The Usual Suspects. All hail Keyser Soze.

Upvote. If you have to ask why, you will never understand.

[–]nymusix 7 points8 points ago

...Or they just haven't seen the movie, in which case they will understand promptly upon viewing.

[–]jaybyrd570 25 points26 points ago

Se7en. The asshole teaches on hard lesson.

[–]NorCalSamurai 4 points5 points ago

Add in Spacey's powerhouse performance, and you've got one of the best film villains of recent years.

[–]girafa 3 points4 points ago

in three years this movie will be two decades old. creeps me out thinking about that.

[–]NicholasThunderchild[S] 1 point2 points ago

I've been meaning to watch this for such a long time. Thanks for the reminder!

[–]thornae 0 points1 point ago

Do it, you won't regret it. Probably the best modern noir film ever made.

[–]ManFromViltrum 12 points13 points ago

Memento. Leonard Shelby.

The Vanishing (1988). One of the most chilling scenarios and endings ever.

Primal Fear. Edward Norton's character

[–]PSUProud -1 points0 points ago

See I don't think Leomard was a villain. You never know the truth. Teddy is the villain in my opinion but my view changes each viewing.

[–]Xaeldaren 14 points15 points ago

Watchmen.

...or does he?

[–]lowkeyoh 0 points1 point ago

Spoiler alert. He does

[–]Xaeldaren 1 point2 points ago

Seymour.

Any Tyler Perry movie, the audience always loses that fight

One of my favorite movies.

"..." -Glances at son- -son gives look of approval- "... I'd buy him his first pack."

[–]ZookGuy 9 points10 points ago

To add to what's previously been mentioned, A Clockwork Orange

[–]beatlemaniac47 7 points8 points ago

Came here to say this.

Kubrick's decision to exclude the last chapter of the book just makes the movie that more ambiguous.

[–]jaybyrd570 4 points5 points ago

The version printed in America was originally released without the last chapter, to Burgess's dismay

[–]HornyVervet 0 points1 point ago

The copy I read in the last few years had included it with a note that it wasn't originally included. I prefer the book without the end chapter.

Major League. The Indians should have won it all

[–]mastershake04 9 points10 points ago

Zodiac would be a good example, especially since the guy never got caught IRL either.

The lamia in Drag Me to Hell.

[–]memeofconsciousness 2 points3 points ago

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.

Sherlock Holmes 2

I was surprised at how awesome Professor Moriarty was, he was kind of successful in half of his plan.

I had low expectations for the movie and it ended up being really entertaining.

[–]williamspensfan 2 points3 points ago

I just saw this, this past weekend. The whole woods chase scene near the end of the movie was amazing.

[–]fizziebob 1 point2 points ago

God I swear Guy Ritchie is amazing, more Americans need to know him. I thought he'd just pull a half-assed summer blockbuster, but he kept strongly with his style. Even better than the first I think.

[–]ravniel 6 points7 points ago

How many Americans who know the first thing about film don't know Guy Ritchie? Snatch and Lock, Stock were both very widely seen, and the first Sherlock Holmes was huge.

[–]username_redacted 1 point2 points ago

Have you seen the BBC series Sherlock? It's awesome.

[–]fizziebob 1 point2 points ago

I've heard good things, I feel like getting a good dose of Benedict Cumberbatch before The Hobbit comes out

[–]LauraBoBaura 2 points3 points ago

Natural Born Killers

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest

Fight Club

[–]dejerik 0 points1 point ago

While I absolutely love Cuckoo's I really wish that the chief would have smothered the shit out of Nurse Racthett as well on his way out.

[–]heathengray 0 points1 point ago

The part that gets me every time is McMurphy's chance to escape. And he just looses it to strangle Ratchet

Crimes and Misdemeanors, written and directed by Woody Allen

[–]Superfly_Pusherman 1 point2 points ago

Il Grande Silenzio by Sergio Corbucci. All hail to Klaus Kinski

[–]mcarter530 1 point2 points ago

Watched this movie with my girlfriend who likes happy ever after endings. She said this ending "made her feel like someone took a dump on her chest and then blamed her for getting a stain on their carpet." Still confused by that statement.

[–]yyx9 1 point2 points ago

Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. He doesn't get away entirely clean, but when the movie ends he's still alive.

[–]scienide 1 point2 points ago

The Vanishing

one of my favourite films ever. The Hollywood version is truly awful however.

[–]thornae 1 point2 points ago

Arlington Road. That one stayed with me for a long time. Well made, but bleak.

Others: The Wicker Man (original, not the shit remake) The Omen, and Brazil, of course.

[–]Phandango92 1 point2 points ago

the Funny Games remake

realistic horror/so terrifying

[–]frostwyrm99 1 point2 points ago

Mr. Brooks

[–]dejerik 1 point2 points ago

This is a movie that surprised me with how good it was. My roommate in college made me watch it and I went in the most skeptical and came out the most pleased. The scene when Dane Cook goes to shoot him and he just looks up after the gun misfires is one of my favorite moments.

[–]frostwyrm99 0 points1 point ago

I have always thought that it set itself up really well for a sequel...the way the cop is still after him in the end, and his daughter having the itch.

[–]Spacecase29 1 point2 points ago

Rampage. It's on netflix now.

[–]jordanderson 1 point2 points ago

Really great example of the topic. I was surprised by that movie.

[–]cinesav 1 point2 points ago

Salò (120 Days of Sodom ) by Pasolini. Nazis dancing around cause they ain't got nobody left to torture.
