She's awesome and I like her, but there's a huge barrier in the way and I'm trying to take it down.

I was raised super christian and was taught say no to drugs and say no to people who do drugs. Well now I've grown up and learned that there is a difference between something that is illegal and immoral. I believe that weed is not immoral and is ok by me.

However my brainwashing parents are keeping me from fully realizing this view. I still find myself judging those who smoke, and looking down upon them. I don't want to. I want to not judge. I guess my situation is similar to a racist trying to not be racist anymore.

EDIT: a lot of you are suggesting that I try it. Well I did try it, and I almost lost my job because of it.

EDIT: Thank you all for your advice, I just watched 'Super High Me' and that's helped a fair bit.

About my job? I'm currently a college student (mechanical engineering) and I was offered a job working for the civilian division of the navy upon my graduation. My starting date, somewhere in July. During the security clearance questionaire they asked if you had used any drugs illegally in the last year. I said yes I had and wrote down the date, because I'm honest. I got a call from them the next day saying that I couldn't work there because of that. I asked them that since I said that the incident was in August, if I could start in September; a year would have passed. And they gave me the go ahead.

It was really scary for me. There's about 20 people in my program graduating, and only about 6 of us have jobs lined up. Being offered a job was a miracle. Trying to find another one this late in the game would be near impossible. The one time I smoked it was fun, but I can't do it at the expense of my career.

We met recently at a local bar. Things have gone rather well since. She has some things that she struggles with, but was quick to let me know these struggles. She recently has been fighting an alcohol addiction (and in my opinion, kicking its ass) for two months alcohol free. We have many things in common and I'm quite smitten. Today worries me though. We slept together for the first time after two weeks. And immediately after, she got very distant. I asked her what was wrong with no answer for a little while then she told me she's bipolar and has anxiety issues, and that she didn't feel comfortable staying the night. I told her i wouldn't be offended if she left and that I don't fully understand, but I'd hope to see her again. If she doesn't show up again, I can handle that. But I like this girl.I want her to still k around. Her mental issues are not a problem for me. I just don't want this to end because I don't have the knowledge of the different types and habits of bipolar disorder.

This is the first time I'm stepping out and trying to meet girls. So I signed up for OKCupid and PlentyOfFish to see what would happen.

At first, just lots and lots of guys. Which I didn't want, because I just left a relationship with an amazing guy of 3 years. I didn't need another man in my life. I finally needed to discover my sexuality, and embrace the part of myself that is also very attracted to women as well as men.

So I started talking to girls. I hate saying this, but I have to be attracted to someone to consider being intimate with them. I'm not saying I'm looking for the Heidi Klums of the world, but there are some girls that I am very physically attracted to, and some who I'm not. And I talked to a lot of girls who I just couldn't see in a sexual manner, even though they had great personalities. And to have a good sexual connection in a relationship has always been important to me.

And then she messaged me. She was cute as could possibly be, and was generally interested in getting to know me. And the more I talked to her, the more I wanted to get to know her, too.

And we haven't stopped talking. Movies, food, jobs, friends, music, memories, everything. And we finally admitted how interested we are in each other, and want to get rid of the "virtual" aspect of it and start seeing each other.

And I'm excited that I found a girl that I really 'click' with. And it seems like she feels the same way.

I don't know if she's a redditor or not, so I'm going for the throwaway.

I feel like a twelve year old idiot, more or less. It's a confusing thing.

But, I was playing League of Legends one night, and ended up laning with a chick. Obviously doubting females on the internet, I sent her my facebook, and we talked for a while on there. She ended up being my age, within a month, and a student up north in Ohio. I live in Florida. She texted me one night, out of the blue, about a week later, and we've pretty much been talking all the time ever since.

That was three? weeks ago or so? She's a really cute chick, and we share way more common interests than I think I have with anyone else. She's remarked on it too, we just kinda clicked. We normally talk on the phone for an hour or two a night.

I've invited her down, to come stay a week, because we obviously want to meet. I live on my own, and work full time, so that kinda became the default option. Even the price on the ticket to get here isn't a problem, we'll just split it 50/50.

