Me reading the back story of Diablo 3 by robuttsin gaming

[–]BeastofChicken 2 points3 points ago

Blizzard North was dissolved 3 years before Activision came along. And they did it themselves... 30 key devs left after Diabo 2 lod was released, and then vivendi pulled the last switch when diablo 3 wasn't looking so hot.

Silverbacks can lift 2 tons over their head, and can deadlift 1 ton. That's what animal planet says anyways. Also, UFC fighters aren't powerlifters, so they don't have that going for them. The gorillas would most likely just tear off their arms and heads.

It does sound a little weird... if my spouse had a lot of money I wouldn't work some crappy job, I'd do what I wanted to do. But ah well. You could be right, just saying its not that unheard of for artists having to bribe galleries to get in.

TIL that our 8 hour sleeping pattern is wrong and that cultures have been sleeping in two 4 hour sessions for thousands of years by krilesin todayilearned

[–]BeastofChicken 0 points1 point ago

Mostly just wanting to sleep more. There were a few times when I was still adjusting where I would walk across the room and turn off the alarm, hop back in bed and not even realize it. When I finally adjusted (took about a month) I felt awesome for a few hours after I napped, and then I would start getting really, really tired about an hour before my next nap. It took a lot of will power to not go to bed before my scheduled time. If I did go to bed before my scheduled time, it would throw it all off for the day. I would say about month 3 or 4, I finally got the hang of it and had no problems. At the six month mark, I started working 12 hour shifts and it just killed it. I tried taking naps during my breaks but it just didn't happen because they were too irregular.

I'm working from home now though, so its pretty tempting to try the uberman just to see if I could pull it off.

Interesting, yeah I tried Everyman a few years ago for about 6 months or so. It was good, and then work got in the way of keeping it up. I found the extra time really nice, but it was a struggle to keep it going. I was able to work and go to school without many problems, and I liked being able to get so much done. Sometimes I'd oversleep on a nap, and it'd mess up the whole day though. I was always worrying if I was causing long term damage or something. I've been contemplating trying it out again, but just haven't.

The Uberman would be really interesting to try, at least to see if I could do it. Sounds tough though... the naps just seem so short.

What do you think about polyphasic sleep schedules like the uberman, dimaxion and everyman?

I make very good money and we really have no need for her alternate income.

Point 3 is wrong. She didn't need to work, she just did.

Also, this kind of thing happens a lot in the art world. It's really not that crazy.

Should I break it to my missionary BFF that I'm not "keeping the commandments?" by recherchedutempsin exmormon

[–]BeastofChicken 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't go to hard on her. She, and every other missionary out there, are being brainwashed into believing a certain way. After a while out there, for the most part, you begin to look at the world with a little more judgement. You get taught how to preach to people about what they should/shouldn't be doing. You slowly get the sense that you are in the position, and have the authority to tell people how to live their lives.

If this was me, I'd keep things friendly, and not too confrontational. She'll feel even more justified for trying to put you in your place if you fight back. Wait until she gets back, when she's in a more normal situation and environment to talk to her about the difficult stuff. You have to realize she lives/eats/breaths/sleeps with the church right now, reason and logic is shot out the window for 18 months.

Amazing looking indie RPG somehow gets overlooked on Kickstarter by verdendain gaming

[–]BeastofChicken 0 points1 point ago

There's a reason really. I'm trying not to come off harsh, but it is what it is. I think they could probably make a good game, but its the wrong time to look for help with Kickstarter, and with asking for 300k. They might have done it, if they were looking for less, but really it's hard enough to make a game with only 300k to begin with. A few things that put up the red flags for me.

  1. They advertise "new" tech allowing them to display cell shaded art in a 3d environment in one of their videos. All they are doing is making simple 3d shapes and texturing them accordingly. Many of the objects in the tech demo are flat planes that have been painted on. This is nothing new. At all. I'm a 3D artist, this is fairly obvious at first glance for me. Plus they are using Unity3d, which I work with regularly. When I see this, I see deceit.
  2. They are using the Aurora Toolset to make their areas. This might be good (or bad imo) for concept work, but you can't say you have 200 areas built for your game, when you haven't even done the work to make them. You are in the concept stage, that is all. Using the Aurora Toolset tells me they don't know what they are doing.
  3. They say they don't have the graphics done, and that they can't show a working demo of the game. Show me what you are using then to help you script combat, dialogue, questing, ai, etc. I want to see the whitebox version of your game to see if the game works. This tells me that they don't have a game, but a concept for a game. This is a key part of pitching a game idea if you can't make graphics. Build everything out of blocks, then show us how it plays.

