Last attempt at RI meetup!

First time lurking this subreddit and I find a Rhody meetup? Fuck yes. All these suggestions sound bomb, let's just get something concrete soon.

Why is AA so powerful?

Real Alphas don't need guns. Guns are for Delta and lower.

What's the coolest thing you've ever found?

The same person who plans to eat them on a Philly Cheesesteak at 6pm in the evening.

Seddit, is this situation reparable?

DCMurphy [S] 1 point2 points 12 days ago[-]

I had one-day oneitis already, on Friday I was kind of mopey and didn't really participate socially when I went out with some friends. But since then it hasn't been much of a problem.

The reason that I was asking if this was even a workable situation is because I'm pretty sure I'll see her on Tuesday.

I guess I came off as needy because this never happens to me. I didn't know how to react to the situation, she was texting me pretty much every day, and having pretty much any girl, especially a 9, try and talk to me that much I figured I would just ride the wave.

Is it just me or has Alex Trebek...

Thank you for reminding me that I missed Jeopardy! AGAIN.

I got an email today from my new graduate program titled, "Welcome breakfast for incoming students of color." Reddit, I'm white. Should I go?

DCMurphy 0 points1 point 18 days ago[-]

Technically speaking:

Black is the absence of color in terms of light. White is the presence of many (or all) colors. So you fit right in.

I said this at a Dairy Queen drive through yesterday. My girlfriend did not find it funny. I think she has no sense of humor.

I'm born on 8-16 and I approve this message.

EDIT: Okay, is this on PST or something? I see zero cake.

Jobs or services you don't like to tip for?

DCMurphy 0 points1 point 19 days ago[-]

I work in the restaurant industry, so whenever I go out to get food I tip. I'll toss change when I pick up pizza or ice cream, but I don't tip taxi drivers and I don't tip those fuckers who wash my windshield with Windex and a newspaper.

Those are light labels, not dark like Carlsberg. My guess is Beck's.

Too bad most planes don't serve Beck's... one of my favorite macrobrews.

Top 10 Ways Bartenders Screw Up My Old Fashioneds

DCMurphy 6 points7 points 24 days ago[-]

While I do agree that certain cocktails should adhere to a basic group of standards, it seems like the author is being a little picky about how his Old Fashioneds are prepared. Not all bars have a high volume of Old Fashioneds being served (as a waiter in an upscale restaurant I've only served one or two in two years), so asking for Clementines specifically for the drink simply isn't practical for the bar. Also, preference of rye, bourbon or whiskey really should be addressed while ordering the drink. If you like your martinis very dry, don't just order a martini, specify with whoever you're ordering with how you'd like the drink. Or make it yourself.

Frugal, yes, if you want both rooms lit. But you can't sleep in one room and have someone working in the other.

Turning Around a Bad Situation, Like a Gentleman. - FR

It was about a minute. The keyboardist was changing his instrument to a trombone and setting up some mic stuff. Maybe 2 minutes, but definitely only about 10-15 "exchanges" in the conversation.

What's the best way you've "cheated the system?"

DCMurphy 1 point2 points 1 month ago[-]

Working at Gamestop as a 3rd key manager. They ran a special a couple times where you trade in 3 PS2 games and you get an extra $10 in store credit. So I spent like $60 every week that the special was up picking up 20 of the cheapest games they had (but not sports titles), then I'd go trade them at a different store. Managed to accumulate enough store credit from investing like $200 to buy a 360 and a few games right after launch.

Levels of psychedelic experience. How far did you go?

DCMurphy 0 points1 point 1 month ago[-]

I don't know if it was level 4 or level 5, but my 60x Salvia experience completely shattered my illusion of reality.

I thought r/writing would appreciate this.

That's precisely why I've never really shown anything I've written to anyone.

Why is it okay for smokers to leave cigarette butts everywhere they please?

DCMurphy 0 points1 point 1 month ago[-]

Yes, if they blow smoke in your face, you're absolutely right. That's why smoking in bars is illegal in many places, etc. How is my smoking in my car going 50+ mph down the highway impacting your precious lungs? You might as well be pissed off at people who work at McDonalds because they make your unhealthy.

As many people here have pointed out, there are courteous and non-courteous people in this world. Don't demonize me because you hate other smokers. It's that kind of attitude that fueled the KKK, the national socialist party, serial killers and the murder of Matthew Shepard.

You're scummier than the inside of my lungs after a night of heavy drinking if you want to draw generalizations like that. People aren't all identical because they share traits, bitch.

EDIT: Lol serial/cereal spellchecker.

DCMurphy 0 points1 point 1 month ago[-]

Did I ever claim that I was being courteous? I try to dispose of butts when it's convenient to me. Is it selfish? Yes. But how many selfish acts do non-smokers commit every day? Drawing that overarching conclusion about who I am because I might chuck 2-3 butts out the window of a car every day is quite a stretch.

Think about the old food you might throw out every week because it smells. That's wasting valuable resources while there are millions starving in the world. How about the bottled water that you might drink that you throw out instead of recycling? Don't pretend you're so innocent and benevolent. Do you recycle all of your clothes through Salvation Army/donation bins or do you throw some of it out? Who among us is perfect? Please tell me that.

I participate in beach clean-ups in my community twice a year, before and at the end of the height of the tourist season (May/Late August). I may litter a bit but that doesn't mean I'm the sole problem or that I'm not trying to reverse the damage I've done.

Hi Pot, I'm Kettle. Nice to meet you.

Why is it okay for smokers to leave cigarette butts everywhere they please?

DCMurphy -8 points-7 points 1 month ago[-]

I toss them out of my car because they smell like shit when it's just the butt and I mind the way my car smells. I always smoke with the windows down and I don't want any of the stench to linger.

Otherwise I do my best to find a trash can. If I have an empty water bottle with me or something I'll stash them in there before I throw it out. Or throw them in a sewer drain, that works well enough.

To all the people who are so adamant against smokers: chill out. It's not your body, it's our bodies. I'm not going to tell you how you can or can't fuck, how fast you can drive, what you can do in your spare time, or how you choose to deal with stress in your day. I'd appreciate the same courtesy.
