Any r/marijuana redditors come across one of these 'Narcotics Interdiction Checkpoint' signs while traveling our nation's highways? Was it a ruse too? (420tribune.com)

As usual the Sheriff's office doesn't know the law or knows the law and doesn't care. The Supreme Court has already determined these types of searches to be illegal.
ABC news story Here
Actual case here
The sheriff's department is clearly violating the rights of any person stopped at this roadblock.

The American citizen has no idea what they've spawned in the form of the modern Sheriff.

I just had a great idea...I'm going to get one of these signs and then wait for guys to throw the drugs out the window and go gather them up and keep them for myself!

This happened to me in Maine when I was around 21. I was heading towards Bangor from the north on I95. They had four officers literally standing on the interstate and stopping each individual vehicle. Apparently if you looked "suspicious" the officers would direct you to an off ramp where there was literally a dozen police officers and several K9 sniffer dogs.
Apparently I looked like the criminal type and was ordered onto the off ramp. Once there my car was searched by two very arrogant officers, one with a K9 while I was asked to empty my pockets and was patted down by another.
I felt as if all my rights had been completely trampled on because I had not broken any laws. I let them know exactly how I felt and was quickly told to keep quiet and cooperate or suffer further embarrassments.
At this point I was incredibly angry but decided my best course of action was to just keep quiet and suffer through the BS. One of the officers made an offhand remark that he had seen my type before and that they would surely find something in my car. He had such a large smirk on his face I wished for nothing more than to be able to remove it for him. I knew better.
I knew they would find nothing and instead of feeling distressed or angry I began to feel amused. Here were three officers wasting tax payer dollars to try and bust me for something based on nothing but my outward appearance. I began to smile. They didn't appreciate my demeanor very much after this point but they could do nothing. After nearly an hour of this crap with much chagrin they decided I was clean and let me go. One of the officers (the smirker) said "well looks like you got lucky this time". To which I replied "Guess so, I need to go burn one now to calm down". He looked at me with nothing but disgust and ill will in his eyes as put on my seatbelt laughing and drove away.

Man that really is scary that in America, people have to put up with this. What's happening to our country?
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago
I drove from South Carolina to New York the other day and there was something similar. There were a series of signs saying that they were having a massive DUI crackdown and that there was a roadblock and stuff. I didn't exit anywhere around there so I don't know if they were doing the same thing but I imagine if I'd been driving drunk (I never do) I would have been freaking out.
[–]PeterWiggin 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago
Yes! I've told people for years, and no-one has believed me. They had a cop car sitting on a hill on I-35 with a sign, and then 5 cop cars at the exit right before it. I couldn't believe it was legal, and was only 12 or so when I saw it.

On a solo cross country trip I was packing mad bowls during the drive and sure enough in Missouri I came across this sign and nearly shit a brick. Just saw a few extra cops on the side of the highway and kept going right on through.

This is not constitutional in any way, shape or form.

gotta keep the price high
[–]roboticpressure 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago
and the cops gotta keep their easy free access too.

What a fucking waste of taxpayer resources. I'd like to find the fat backwater sheriff that dreams this shit up and beat the fucking snot out of him.
[–]MistaBig 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago
that's so fucking dirty. I hope their genitals rot off with syphilis.

Face cancer is better. With face cancer, they're disfigured and can't hide their suffering, so everyone gets to enjoy it!

Weird, I'm from Louisiana and I've never seen this. Of course, I don't cross the LA/TX border every day.
[–]tttruckit 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago
I'm in LA too and I have actually been stopped at a checkpoint in baton rouge. someone in a comment higher up said that they would never stop all the cars on the interstate but that is exactly what they were doing. they were on the interstate AND the exit. They radioed in that I crossed two lanes to exit before the checkpoint (I did as my boyfriend of the time and I were tokin on a philly blunt which we promptly threw out the window). Long story short, they tore up my car, played good cop bad cop with me and my bf, eventually found nothing but some seeds on the floor and told us to "get out of my fucking sight." which we did. Probably one of the scariest moments in my 16-year old life. this was about 12 years ago, mind you.

I wonder if that can be considered entrapment? What if someone happened to live off that interstate exit and they had some weed on them? Could you technically not be charged because the sign clearly states narcotics, and we all know Mj is not a narcotic and even the FDA classifies it as a non-narcotic. Something fishy is going on here...
Hell yes it's entrapment, it's a big trap that plays with your mind.

When I was in Nags Head, NC they set up a fake check point on the main road and set up real check points on the beach road. I read about it in the newspaper the next day.
[–]infinityprime 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago
I saw this in Mississippi a few years back. I told my roommate that that the local sheriff can not stop all the cars on the interstate as that would take up too much time and slow down interstate commerce. The 1st exit after the sign was the check point.
[–]hedonistic 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago
Yes, they did this in IL along I-55 towards Chicago in central IL. Same type of thing- huge sign warning of drug checkpoint implied to be on the interstate itself, but then the checkpoint was actually on top of an off-ramp a quarter mile up the road at the next exit.
