Hey, I have flair! by MichaelJSullivanin Fantasy

Humble humble blah blah. It's refreshing to see that the current wave of fantasy authors (yourself, Sanderson, Rothfuss, Erikson, Martin, etc) make themselves very much available on the internet, whether through blogs or social networking or places like reddit. For someone like me, who reads as much fantasy as I can (admittedly I do not blast through books like most people on here, I'm going at a novel-per-two-weeks clip at this point with the little time I have), I've largely chosen what books to read based on reputation and accessibility from places like this sub on reddit. I've read Sanderson, Abercrombie and Rothfuss (and about 100 pages from now - maybe tonight - I'll be starting on Riyria) stuff mostly simply because of word-of-mouth on here and seeing AMAs and dialogue.

So while I appreciate that being accessible helps sell books and gain word of mouth, I don't appreciate any less being able to interact and discuss writing and reading with great authors. TL:DR - thanks for being available and candid in responses.

Thanks for being an involved member of the community. Having legit and talented authors who interact with normal people on a day to day basis is pretty damn cool.

Yeah I completely disagree. Having listened to seemingly a billion different hockey announces, I really don't ever mind Doc's vocabulary or voice inflections. I think he is pretty good.

If I was only looking at saving money, I'd just buy the cheapest stick I could. I'm fairly sensitive, at least as much as a low end rec league guy can be I guess, to how my stick reacts when I shoot and pass and stuff. My concern is not with JUST saving money, but with cutting down on overall costs and breakage while maintaining a similar level of feel and playability, which is a concern for me with stepping to a 2-piece.

Well, from a purely money standpoint, I could play with low-end sticks to begin with...I've just grown used to the nicer sticks and grown to love them. Cost effective? Probably not...but it is what it is.

Except the flex point would be drastically different, would it not?

Because not everyone looks at roller hockey as a pointless second-class citizen? The difference isn't as pronounced as it is on ice as far as stick performance is concerned, but its night and day between the APX and my old x6.0. Also, the stick I'll be buying will be used in the fall when I'm back on the ice as well.

And what looked like a george foreman on my phone is the reflection of a sink - even better.

I tried both - it came up with the same translation. Scumbag Google Translate - doesn't properly identify languages.

Jokes aside...his backhand is better than mine.

TIL that all those times I was mashing on random keys on my keyboard, I was actually speaking Czech.

Does it? Ok. You have a george foreman, surely you have a fridge and 15 minutes to wait for it to warm up a bit to proper temperature.

And likely would not enjoy actual "good" beer regardless. The type of people who would like something like Wild Blue do not usually have a palate for actual beers.

Just a quick, pretty simple question: How do you personally go about coming up with names for things/places/races/etc? by MrIncorporealin worldbuilding

[–]DeleriumTrigger 0 points1 point ago

A combination of foreign languages, butchered names of athletes I like, names of places around where I live, and random stuff i shove together.

For example, I like to pick a foreign language for certain races, look up random descriptors that are valid, run it through the translate machine, then alert it by a letter or two, a hyphen, etc as I feel like. For example, there are a lot of wood elves in the beginning of my story, so I (unoriginally) used Finnish (as much because I love the language as anything), and all the people and places are either finnish words, finnish places, or the names of famous finnish people I like (mostly metal musicians).

It can be nerve wracking and hard coming up with names, but stories simpler is better, especially when dealing with humans...just look at the things around us, and see how simple the names often are. Why complicate it more?

454 reviews, pretty good sample size. I'm not knocking you for liking it, everyone likes different stuff - I'm just saying this stuff is generally regarded as gross, so it surprised me to see someone loving it.

I think you might be the first person I've ever read/talked to who didn't find that stuff vile. It currently has one of the single lowest scores ever on beeradvocate.

Is this normal for a brew? by koigokoroin Homebrewing

[–]DeleriumTrigger 2 points3 points ago

The clumpies look like mold. My mead has a layer like this on it because of yeast nutrients I added during fermentation that didn't mix up particularly well. It does not have those green gunky floaties though.
