Get those speakers off the ground! Your bass will be a lot less boom-y and more accurate. The closer to ear-level, the better. Unless you like sitting on the floor.

Well, in a recording environment, or dj-ing, you're going to want closed-back headphones for greater sound isolation.

Some of the best DJ/Studio phones are the ATH-M50 and the Shure 440's.

But the problem with DJ headphones (and earphones), because of their sound-isolating abilities and closed-back design, they lack good sound-staging. They hit a wall in their ability to produce accurate sound.

So, if you looking for something to really make your "listening experience better", I'd start to look at some of the higher end open-back headphones available.

Shure 440's. Cicumaural, closed back with vinyl cups (good sound isolation for both your ears, and others around you, without the suckage that is active noise-cancelling). All closed-back headphones are going to have sound-staging issues, 'tis the nature of the beats.

Durable as hell too. True studio headphones. Sound response is pretty good. The bass response isn't the most accurate, but at least it isn't as exaggerated as the M50.

Bonus: The Shure 440's also feature a locking, detachable cord, which is awesome for us gamers with rolling chairs. Replace the cable, not the phones.