I'm leary when I see projects like these that spell out a myriad of features for the game, and talk about how great it is, but can't show us how it works. They aren't just missing the graphics in the game. They are missing level design, gameplay, programming, everything, and I think it's fairly obvious. I may just be demanding, but they are asking for our money for an investment. Hiding anything won't really help drive people put money down.

That all being said, I think the idea is cool. I do think they could make a good game, but until they show us something that tells me they are on the right track, I can't put any money down.

Actually I never said anything about wanting you to post negatively. All I want to see, and what others probably want to see, is interaction. When people are giving you downvotes, it isn't because of what you are posting, nor is it your beliefs. It's the complete lack of conversation on your part. Whether or not people ask you questions, you seem to be giving the impression that you didn't read their comments, when you just say "Thanks for replying/reading." Especially when earlier in this thread, 4blockhead wrote a huge reply to your post, and you barely responded. You defend your grammar, but I never even complained about it.

Questions about Mormon cosmology. by astrob0Iin exmormon

[–]BeastofChicken 0 points1 point ago

The qualifiers to get into the different levels of heaven are fairly simple, and it's all laid out in the D&C, and some further insight has been given from some talks here and there.

Basically: Celestial Kingdom: Comprised of 3 levels. Highest level is exaltation and godhood. At the top level, you become a god, and can father spirit children and create your own worlds, and continue the endless cycle. You have to be married, have done your temple ordinances, and have had to be a faithful member of the church, either that or a good person on earth and had the temple work done for you while you were dead. The lower level of the celestial kingdom is for people that did everything except get married, they will serve as servants to god. (Think of a Eunuch in a harem.) Not much is known about the middle level. People that are in this kingdom, live with God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost.

Terrestrial Kingom: This place is reserved for all the decent people of earth that never accepted the gospel in this life, or the next. Or had a chance to accept it on earth, and then later did when they were dead. It's all sort of a gray area, but in general just good people are here that didn't do everything that was needed to get into the Celestial Kingdom. It really resembles the mainstream christian view of heaven, and its probably where Smith got the idea from. People in this Kingdom will be visited by Jesus on occasion. People in the Celestial kingdom can visit people that are here.

Telestial Kingdom: A made up word from Smith. This place holds everyone that was bad in life, and rejected the gospel. This includes murderers, adulterers, etc. People like Hitler are here. It's not hell, and in fact is a kingdom of glory like the others. It's basically a 'good job, you made it through life' place. Only the Holy Ghost will administer to these people. It was said from Smith, that if anyone on earth could see this kingdom, they would kill themselves and their family to go there, (but not him obviously, since he's so awesome.)

Outer Darkness: The place for really bad people, the worst of the worst! <sarcasm>. Hitler, not being one of them I guess. To get here, you had to have received the gospel and accepted it, entered into the New and Everlasting Covenant (temple marriage) and then deny the holy ghost by killing someone. It's all laid out in the D&C as well. Some people will say that to get here, you had to have a perfect knowledge of Christ, and then deny the holy ghost's existence, but that doesn't stand up to scrutiny in the scriptures. This isn't a kingdom of glory, but rather hell. You never get to see god again, and you're pretty much screwed. The church teaches that very very few people actually end up here. One such person is Cain who murdered Abel. You get to spend eternity with the devil and his angels that were cast out in the pre-existence.

D&C 132:27 The blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, which shall not be forgiven in the world nor out of the world, is in that ye commit murder wherein ye shed innocent blood, and assent unto my death, after ye have received my new and everlasting covenant, saith the Lord God; and he that abideth not this law can in nowise enter into my glory, but shall be damned, saith the Lord.

Also, wanted to clarify something. In another comment, you referred to God as coming down as his own son or something like that. Mormons don't believe in the trinity like mainstream Christianity. They deny the Nicene Creed. Jesus to them, is a completely different person from God. He is in their view, the firstborn spirit child of god (we are all gods spirit babies). God also had sex with Mary, and then became Jesus's physical father as well (why they say Only Begotten Son). They don't like to go into detail about this, but that's the reason why they never refer to her as Virgin Mary. In speculation, and what mormons refer to as deep doctrine, Mormons, once they attain Godhood, will also send down their own Savior to their own worlds. Many think this, others deny it, so you have to take it with a grain of salt.

How can I get the LDS church to stop contacting me without having a conference with the bishop? by itsme_timdin exmormon

[–]BeastofChicken 0 points1 point ago

Unfortunately with these people, you have to be very assertive, and sometimes rude if they don't get the hint. The will overstep their boundaries any chance they get, and they don't understand the idea of leaving someone alone.

Best bet is to send in the resignation letter that's been suggested. The church will send you a letter telling you it's a local ecclesiastical matter, and will tell you that the local bishop will contact you. Once that happens, send another letter threatening to sue if they dont just take you off. It will get the job done.
