I didn't buy today because they did the same thing with 1943, Bad Company 2, and Medal of Honor. I had a feeling it was a trend that would repeat.

They always give some bullshit line like, "we had no idea the game would be so popular!". I'll buy it when it drops to $40 on amazon I'm a couple weeks.

Here's my beef with EA. And as far as anyone coming with the whole "Well, this happens at every launch, bla bla bla", go suck a fat one!

From the beginning, EA insists on hosting their own servers rather than using Xbox live resources. They do this for their own marketing and business demands. They fought Microsoft on this and Microsoft gave in, but look where it got us?

EA is notorious for having online problems and despite having 'tested' the workload, they did not have a god damn clue as to how many server resources would be needed for a smooth launch. How many times have they been making online games? Some dipshit wanted to maximize profit and dedicate as little hardware resources as they could. And look what happens.

Also, when I actually got SOMEWHAT of a connection, I was greeted by a code to allow for playing online. Granted, they included a code in the box with the game, but I see this for what it is. Imagine if you wanted to sell or loan this game to someone else? Yea, good luck to the new buyer on enjoying everything multiplayer has to offer.

I've been home since 5. Total gametime so far actually playing? 5 fucking minutes!!!! And even that was greeted by a server disconnect. Game looks good but what's the use of that when you can't play it?

But don't EA use dedicated servers whereas XBL provide P2P services? Granted launch day usually takes its toll and matchmaking isn't as robust as XBL but at least it ensures everyone is playing on dedicated servers.

I really hate the bullshit online access code. Seriously, who the fuck decided that idea?

EA is aware, apparently.

I knew this would be on reddit. Thank you guys for allowing me to know there are many others who have a big collective "fuck you" to send to EA for this one.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The only ones who would be saying "fuck you" to this would be people who already bought the game, and thats not much a fuck you to a company

They were back up, and appear to be down again -_-

The servers going down meant that my co-op campaign mission was ended :| In fairness though, there're tons and tons of people playing.

Xbox Live has an alert saying there are connection issues with various EA titles online play.

At least you own the game on 360. I have to wait at least 8 hours and that's if I go to the midnight release.

This happens every time a shooter comes out. You weren't expecting it? Things will be fine in a day or two.

When people are suddenly anonymous they're irrational loudmouthed idiots.

[–]pntless -1 points0 points ago

And yet the sheer idiocy and incompetence of executives at software production companies in refusing to allow proper network infrastructure to be in place continues to amaze, but never surprise.

[–]blahPerson -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Can you explain on a technical level how the network infrastructure is unproper?

So, you have to be online to play ANY of BF3? Even the single player?

Single player is good to go, just not co-op or multiplayer

[–]snagglefoof 0 points1 point ago

I don't have the game yet, but I'd like to know something:

If I am playing single player on my 360, do I have to be connected to EA's servers?

(I know they force the connection for other PC games, was wondering if it's extended to consoles yet...)

[–]Sneeches 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

nope there is NO always on DRM for this game, so with the servers down you can play single player.. that's what I did last night to pass the time.

[–]snagglefoof 0 points1 point ago

Well that's a relief, thanks.

Welcome to every Dice game on release day

[–]yourHIVpositive -1 points0 points ago

This happens every time DICE releases a game. Their servers either crash or lag the fuck out.

[–]thepensivepoet -2 points-1 points ago

Man I'm glad I slowly got out of hardcore gaming. Must suck to get this worked up over a game release and to have your inability to play a video game completely ruin your day.

[–]crunknizzle[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

haha it didnt ruin my day. I just made the okay face and moved on
