When I request help with code, there are three things I always make sure are present in my request:

  • All of the code
  • What I expected would happen when the code was executed
  • What actually happens when the code is executed

So I'm trying to say I think it would help if you posted the client code.

Steer clear of the west side of Chattanooga. Especially north of Brainerd.

Pretty sure you're thinking of East Chattanooga. East Lake, Highland Park, Glenwood, Avondale. A lot of property crime and some gangs. I live in Glenwood, myself. I really like living here, but I'm the kind of person that habitually locks my doors anyway.

Iron Gamer - A Massive 24 Hour Gaming Event May 26-27th! by SoloShotin Chattanooga

[–]JewStyleKungfu 1 point2 points ago

I want you to know what this looks like from a third-party point of view.

$40 is a lot for a tournament. I've been in a lot of tournaments, and it takes a lot to convince me to pay $40.

The main post on the iron gamer website says it went up a few days ago. So it looks like you're planning this $40 tournament one month in advance.

It also looks like you don't have a venue. That looks really bad to me, even though I'm sure it doesn't seem like a big deal to you. A month before the event, I would expect an organized person to have booked a venue and communicated that knowledge to anyone interested.

There's no mention, on the website, of any real live human beings that would be held accountable if this goes poorly or turns out to be a scam. So it looks like someone has something to hide. Given the circumstances, the conclusion I immediately jump to is that you don't want me to know precisely how little experience you have organizing this sort of thing.

Then there are your claims of a bigger event just on the horizon that hinges upon the success of this one. You're obviously trying to get people to invest in this event, but the first question any reasonable person would ask: why isn't this event as big and exciting as that one is going to be? I decided that the most likely and reasonable conclusion is that you don't have the resources, so you're just throwing this event as a sort of fundraiser.

So here's the opinion I have formed, given the information that you provided me.

You love gaming, and you've found a way to make money off of it. All gamers find one at some point, and most of those that pursue the dream fall flat on their face. Not because they aren't capable, but because they underestimated the time and patience necessary to pull it off.

You're trying to prove that Chattanooga can host a $40 video game tournament before anyone's been able to successfully prove that Chattanooga can host a $20 tournament, or even a $10 tournament.

That being said, I hope you succeed. I'm only writing this post because I'm hoping it helps you. I will admit, Aaron, that I have encountered you in the past and I did not like you. I hope I've managed to keep every bit of that out of this post, because right now I just see another human being with a dream and I want to support you completely.

I also hope that I've provided enough information about every one of my concerns that you can easily address anything that you feel is unfair.

BBC News - KFC must pay $8.3m to poisoned girl in Australia by QuitReadingMyNamein worldnews

[–]JewStyleKungfu 4 points5 points ago

can KFC really be blamed for this? Perhaps they did do all reasonable steps

You do realize the kind of thing that goes on in fast food kitchens, right? I don't know how things are in Australia, but every KFC I've ever seen has exploited the cheapest possible labor to handle my food. There are obvious consequences to that.

I think the most interesting part of this article, that I'm going to relate to normal non-redditors later on, is that so many people here in the comments don't seem to get how dangerous KFC already is.

Wow, that was not a popular post. Are Jews still running around downvoting things? Maybe you upset the Jews.

It just occurred to me, as I wrote that, that the reprehensible actions of those individuals who WERE running around downvoting things have colored my opinion of Jews. Even if that opinion is reserved for a small portion of them, it's still pretty bad for their image. They should reflect on that.

Just ran out of time to work on it, so I have to abandon you.

I've never used this method of building a web request, so I'm not fmailiar with these classes.

I don't think the setEntity() method does what you think it does, in the java method. I don't think you're actually adding those variables to the URI.

Having trouble finding a 2 bedroom apartment downtown close to UTC. Any suggestions? by meepitin Chattanooga

[–]JewStyleKungfu 0 points1 point ago

My wife gets awesome apartments with craigslist. She had to learn to filter out the spam, and she literally checked craigslist several times a day to make sure that we were the first ones to see all the apartments.

Jefferson properties advertises there, but, if I recall correctly, it's rare for the apartments to last longer than a day or two.

You should be able to find a place in the next few months, as school lets out.

The wildlife guys that remove birds from the airfield brought one of the eagles they caught in to show us. They released them a few miles away. by turnTheLeadin pics

[–]JewStyleKungfu 22 points23 points ago*

I worked in an elementary school for a little while, and got to take part in an assembly in the gym when some zoo people brought in giant birds for the kids to gawk at. One of the hotshot bird handlers released a Golden Eagle to let it fly a loop around the top of the gym. Halfway around the room, it decides to try and land on a basketball goal. Something went wrong and the bird lost it's footing, so he just snapped open to his full 8-foot wingspan, pivoted that terrifying emotionless face straight down, and descended into a group of 2nd graders.

Before that day, I would have assumed that it would take some practice for a 7-year-old to leap through the air while sitting on the floor with their legs crossed. I would have been wrong.

It was a very interesting visual phenomenon. Dozens of densely packed little 2nd grade brains had all been looking up at the biggest bird they'd ever seen. Listening to the handler describe, in great detail, how the Golden Eagle has enough killing force in its talons to eat whatever it wants. Giggling concernedly as they all watch him aim for the basketball goal. And as soon as he lost his footing, all of their little eyes popping wide open while their dozens of little brains all invoke the same primal algorithm to calculate the shortest distance to safety. It was like a bomb went off and threw them all out of the way. I think it's accurately described as the opposite of what would happen if you dropped a magnet onto a pile of BBs.