The issue is how to introduce this to our parents. She still lives with her mother, who would probably reject the whole idea.

Anybody have any experience in this kinda thing? We're both stumped.

So here's the deal. I met this gal a few weeks ago, and we've been dating for a while, and last night she told me she smokes about once a week or so, and asked me if it's a problem.

I don't have any problems with anyone smoking weed, I actually support the legalization on the grounds of personal freedom. The thing is, I'm from Finland, and I don't know anyone who smokes, and I've never seen anyone do it IRL. Haven't even seen anyone who's high.

Do you think there would be a problem? Should I try it, as I am quite curious? How would one get in touch with a reliable person selling? Anything else that comes in mind? Tips, hints, thoughts? Feel free to contribute.

Also, yes, I do drink, and I'm 20.

I appreciate any help or thoughts you guys have. Thank you in advance.

EDIT: After reading the replies so far, I'm really positively surprised how nice a crowd it's here, and it's actually giving me a bit more confidence in trying it out, if you people are the kind of people who get high. :D Also, I'd like to clarify, there isn't as big amount of people who do smoke in Finland, I think it's a culture thing. We just like to get drunk off our asses instead of high.

My Boyfriend Smokes Weed, and I don't...

I am all for the legalization of Marijuana; however, from a personal standpoint, I don't like it. Regardless of that, here's my question:

My boyfriend and the people around him habitually smoke... and they hardly do anything else; they are stagnant in their employment -- (not moving up or advancing and not wanting to), and they just seem to be overall dead beats. I have a few friends who smoke, who also exhibit these same tendencies (although not as extreme). To be fair, I also absolutely know people who are not smoking weed and who are just lazy. I realize that the door swings both ways. However, I can't help but wonder if this group of people, my boyfriend included, would/could actually do more if they put the bowl down and got off the couch.

That's my primary gripe against Marijuana... and it's very possible that the whole stagnant/lazy thing is more personality than weed... but I'm not totally sure. It seems like weed just brings it out in them, which is annoying. And with this group, it's a definite lifestyle (rather than a phase or an occasional thing)...which makes me wonder...

Fellow redditors,

I met this girl in dc when we were both waiting for train to chicago. We instantaneously hit out well and got adjacent seats on the train. We chatted a lot, had food on the train together. Showed each other pictures on our phone. Even saw part of a movie together before going to sleep. Next day we got down in chicago at 8 in the morning. My train to texas was at 2 and her to Kansas was at 3. We went and had an absolute blast in the 6 odd hours that we had together. We talked a lot, took pictures together holding each other really close, we ran in the rain, had fun on the escalator, we even fed a squirrel together, basically the little things... We held hands pretty much the whole time in Chicago. she was very comfortable with it and not at all reluctant. Then we had a quick lunch for which of course I paid. Then in the station she waited with me in the line and gave me a really right and long hug , which felt just great. I kissed her on the cheek. It was all great and she said the same thing at least 3-4 times and I felt sad as I was walking away. Now the problem- she has a boy friend. Of course she lives in N Carolina and I live in Texas that's another problem. But I like her a lot and I do not know what to do because she already has a boy friend. I just don't know if I should give up or I should keep in touch with her and hope that there might be a chance in the future. I would appreciate any comments/suggestions/tips. Thanks!

We had a serious discussion earlier this afternoon and ended in her packing her bags and going to her friends place. It stayed very amicable, we hugged before she left.

29M and 26F. We've been together about 5 years living together for about 3. There's been an elephant in the room for a couple of years now and it basically comes down to children and to a lesser extent getting married. In the past when the subject has come up I've told her I don't want either right now but I'm not saying never, just not now.

It seems as though her patience has finally run out (although it was a bit out of the blue). She said that this key difference in what we want out of the relationship/life is too different and that she thinks it best if we end it now. I felt absolutely devastated after she left but as bad as I felt, I still couldn't shake off the mass of doubt that surrounds the area. I nearly chased after her and said that I'd do it, but I simply couldn't. Mostly because I didn't want to say it unless I really meant it.

I'm now feeling very torn. Is it just that I don't want to have kids with her; in which case it is probably best we end it. Or am I just having general male doubts about finally settling down?
