I decided to take the long way home around the lake. It's a 2 lane road all the way around, with no shoulder. It's a popular cycling spot. I've never seen less than 30 cyclists on any given day. Motorists are generally aware of the cyclist presence and I'm not aware of any automobile-bicycle accidents.

I'm riding along the dam, where there are guardrails on both sides of the road, still no shoulder, basically nowhere to go. I notice this car coming toward me in the opposite lane. She seems to be drifting into my lane. She never corrects her path and is within 1.5ft of me by the time we pass each other. I turn around to flip her off and she barely pulled it back without hitting the guard rail, then continued in the oncoming (my) lane for the remainder of the dam.

I have no idea what was going on with this lady. I couldn't tell if she was on a phone or just not paying attention or what, but I could have ended up in the lake unconscious, or under her car, or who knows where or in what condition.

I guess the lessons to be learned if you don't already know them: don't assume any driver can see you. and sometimes you might be really lucky or really fucked, depending. Today was a lucky day for me. I'm happy to be able to type this post. Please be safe and pay attention out there.
