But this is actually definitively NOT bad comedy. This is brilliant comedy.

I think this is my favorite roast performance.

The other week, I saw an open micer go up who was all gusto (Every third word out of his mouth was "YEAH!"), but his material was way hacky. Every joke crashed, and he'd go "ALL RIGHT!" like immediately after he'd say the punchline and get no laughs.

So as he's completely petering out, he finally just freezes and says "You know, I just moved here to do standup comedy, y'all. I sleep on someone's living room floor." It was such a real and honest moment from a very bullshit comic. I couldn't stop laughing.

Fuck, that sounds like one of the most brutal moments of realization ever.

I also love when people spoof bad comedians.

One of my favorite pieces from one of my favorite movies.

What about Andy Daly as Jerry O'Hearn.

[–]Bthulhu[S] 0 points1 point ago

I actually have a Comedy Death Ray comp with a bit by this character on it. Didn't know it was Andy Daly. Radical.

[http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dJ1yQZLcWSE#t=283s](Reminds me of this.)

Edit: I'm not good at internet. 4:44.

Good parody of "shocking" comedians.

"Any Germans in...? ...NAZIS! I mean, come on!"

[–]Bthulhu[S] 0 points1 point ago

Wow, almost entirely a Lisa Lampenelli impression.

[–]Stephen_Normal -1 points0 points ago

I think that's the point, though, more or less.

Oh no, I know. I hate that bitch. Loved that video though.

I saw a comic once who came on stage after these two comedians just ate it, and he said "Bad comedy is good value. When you go home tonight you won't remember a thing the other comics said, but I guarantee at some point this week you'll stop and think "what the fuck were those two guys even thinking?" and you'll laugh to yourself. That is value for money"

Shucky ducky quack quack!

5 dollar open mic night is sometimes just as fun as a 20 dollar headliner. You are laughing for totally different reasons but it's still a great night out.

I have a friend who's just getting his first tv spots, but he's big shit in my town. He doesn't laugh much at shows, until he starts seeing his friends struggle on stage. Then It makes me laugh hearing him laugh and it's all downhill.

Dude, find your local "standup comedy school". They regularly have free open mics and its usually a train wreck...

I was at an open mic. This 18 year old never left his basement white kid got up on stage for the first time. He started doing black guy impressions. Bill Cosby, Fat Albert. It was so bad, I was peeing myself with laughter.

There's something hilarious about the awkward bomb.

[–]jingerjew 1 point2 points ago

I saw a guy last night who started his set by saying: "I hate it when people die, it's so inconsiderate." All I could think was: "Then stop doing it onstage."

[–]Brentholomew 1 point2 points ago

I love the desperation and strangeness of open mics. I know a lot of people just feel awkward and uncomfortable when someone's dying, as if it was somehow disrespectful to do anything except be silent. I used to agree but, what's the point? I enjoy failure on so many levels. I'm the death laugh at the back of the room. I'm sure there are a few people on stage who have thought, "Well, at least that one guy really likes me!"

[–]tinyandawesome 1 point2 points ago

I love when cocky people bomb and then get mad at the audience. I also like going to open mics where the comics are drunk and you can't understand them, it's the best!

I love all kinds of stand up. I am however, getting tired of angry stand up. So much negativity.

I also get turned off by those same angry comedians claiming because they have shit in their life that, that is how life is. As a fact. But, it isn't.

You usually get out what you put in. Usually. With the amount of vitriol many many modern comics put in their routines. It's no wonder they have shit relationships.

I actually crave a great angry uk stand up.

I'm sick of safe stand ups in the uk - mediocore kids, who take the joke one step too far. I want a comedian who mocks the establishment, and yellls and screeches, with passion.

It's not going to happen, but I really would love it.

[–]240caloriesperbottle -2 points-1 points ago

I guess if it was real passion and real things.

The majority of angry types "mock the establishment" as you say, to be edgy. They complain about hardships they could work through. But then they wouldn't have material would they?

[–]ColumbineCatholic 5 points6 points ago

To me that's "fake-angry" - like Frankie Boyle. Just a regular comedian dressed up in an offensive suit.

Stewart Lee is a good example of what I mean. He's angry, passionate, and genuine. It doesn't have that air of fakeness.
