Just found out I can do this. Let the nostalgia begin. by eojenin gaming

Hang on a second, I was under the impression that I was the only person in the entire world who had one.

I guess the PlayStation 2 was a little before their time... by EarthLightin doodleordie

J'accuse!

Nah, it's probably my fault. I didn't make it as clear as I could have, but then I had the benefit of knowing what I was drawing ahead of time, so it always looked like snake to me.

Besides, it was the person below your description that broke the thread. I'd have been perfectly happy if it stayed about video games and mechs.

Hell, neither did I. I looked it up and it turns out it's from Killzone. Still not sure what a 'homestruck' or a 'brony' is, though.

Ah, how subversive of them.

It was an awesome game.

January 4th - Retro Futurism by DodongoDislikesSmokein SketchDaily

[–]EarthLight 10 points11 points ago

I only had a couple of hours I could work on this, but retro-futurism is a big interest of mine, so I was not going to pass this one up. I am sorry for the roughness of parts of it.

Science!

IDAP of a man in a hat by EarthLightin IDAP

I'm glad to hear you say that. I tried to make this relatively quickly (5 hours), so I was nervous about the outcome. I know my technique still needs work, but I think I'm going in a good direction.

Success on doodleordie can be measured by counting how many degrees separate your drawing from the nearest dick. by EarthLightin doodleordie

If you're looking for specific information, I'm not the best guy to ask. I never had any schooling or training in art. I will say that starting out I learned a lot from this site, though these days it's slow, out-of-date, and kind of animu heavy. It taught me a lot of important basics in any case.

Google can provide you with a lot more, though take its counsel with consideration.

A surefire way to kill a chain: Offend christians and football fans simultaneously. Mission accomplished. by EarthLightin doodleordie

[–]EarthLight[S] 2 points3 points ago

I do use a tablet, yes. It is possible to do something like this with a mouse however, it's just that it would take many hours of thankless fixing and re-drawing.

An ancient ritual, lost to time itself. The words themselves, hewn with some of the most terrifying imagery in the history of mankind.

In reality it's just practice, like anything else. I find an excuse to draw every day, and this kind of thing is very conducive to that end, not to mention being fun.

Years of tryhard-itis have not made my linework any less messy, though. C'est la vie.

Bored artists of Reddit, would you be interested in a subreddit to give you inspiration ? by Bladlein AskReddit

If it didn't end up dead like most subreddits, I'd draw all kinds of crazy crap there.

What I love about old PS1 discs [FIXED] by Riddla26in gaming

[–]EarthLight 1 point2 points ago

This is a Playstation Black Disc

When I first got a CD player in my car, it often had PSX and Saturn discs in it. This was before the advent of CD burners. I'll just go rust in a corner with the other relics now.

So after the last post I've decided to paint another one; Whomp's Fortress. Which one should I do next? by nickartsin gaming

[–]EarthLight 1 point2 points ago

I remember that one. I probably posted there, too. Mind you, it's not an attempt to say "Hey lookit me", it's more that I find the idea of many of reddit's artists working towards a singular goal really exciting. Seeing other artists produce vastly different versions of painted childhood memories is an awesome thing, and I hope more people get involved in it.

I wish I felt motivated enough to finish my series. Reddit hasn't seemed that interested in paintings as of late though. Maybe this is a sign that things are changing.

It's a worthwhile endeavor! I and some other reddit people have already embarked on this journey. Mine go:

Bob-omb battlefield - Tiny Huge Island - Jolly Roger Bay

I'm sure other redditors have finished the other ones by now.

Well, that is true. It's like the Kevin Bacon game but with dicks instead of movie stars.

That said, chains I get involved in seem to decay into cocks unusually quickly.

Upvotes and validation are probably the next best thing to this 'human affection' I've heard so much about.

Zooming in makes a huge difference. I didn't think of it for a while either, simply because most of these sorts of applications (flockdraw, iscribble, shipainter, oekakibbs) don't support it.

I've been drawing for about 5 or 6 years now. It's a nasty little habit I picked up in college. I've done a few request threads and commissions, but redditors always want drawings of animals doing wacky things. It's a struggle for me to draw an Emu Wizard on Rollerskates, so I'm almost universally a failure in that regard.

[–]EarthLight[S] 2 points3 points ago

I think that's why I like the site's concept so much. Not knowing anything about the previous drawing and only getting a kind of condensed-down beat-poetry description of it led me to completely the wrong conclusion.

I like that I was wrong in assuming that "Humanoid Bluebird and ShitMan" were a sort of bottom-of-the-barrel cheesy 60's television crimefighting duo. A more accurate description would have led to a far tamer re-interpreting of events.

As a reply though, "Vagina with an attitude" falls into the trouble area of the 'poor descriptions' efficacy graph...

I appreciate the compliment, though I will say that if you look closely, the lines are a wobbly mess. I just spammed undo until I was reasonably satisfied. Zooming in (ctrl +) helps a lot too, not to mention the site's code supports this well, unlike older flash/java-based whiteboard applications.

That said, if there ever does happen to be a line tool or a few more colors, I will be a happy individual.
