I didn't know girls used toilet paper when they peed until I was 19. What are some massive gaps in your knowledge? by neestersin AskReddit

[–]JWordsmith 1 point2 points ago

Then why not use one square of toilet paper (if available) to prevent this?

I got to "gorgeous red head," and I knew. For once, reading Harry Potter references into everything paid off.

Alleras the Sphinx, especially if Spoiler He seems clever and very interesting. Plus, badass archer points.

I've missed the same things you have, apparently. I find Melisandre disturbing and extremely irritating, so it's not a stretch to say that I hate her. Worse than being a self-righteous zealot and proselyte, she (along with the Targaryens) represents the unnecessary magical element in ASOIAF. This series doesn't need the supernatural bits to be interesting, and I personally find them irritating.

Also, Melisandre is blinded by her own faith. When you have to put a glamor on a guy's sword to make it fiery, this should indicate that he's not the magical savior you're looking for. Basically, her fixation on Stannis is frustrating and ridiculous.

IAmA Ex-agnostic Convert to Judaism AMA by tova5in IAmA

Thanks for doing this post! I was an atheist for a few years before converting to Reform Judaism. (I'm actually still in the conversion process.) However, once I became convinced that there is no creator or "god" in any literal sense, I never lost that conviction. I now approach religion with a metaphorical, symbolic, and spiritual mindset; personally, I find this manner more fulfilling than literalism. So, spiritually and emotionally I believe in G-d, but scientifically...well, I find that somewhat irrelevant.

How far did your beliefs go to full-on atheism? If you ever sincerely doubted the existence of a god, did you change your mind? Or, is it more of an emotional, "spiritual" conviction that you've found?

I haven't. To be honest, I was sick to death of hearing "the cake is a lie" before I even knew what it was from. The concept's a bit ruined now.

That's why the comment used "social anxiety" with quotation marks. Social anxiety wasn't getting bashed- only people that use mostly imagined disorders to excuse their actions.

What is a topic you wish you could talk about more openly but are afraid it isn't appropriate? by Allanimationin AskReddit

YES. I always feel uncomfortable explaining to people that I wish I were born Jewish. I find ethnic Jews extremely attractive, and I love how insular and vibrant Jewish culture is. However, people always think I'm being offensive when I go on about how much I love Jews. :(

You wish your girlfriend didn't like masturbating so much? Why? Can I just point out that if she's a healthy human being, she's going to like to masturbate.

I understand the obvious answer to my question, but do you also think women should be put-off when their boyfriends really like masturbating?

If you haven't already read it, I highly recommend Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution is True. (I know I'm late to the party with this book, but I was waiting for the paperback. Cheapskate alert!)

It's well-written, intelligent, and so damn readable that anyone could enjoy it, regardless of scientific educational background.

As of today, same-sex marriage is legal in Washington D.C.. Does anyone have any logical arguments AGAINST same-sex marriage? As long as you're respectful, I , at least, promise not to downvote you. by HelloMaxwellin AskReddit

Hm, exactly. These arguments tend to get more and more abstract, and eventually people end up discussing "spirits" and institutional ideals instead of the actual human beings affected in the situation.

Kudos. However, re: #6: better yet, don't waste money on females ever. Let them buy their own stuff, and if a girl complains about not being pampered, she's bad news. Or maybe this lesson's a bit harsh for age 20?

Reddit, what do you think about when high? by electric_cowboyin Marijuana

[–]JWordsmith 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Either the truly cosmic or the truly absurd. I like to analyze my own thought processes because I can follow each little step, whereas when I'm not high, my mind takes bigger, more illogical leaps. Or so I find....

Does anyone else smoke mainly TO think? I feel like a high without great thoughts is a high wasted.
