TV-B-Gone: Its inventor has referred to it as "an environmental management device" by blankblankin wikipedia

[–]Conlaeb 2 points3 points ago

When you say "the owner can easily block the IR port" keep in mind that many commercial venues have integrated control systems that, lacking a RS232 or 3.5mm IR encoded jack depend entirely on that IR port for centralized control. Many, many businesses especially restaurants don't go to the commercial models that include anything beyond the standard front-facing IR port.

My father used to take me to the CEC in the area semi-regularly, we once spent my entire year's piggy bank beating TMNT (my idea.) He loved the old pitching game where you threw into a catcher's mitt and it gave you the speed. Old man had a pretty nice arm, saw him break 95 regularly. Anyhow, game once broke down as he was playing AND SPIT OUT ITS ENTIRE TICKET ROLL. This sucker was full, my father folded it into a perfect brick just like you guys stacked them into the machine. MOTHERFUCKER TURNED THE TICKETS IN. SAID WE DIDN'T WIN THEM. WHAT THE HELL. Anyhow, what I wanted to say is that while I am happy you are able to be happily cynical about your time spent at that job, just know that there are a few of us out there who you and your coworkers directly worked to provide most excellent childhood memories to. Thanks :-)

I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing, if condolences from a stranger are of any benefit to you please know that you have mine. Sorrow aside however, that is a truly fantastic story. Thanks for sharing.

This has been fantastic for me. Combined with this I never change battery and only switch carto when I want another flavor. Easy to refill, lasts all day.

They could do a Kickstarter where $20 gets you a voucher for a ticket, or $50 gets you a direct to DVD copy or something.

No, because people felt it was profiteering from 9/11, being unable to properly cognate that the originating work had been written half a century beforehand.

Hologram Silverbullet w/ Dual Coil Tank by ppandemicin electronic_cigarette

Thanks, I didn't realize that the mods provided days of battery life. The Silver Bullet would probably be my choice if I got a mod, though. Happy vaping.

[–]Conlaeb 1 point2 points ago

Yeah plus they have a few different resistances available which is very useful. I am using a similar tank/carto setup on a smaller battery, really enjoying it. Became my full-time setup from the moment I got it, haven't gone back to a regular carto since. Too bad, since I have a drawer full of them! More tanks and tank cartos on the way though.

I have been using dual coal tank systems for a while now and have also been considering going into a battery mod. I am using 1100mAh eGo USB rechargeable batteries which are really convenient. Do you use your mod at standard or high voltage? Is it worth the high cost of the unit and the hassle of charging the batteries for its increased charge life? Thanks.

I do IT Contracting so I get to do work in a lot of the buildings that are still maintained by huge companies. When I see the masonry, mosaics, tile-work, and just general craft involved it truly breaks my heart because I know there are but a few of these buildings surviving, and many more being torn apart by scavengers. My other comments describe my method for coping with that. I would love to work downtown full-time some day. Do you commute 75 or 94/96?

Again, this technique does little to assuage my visceral feelings on the matter, but intellectually I console myself with something along the following lines: As much as we desire to experience these artifacts firsthand that have been destroyed perhaps recently or as far back to be considered historical acts themselves, to do so would present an untrue version of history. Those mummies that were destroyed were done so because of the realities in Egypt at the time. Thus, the act of destruction is part of our true historical record. When looked at in the future it will help historians to understand the state of Egypt when they took place. It will let future generations know that at this point in history we hadn't yet developed an intrinsic cultural respect for artifacts deep enough to shield them from petty elements of society. Without the ability to make that comparison, our descendants would have an imperfect record. It's not much, but it helps keep me sane.

Detroit. I am in the suburbs now and trying to close on a home even farther out due to commuting necessities. Like many metro-Detroiters I am torn between the desire to move downtown and be a positive force in the revival and the necessity to move forward with a practical life.

I live in a decaying metropolis where materials theft, often from historical structures, occurs every day. I try not to pass judgement, part of me accepts so easily that people are driven to it by necessity. Despite my attempts however, I agree with you entirely. There are always other ways, theft and vandalism of abandoned properties are crimes for a reason.

As someone who enjoys all things historical I certainly share your sentiments about people tearing into old constructions for materials. As a pragmatist though, there are few things more natural than the materials of something old being reused by those currently living. Personally I fear gypsies because my father always threatened to sell me to them when I misbehaved. A few more trying moments and I may have been delegated to the copper harvesting crew! Seriously though, great anecdotes.
