Agreed, the same for the "Aol laugh" (you'll know it when you hear it), the doom door opening sound effect (used all over the place in sci fi) and a number of other canned sound effects that people love to use stock...

At the very least mix the sound effects a little.. or if you actually want to be called a sound engineer, DONT USE THEM!.

At least the wilhelm is slightly less recognizable than the Howie Scream, but it's still unacceptable for anything with a budget over an indie film to use it.

The game is evolving people's opinion. There will be people who hate the game because it's online only... but a large number of people bought this game because it's diablo 3, and are enjoying it...

If it was some unknown game it wouldn't have gotten the exposure and now that it's out, people realize "online only" isn't so bad. Same thing happened with Half life 2.. people HATED the game because of steam.. now steam is a top retailer...

In my opinion Diablo 3 is evolving gaming culture. That causes a civil war, but also that changes the landscape for the future...

Does anyone remember when MMOs weren't single player? Everquest? Where you'd take a huge penalty for death, and most mobs at your level required a group?

I want to see the content of my MMO, I don't want to have to find 3-4 players to see content. WoW does it right.. I can enjoy 99 percent of the game solo in some way, with a few quests requiring a group. But those few tend not to be done because I don't want to waste time finding 3-4 people to tackle a mob. I'd rather go on to the next area and enjoy new content than sit around going LFG LFG!

MMOs do have unique experiences called dungeons and raids. But the fact is people don't want to only run them.. It's good for an option, but when's the last time you heard anyone playing wow do anything but the top level dungeons or raids? It's because it's the icing on the cake. not the cake itself. Hitting max level is where you learn the game, where you figure out how to play your character, and focus on your skill gains, and enjoying the set pieces.

Once you hit max level, then you can group with people and use those skills you learned to be the best DPS/TAnk/Whatever. And enjoy the spoils of the rewards. If you want to run dungeons at level 20, you can. But most people don't, and that's going to hold you back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing her. I'm bashing the public, and what success does to a person.

All her work will be compared to Potter, and Harry Potter books are very high quality in my mind (minus the 5th book). They arn't shakesphere, but they are fantastic reads and take you on a magical journey, they just hit the nail just right.

You can't do that with out talent, but she's now in the area of "How do I do that again" and the true answer is "you can't." Doesn't mean she shouldn't do either new books in the old universe, or new books of a new universe. But her future criticism is pretty much written already.

I don't have a misconception of "quality tv" in fact many of these shows are good enjoyable shows, I have a feeling I'd like freaks and geeks, and I love both firefly and Veronica Mars. But they are good shows as they are.. Restarting them now would be problematic, erroneous, and just bad form.

Honestly I think people have misconceptions on companies and why shows are canceled or products pulled. It's not hard to figure out.

They think they can't get more money back than what they have to put in to finish it. In TV, it's that they think viewers won't watch it, and when a show is canceled... it's that viewers AREN'T watching it. TV finally is understanding netflix, and dvd sales are in addition. But Firefly died both by Fox mismanaging it and no one watched it. There's a reason these shows are "cult" shows. Because only a very small subset of the TV audience would watch them and do.

Here's my take...

Firefly: I'll get down voted for this, but no. The actors are all moving on to better stuff. Getting Mal back would be hard, as will be Joss Whedon (I want him to keep working with Marvel, damn it!) It was a good show, but it's dead.. let it be dead, rather than come back as a frankenstein. it's better that it is "wasn't that a great show" instead of "remember that horrible restart"..
Freaks and geeks, never saw it but one of the characters is on How I met your mother, and movies, not likely to happen... ever.
Veronica Mars.... Oh How I would love more... except I don't. The first two seasons were amazing, the third season seemed to fall apart. I wouldn't mind a movie or some kind of one shot deal, but another season? Nah, another one that's better off dead. Why risk a decline (and Kristen bell is looking much older). A spin off? Sure. But too much time has passed sadly.
SGU. Maybe but SGU never really found that sweet spot the original or Atlantis found. Maybe make a new awesome spinoff instead? Stargate should be our generations' Star Trek.... whore it out!
Jericho... FUCK NO! the first season was horrible, but I kept watching hoping it would turn around it didn't. The second season was better, but it was too much ABC family movie, than awesome survival show. The world's been nuked you might be the only people left on the world... and ever other week we talk about a family gathering.. Fuck man. So much potential squandered, and worst the next time someone says "I want to do a post apocolyptic show." They'll point at jericho as to why not.

All In my family and other soaps: who cares? As a distribution venue, YES, or hulu... but as a production? Arn't there many other soaps out there? I can't care about this one.
Pushing Daisies.. Part of me says this show was really good, and then part of me remembers the second season and beyond and remembers, it lost steam fast and focused on side characters and gimmicks. But I wouldn't mind seeing more...
Party Down? Huh?
Deadwood: Haven't seen it. But I'd be behind this. It is supposed to be good. Don't know if the cast is available.

Don't get me wrong, I want netflix to do more. Lilyhammer is a good start, and I'm thrilled the stars aligned (and Michael Cera finally stopped doing movies) that we're getting more arrested development... But most of these shows are dead for a reason, and really shouldn't be revived.

I'm also calling it. She's run out of ideas for other universes and is doing the same thing. Going with the same universe and fleshing it out, rather than try to launch a new universe and having people consistently talk about how much better the Harry Potter universe is, ignoring the fact it's the one with 7 books in the canon + others that have fully fleshed it out.

Seriously, if she acknowledged a mistake here, maybe she should keep her job. But it's clear that the POLICE and MAYOR already sided with the kids before they even got to school, if they were being disruptive, then the police would have let them know.

Having to "explain" your actions usually means you have a confusing action. The "explanation" only confuses further.

You're right though, it sounds like the administration is angry that they weren't consulted on something. The issue is this was an action taken by private citizens (the students) and the necessary authorities (police) were contacted. The school does not and school not feel the need to be contacted.

P.S. There's also talk about this being a prank... Pretty poor prank, if it is one, it's just a fun activity. Though I can imagine someone working up a better prank after this reaction.
