Reddit, step into my office. Why haven't you seen John Carter? by JeremiahQuadsMasterin movies

Glad to hear you saw it! Disney's marketing department and director Andrew Stanton didn't see eye to eye on this film IMO. It's being touted as the worst bomb Disney or any studio has ever released. The release to DVD/Blu-ray is it's shining moment. I'm afraid the lack of treatment the movie will get though.

My mistake, I didn't intend to sound shrill. Apologies.

He'll receive work from Pixar. He's a writer of Monsters University, a prequel to Monsters Inc. It's very sad the mark has been missed with John Carter. But it's too early to tell. check out Box-Office Mojo. It's not a hit here, but in Europe it's like the hype is everywhere.

Not quite. Disney's promo team screwed up majorly though.

Thanks for providing such an awesome reply! My favorite scenes include the one you mentioned (which I'm so happy the writers and team on John Carter kept in the movie) annd John Carter in the arena with the two monsters. Reminded me strongly of the scene in Star Wars with Jabba the Hut making Luke fight the monster in the pit.

Here it is The fan edit makes John Carter look like a enjoyable and action packed blockbuster for the family. Disney's marketing team dropped the ball.

lol I know that feeling! I'll watch a movie occasionally. John Carter has been the best action/adventure film so far in 2012. If you want bad, I'm not sure if you know him, but I'd look into Ed Wood. He's a trip!

Physics. Martian gravitational force is only ~62% less than that of the earth's. I mean cmon he doesnt suddenly become superman. Maybe if he is in possession of the amulet or something.

Neil Degrasse Tyson discussed this in a sit-down discussion The scientific accuracy of films like John Carter doesn't matter. 2001: Space Odyssey or Primer? Definitely.

People are fighting a senseless war with no reasonable explanation while having advanced architecture and technology. 3rd party involved as well confusing and pointless.

The author of the books published seven books in the Bonsoom series between 1912-1964. The meat of this story in the movie comes from this book.

Aliens, jump motion, fight scenes barely believable. This movie did not grab me by the junk and slam me into a wall, even in 3D. For example, Hanna a movie about nothing was able to accomplish this in 2D. Even the wanna be Jason Bourne chick movie kicked harder.

The writers and director of Hanna took the stories of Leon The Professional and Bourne Identity and mashed them together. Nothing about that movie is above average to me.

The opening of the movie (on earth) was better than the rest that followed

The logic behind it's opening being better than the rest of the movie? Explain.

Costumes, shit the 5th element does right by costumes. Here we stuck with ancient roman/greek for guys with ladies being all sexy. No energy based weapons we just melee instead for the most part?

It's not entirely faithful to the novels as other fans will contest. but Andrew Stanton and his crew didn't insult the audience by updating the costumes, setting, or weapons.

Far from average. This movie has a thrilling action/adventure narrative and it's a great movie experience.

I am a sci-fi love, too. What do you like? Forbidden Planet? Time Machine? Planet of the Apes? Star Wars? Because if you like any of these titles, I'm not sure we saw the same film.

I have high expectations, too. We all do. This is why I encourage films like John Carter rather than see G-Force or another fiasco of a film is dumped on us by Disney.

This thread is pointing out the advertising by Disney is holding it back. I wish Andrew Stanton and JC's marketing team would have advertised this movie to geeks and Star Wars fans.

Dude what the FUCK is this? Where can I watch it?

The author, Edgar Rice Borroughs, wrote them in the early 20th century. They've tried to bring it to the screen for decades. Douglas Fairbanks, Ray Harrenhausen, George R.R Martin, John McTiernan. All these guys worked on the movie in one stage, but all failed until Andrew Stanton. It's out in theaters now. Check it out :)
