Congrats, man! I don't play a lot of BF3, but I broke 500 recently, too! I think 500+ is top 10% of SPM, if I'm not mistaken.

Do ranks and visible stats improve or degrade the overall experience? by bombardactylin battlefield3

[–]HungerSTGF 1 point2 points ago

It's sort of a motivator. Using Battlelog, I can track my progression. I'm trying to service star every weapon, so going from weapon to weapon is easy with stat tracking.

Other than that, it's about playing for fun.

Playstation Plus is pretty f***ing awesome. (x-post from r/gaming) by Brad3000in PS3

50 bucks could be another game instead of paying for discounts and free games that are probably going to be played for a short time then tossed aside. That's just me though, I prefer retail games over downloadable titles.

The thing is, once you leave PS Plus, you will lose all of those free games you got. It will instead of launching prompt you to resubscribe to PS Plus.

Actually, the USAS12 with Frags was also a glitched weapon and wasn't intended to be as powerful as it was. It was supposed to shoot slower than the standard fire rate, but it was firing just as fast as if you had buck/flechette/slugs.

As funny as this is, I've never ended a Catan game in conflict. The table just ends up being flipped, but people are fine.

MLG, for the first time in the company's history, has chosen to NOT place Halo on its main circuit in favor of more popular PC titles by Brosephskiin Games

[–]HungerSTGF 0 points1 point ago*

I feel like Halo is more about meta than shooting, and Quake is more shooting than meta. Yes, you need to know the map placements, but a lot of the airshots you see are programmed reactions from playing so much. The best players are ones that can hit all their shots from any position. A lot of it becomes reaction. From the movement to the shooting, it becomes reaction and the meta just adds onto that. Halo doesn't require nearly as much reaction but you need to know the maps back-to-front for team co-ordination and weapon control.

When I played Quake, I didn't really imagine it as much of a team game more than Halo is, because there are moments when a single guy has a clutch moment where he goes huge and rails an entire team defending their flag in just a few split seconds. While that too can happen in Halo, it again, just isn't the same as it is in Quake.

What I'm trying to say is yes, I agree with you, Quake's got a high skill ceiling, but it shouldn't make people go out of their way to question the competitiveness of another game such as Halo. They're just different.

TimeSplitters 4 not in development - Report - GameSpot.com by LEGOslayerin Games

[–]HungerSTGF 2 points3 points ago

I'm still not sure how I feel about this matter. On one hand, Timesplitters has been a series that has consistently been awesome. On the other hand, Free Radical's last game pre-Crytek acquisition was Haze, which was so terrible, and Free Radical's last finished product as Crytek UK was Crysis 2, which wasn't considered a very good sequel to the first.

I don't know what I want anymore.

[–]HungerSTGF 2 points3 points ago

I already know how high the skill ceiling is in Quake, I played a lot of Q3TA but I mean, being really good at that doesn't translate to being really good at console games like Halo, and vice versa. They're different games, is all I'm trying to say.

Kinda like being good at Starcraft doesn't mean you're good at Command and Conquer, if that's fair to say. They just play differently but they still both work competitively despite everyone agreeing that CnC is a more accessible game.

Like I've said before, you're comparing apples and oranges. In Quake, you've got people moving around the map at a lightning-fast pace, trading railgun and rocket shots with each other and having very quick gameplay with high amounts of deaths. In Halo, it's a lot slower compared to Quake, and the players take a lot more hits before dying. The gameplay is then centered around a fight for control of the power weapons in order to gain the upper hand over the enemy. The gameplay is designed with the console in mind, which is why it works and fits the speed of play.

Both games have a high skill ceiling, as Quake requires a lot of practice in reaction to nail those rails in mid-air, while Halo requires a lot of practice in map knowledge for the sake of team tactics and knowing the weapon/vehicle locations as the maps are designed in a less symmetrical format than Quake and other older FPS games. One has a focus in "skill"/reaction , while the other has a focus in "meta"/game knowledge. That's not to say that Quake and CS don't require any knowledge of the game to play well in, but it's less of a focus.

FTFY, you don't even seem to know what commentators are and what they do, there's commentary in the beginning then the rest is just the squad communicating.

Hmm... Reach didn't jive with me with the armor abilities, but I know a hell of a lot of people enjoy it and still play it today. Just curious, what didn't you like about H3 and Reach?

I agree with you on first two being competitive games, the map designs were great although the weapon balancing in CE was a little... off? If that's fair to say. Halo 2 definitely had its multiplayer designed for competitive play in mind.

[–]HungerSTGF 3 points4 points ago

You're comparing apples and oranges here though. Look at the speed difference in terms of pacing between Quake and Halo! Quake's got players that are zipping all over the map airshotting each other with rocket launchers and railguns with very quick deaths, while Halo has a slower pace with more resilient players fighting for power weapon control.

Quake is more suited for a keyboard and mouse than a controller, but Halo was designed as a console shooter and embraces that, and you can see it in the gameplay mechanics. You can't just say it's a joke because it's slow.

This thread has a bunch of PC elitists already, jeez. People that think a shooter played with a gamepad is not competitive just because it's not on a keyboard and mouse can go fuck themselves. If you think console competitive gaming is such a joke, try it for yourself and see how you fare.
