Jax Cafe in NE. its classy as fuck and its been there for 80+ years. I cannot recommend this place enough it is absolutely my favorite place in the city when I am in need of a classy joint.

This! Plus make a reservation and they'll gold emboss her name on a matchbook for her seat.

Jax was my parents' restaurant of choice. Of course they never took me, but my mother was head over heels for it.

my mom always tells me about when her parents took her there for her golden birthday and let her get the lobster. its absolutely my favorite place to go for a nice night out

Manny's is the way to go.

I know you mentioned it, but it still blows the others away.

Mancini's is old school steakhouse St Paul. Jax Cafe in NE is pretty good as well.

The lounge at Mancini's is the best. Plus, the food is great for a lower price than a similar meal in Mpls.

[–]tappytibbonsLowertown 1 point2 points ago

I whole heartily third Mancini's.

Mancinis is a long time family favorite here. About as classic of a steakhouse as you can get around here. Big thumbs up!

Have you done Lindy's?

[–]igacekNortheast 7 points8 points ago

Fogo De Chao.

[–]drnickmdEden Prairie 1 point2 points ago

I came in here to say Foga De Chao also. If you haven't been there yet it is totally worth it.

[–]Thisoldgymrat 0 points1 point ago

yep, pricey but good

[–]JohnnyWeaponBloomington 0 points1 point ago

If you can make it for lunch, it's significantly cheaper.

What I had when I went there wasn't steak. It may be the same cuts of meat even but it's not a "steak" in the sense that I can get it blue rare if I want it that way. Everything was also way too salty.

[–]AwesoMeme[S] 1 point2 points ago

Salty was what we said when we left too. I mean it was good and I love the original idea. We just weren't sure we'd go back.

[–]Foxtrot56 1 point2 points ago

Is it just a slice-the-meat-off-this-hunk-of-meat place?

[–]detective365East Harriet 0 points1 point ago

Yes, very much so.

[–]mobilehypoEast Snokomis 0 points1 point ago

You really can't beat Fogo. It's all cook perfectly, terribly yummy, and has every cut you could want.

[–]cleric04Cedar-Isles-Dean 0 points1 point ago

Fogo is good but I hate that the menu never changes so at most I'm willing to go there once a year.

Question: When you make your own steaks, where do your buy your meat? Because if the answer isn't Widmer's, then you're doing it wrong.

[–]Revertit 0 points1 point ago

I've had really good luck with the meat at Costco.

[–]ImStillAwesome 0 points1 point ago

BLASPHEMER! But yeah, Sam's Club and Costco is actually pretty good for the price.

[–]dahlberg123Plymouth 2 points3 points ago

Everyone seems to be saying Mancini's but I would disagree. Mancini's oozes nothing more than nostalgia; it's dated decor, mediocre food and hit or miss service drops it out of the top 10.

[–]Elrode 2 points3 points ago

Costco in Saint Louis Park.

[–]wise_comment 0 points1 point ago

All good suggestions but Seven might be best (also, it's great because if she likes sushi, it's quality and available. Also also, the drinks)

[–]DaveAF 2 points3 points ago

Cook the best steak she has ever had.

[–]AwesoMeme[S] 2 points3 points ago

We do that all summer. I'm an old school charcoal kind of griller and I hate doing that in the winter. Takes all the fun out of it.

Thanks... now I want steak and miss summer. ;-)

[–]sausagekingofchicago 1 point2 points ago

Mancini's is very good. I'm partial to Fogo de Chao...an unlimited variety of steak?!? OK!!!!

[–]daleholly 1 point2 points ago

http://www.domeats.com/ A smaller joint in saint Paul, awesome service, great ambiance and very good food.

[–]DiscordianStoogeFridley 0 points1 point ago

I know a server there, but I've never been. It's my next choice for an expensive dinner.

[–]proggieus -1 points0 points ago

Mancinis- End of Discussion. I have had steak at most of the famous steakhouses in the country and while i have had a better steak there is not a single place that i felt the difference was worth the price difference or that i would go back to over Mancinis.

Then again Mancinis is where i found my love for steak.

[–]un_internauteWhittier 1 point2 points ago

The Strip Club Meat and Fish in St. Paul is where I go in the cities for a non chain restaurant steak, e.g. Ruth's Chris. It's all local grass Thousand Hills meat as well.

[–]DawnbreakaLowertown 1 point2 points ago

St. Paul Grill. Classy as all get up.

[–]jdom22 1 point2 points ago

ruths chris, mannys the only 2 places i've been where my steak was memorable (for good reasons anyway)