Good times.

Consoles as we know them are Dead by MrStrangein ludology

[–]JewStyleKungfu 5 points6 points ago

Look at free to play games, or microtransactions, or even MMOs. Consoles aren't driving those trends at all.

I think you're approaching this from the wrong point of view. You can't take free-to-play games, microtransactions, and MMOs and try to fit them into the console niche.

Consoles have a niche, and it was abandoned years ago by the console industry and game developers. You're acting like we abandoned them. It's just not true.

You want to know why consoles are stagnant? Because the console game development industry is that ignorant of what we want. I don't know how their heads actually arrived up their asses, but I clearly recognized it happening.

My generation fell in love with playing games socially, but you talk about "social gaming" like it was just discovered. The 90s was an era of social gaming. I grew up with 9 brothers and sisters spread across two houses and every one of us had a game we loved playing together.

When the Nintendo 64 came out, my dad bought me one for Christmas. We had one Nintendo to split between everybody. After a while, I accumulated 4 controllers. My favorite was the black one. I always plugged it into the first controller slot. I quickly became the designated Player 1. It was a big responsibility. You had to pick a good game, get through the menus and selections as quick as possible, give everybody a crash course in how to play, and I made it my responsibility to always be on the team with the worst player so that I could give them as much help and encouragement as possible. One game could easily entertain four people.

Then they started marketing to Player 1. I kept finding more and more games that I liked, but they were too complicated or just uninteresting to everyone else. They sacrificed split-screen multiplayer for more polygons. The industry put the spotlight on my needs, and I went from being "Player 1" to the being the only player. Ultimately, I put down my controller and followed everyone else.

Every once and a while I'll find a good game and a chance to share it. One night last year I found an opportunity to introduce three people to Zombie Estate on Xbox Live. One was my wife and the other two were women who had never picked up an Xbox controller in their life, but we had a great time. I got to be Player 1 again.

You look at mobile gaming and you think it provides you with a glimpse into the future, helping you divine the future of gaming. I look at everyone playing games on their phones and I see all the Player 2s, 3s, and 4s in my past. The industry gave them games that are so easy to play that they don't need me to boost them over the learning curve.

Every time my wife has a few minutes to kill, she pulls out her iPhone and pulls up Draw Something. You see her and think that the gaming industry has finally found a way to reach her. I see a girl who grew up with a controller in her hand, but put it down when the industry abandoned her family for a household with Males Age 18-35.

Are consoles dead? I don't care what semantic metaphor you come up with to describe the state they're in. Just don't fool yourself into thinking there aren't millions of people willing to pick up a controller. Game developers just aren't giving people what they want.

We want a dozen people in our living room holding controllers laughing at a tv with a giant bowl of Rotel and a refrigerator full of beer. We don't want a fucking headset and hot pockets.

Schedule said there would be magic and storm troopers at the aquarium at five. Walked around the aquarium from about 5-6:00 and didn't see any storm troopers or magic.

I'm just saying. There are a lot of things that aren't a big deal to promise. You promise me storm troopers and magic? Kind of a big fuckin deal. Maybe I missed the storm troopers and magic. Maybe they were under a bridge or behind a building or something. I still think it's reasonable, when you promise me amazing things like that, to expect some sort of sign pointing the right direction or apologizing for the absence of imperial forces.

I try and be mature about things like this, but I just can't deny that somewhere in my psyche there's a very pissed off 8-year-old me which is clinging to the promise of magical storm troopers.

Yeah, I eat a lot of mistakes. Shit, I cook a lot of mistakes. I completely understand how that happens.

This didn't look like a mistake. It looked like a rational decision. It looked like someone wanted to piss me off with a tortilla and 24 ounces of bland white cheese.

You know how some pictures just talk to you? This quesadilla spoke to me. It said, "HA! Look at this dumb fuck eating a cheese quesadilla! You won't believe how much he paid for this! Check out my tortilla. You ever eaten a saltine cracker? Yeah? Well, my tortilla is just like that, except without the salt. It's just an ine. See how boring that word is? It's not half as boring as how my tortilla tastes. I had to bake myself specially to achieve this insulting texture. It was so difficult, because other things with spice and oil and butter are also cooked in the same oven, but I was able to contort myself specially so that I came out without any taste whatsoever..."

It went on. It was a horrible experience, being taunted like that.

Best Buffets in Chattanooga? by Xikawnixin Chattanooga

WHOA. We need to focus on the second part of this post.

I'm going to need a list of all the restaurants in town with special time-sensitive buffets. I didn't even know this was a thing. I'll make a google document. Or a web page, or something. Maybe a service that sends text messages when a buffet is approaching.

Not sure if I'm hungry or legitimately motivated...

Oh, wow, an employee. Man. I've been wanting to interrogate someone about a cheese quesadilla I ordered there a few years ago. That's how much it offended me. I ordered it years ago, and it still makes me furious to think about.

It was the single worst prepared food item I have ever put in my mouth. The fact that I also overpaid for it just multiplied my anger.

So, my first question: A few years ago, did Aretha's contract to Orange Grove for their cooking staff?
