MFA, I need your help planning my wardrobe for a 4-month backpacking trip through Europe (trying to pack light). by GravediggersBiscuitsin malefashionadvice

[–]HoodratSht 0 points1 point ago

MFAer and one time Euro-traveling backpacker here. Here's what I've got for you.

When you're traveling through Europe, you want to be as stylish as possible. When you're backpacking, you want to be as comfortable as possible. Where you want to find yourself is at a perfect middle ground. OCDBs are solid, as always, but I'd get some basic t's of various colors. They're more comfortable with the pack, and at some point, it all becomes about what's comfortable with the pack.

You want a coat or jacket. You're going to experience rain in most places right now. Plus, you never know if you're going to improvise your sleeping arrangements (we ended up sleeping in a park one night, literally in a bush). Something down would be best so you can stuff it small and fit it in with all of your other clothes.

Don't pack too much pant wise. A pair of jeans or chinos lasts you more than one wear and you want to be able to fit other things in.

As far as underwear goes, I'm not entirely sure on your arrangements, but you have to consider that washing machines are sometimes few and far between. Get underwear that wicks (something meant for runners) or underwear that's cheap and disposable so you can buy new pairs while you're over there. It's a gross practice, but back packing is sometimes a trip that requires gross practices.

If I were you, I'd leave a decent amount of room for stuff you're bringing back. Euro fashion is awesome, and you can get some interesting stuff you won't see in the states.

Hopefully, I didn't make it sound too nasty. Backpacking is life changing. Going bare-bones is a great way to do it because it will make you really appreciate your wardrobe when you get back, but you'll know that you could live simply if need be. Have an awesome time!

Thoughts on these shoes? by Romesknightin malefashionadvice

GTH soles are really 'in' right now, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. I think these shoes are awesome especially if you want to peacock without looking like a douchebag. They'll add another layer to your style, and you're sure to get compliments.

MFA - What do you think about this tie? by foetusofexcellencein malefashionadvice

[–]HoodratSht 0 points1 point ago

black white and grray are fine, but it's the whole fade from light gray down to dark gray thing that's going on at the bottom that's just weird. maybe if the colors were in three solid blocks...even then it would be a zoot suit looking tie

The colors are kind of weird and it looks like something you'd make with MS paint. I'm not sure what occasion you'd wear in on either.

There was this one time that my friends and I were going to a film premiere. The attire was casual but we decided to class it up with suits and ties. On the way over, my buddy starts blasting Grounds For Divorce by Elbow--how could you not feel like a boss?

There are some songs that make me feel more stylish. I think we all have the ones that we listen to before a date so we can feel cool or before a workout so we can feel focused; style is no different.

Welcome to Boulder, Colorado. Population: FiveFingers, Dreads, and Frat Boys. My best advice would be to do your own thing. If you want to wear the outfit listed above, do it. Don't dress down to them, make them dress up to you. Worst thing that could happen is you become the guy who dresses well.
