Thank you for this brand new question that hasn't been discussed to death already. You are truly a fresh and independent voice in this community.

Well for one, pot is one of the most used drugs next to alcohol in the country, law enforcement makes a killing on property seizures for trafficking and what-not.

Why would they make marijuana illegal when the effects are somewhat similar?

They aren't similar, at all.

(i mean like they both impede your decision making and whatnot..)

Have you smoked weed before?

It would make sense to make them both legal for recreational use as alcohol is legal.

Weed wasn't made illegal because of anything but racism and greed

Yes, in fact, i have smoked weed before. and i know the effects aren't similar, but i didn't know how to phrase it. But, you know what I mean, they both are "drugs"

advil is a drug

caffeine is a drug

The simple fact is there is NO reason for cannabis to be illegal.

  • A = C
  • B = C therefore:
  • D != F

The 3rd point has nothing to do with the above two, it was a continuation of

Weed wasn't made illegal because of anything but racism and greed

I guess I didn't understand where you were quoting from, I just saw where you were replying. I didn't mean for it to sound harsh :P

No worries, just trying to explain myself properly and sometimes I fail miserably- my brain jumps around too much.

I didn't see "therefore" in the comment

So you just saw 2 unrelated comments followed by a conclusion?

I didn't see his point to your patronizing counterpoint. Get it?

[–]Phatnoir -1 points0 points ago

Nope. I'd get your snobbish point saying you didn't appreciate my patronizing counterpoint to his semi-point.

They can be similar, if you don't smoke much, and it's a weak strain.

What? How? Make you giggle?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

No, by intoxicating you. Sure, the majority of users just smoke buds or bake brownies, but the envelope is sitting there, waiting to be pushed.

Liquid distillation yields hash oil, crystallization and other refinement methods can yield commercially pure THC. Within a few years of legalization, the substance at hand would be a completely different animal.

It wasn't hard to do for tobacco. Cigarettes aren't filled with tobacco leaf cuttings, but rather a calendared, fibrous paper with additives and binders.

I have smoked (and made) hash oil, it is much much further from the effects of alcohol than bud. hash oil is a pure euphoric high with none of the negative side effects of smoking bud (sedation, etc) at least in my experience.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Hash oil is just an impure precursor in this scenario. It's the downstream refinement that makes things dangerous. Morphine is relatively tame compared to heroin, but heroin is just a highly bioavailable version of morphine.

Please tell me you didn't use any household solvents to make your hash oil, as they often contain trace amounts of benzene. This can give you leukemia.

Incidentally, what about "(i mean like they both impede your decision making and whatnot..)" doesn't sit right with you?

[–]ismokeblunts 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Marijuana in no way shape or form has ever impeded my decision making abilities.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't really doubt you. My experience is drastically different.

[–]ismokeblunts 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Please share your experiences, I am always ready to learn.

I'd say the most weed has influenced my decision making abilities was one time at a concert- smoked approx 4-6g of Jack Flash to my face (4 ppl, half ounce of weed, 14 blunts) and I ended up in a state where I felt like I was dreaming, I felt like I could do anything and that I SHOULD just do whatever I wanted.

Well that sounds pretty enjoyable. I had a similar experience at Bonnarro in, I think, '07.

I'm thinking back to my freshman year in college. I remember me and a few of my buddies were in the same class. We all had a fairly sizable project due the next day, it was a programming course. We went out behind the science building, got stoned, and went on to try and complete the project.

It didn't work. I remember spending an hour staring at the computer screen, trying to concentrate. Borderland's C++ compiler has never made so little sense. I'd work out the individual components of the program, how they should work, but couldn't get beyond that abstract step.

I've had similar problems with calculus and linear algebra.

A few years later (I dropped out of College, I'm back in as a journalism major now) I was working as a roofer. I was working for an astounding stoner. The second day on the job, we all smoked up, and ended up making some pain in the ass mistakes.

That said, I was also ridiculously irresponsible at the time. In an effort to work out the meaning of life (no shit) I spent most of my time stoned, lit up, or drunk. It is remarkable that I never got in an accident at that time, and very lucky that I never killed anyone.

Those are the ones that immediately come to mind. It might sound like it was the collection of substances I was ingesting that caused these mistakes, but these examples are pot only.

[–]ismokeblunts 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Makes sense but I think all of those mistakes could have been avoided by thinking properly, no? Perhaps weed makes it easier to just not think and simply do, sometimes?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No. That's the point. I don't think properly when I'm stoned.

Lets try another angle. You said you once felt like you could and should do anything you wanted, what did you mean by that?

edit: new approach.

Because early marijuana smokers were usually Mexican or African American. Oh yea...and those oh so scary jazz musicians.

Stoners are more violent than drunks.

See how easy that was?

[–]GiantSquidd 1 point2 points ago

The hard part is believing that ridiculous counter-argument. You'd have to be stoned. Like reeeeal stoned.

because alcohol is the oil that lubricates the capitalist machinery, without it, corporations would stop producing at the same rate, the work force would become anxious and depressed, thus obstructing the normal work flow of the consumption gears, required to support the needs of thousands, in a total lack of moral society we live in.
