Why Hasn't Nancy Grace Been Fired? by btrflyin politics

[–]LesterRoyale 15 points16 points ago

What? When did Nancy Grace ever kill anyone?

EDIT: Oh. you're talking about the Duckett thing. Fair point, my bad.

EDIT2: Actually no, not fair point. Don't use the word "literally" when it's not literal. Melinda Duckett committed suicide following a rough interview. Even if Nancy Grace may have been indirectly related to the event, that's not "literally killing" someone.

TIL the lead actor of The Gods Must Be Crazy films, Nǃxau ǂToma, only earned a few hundred dollars for the first film due to his lack of understanding of the value of paper money. He received education before the second film so that he could negotiate higher payment. by DrHalibutin todayilearned

Well, it really depends on your style. I saw this in high school for the first time a few years ago, and loved it. It has a great message, and the humor is unique and lovable. It may be a little "off" at times, but I think that only adds to the novelty of it. I like cheesy things, but that's just me.

TIL that the average time it takes for a medical innovation to come into daily practice is 17 years(!) by chrismoritzin todayilearned

Eh, we'll see. I'm planning on going to grad school as well, so I probably won't be in industry for another 4-6 years. Times change; hopefully for the better this time.

It's the fact that it's a law enforcement entity that coaxes them out of it.

I think the combination of the fact that the Devil is 100% evil and the fact that he's also 100% honest is pretty scary.

I'm just quoting what I learned in my Society, Ethics, and Tech class. They all affected everyone's life in many different ways. I wouldn't really say that the printing press or green techs fall under that umbrella.

"In the next 10-20 years" = It will reach "revolution" status within that timeframe. The change, as I said, is extremely gradual.

I'm a biomedical engineering major studying for my BS right now, and BME is the fastest-growing job in the market right now. The amount of jobs is still rather small, but the industry is already growing at a really fast pace.

In the world of technological evolution, biomedical devices are said to be the next "technological revolution". The first one was agriculture (~10000 BC), then came the engine (1800 AD), then came computers (~1960 AD). As far as predictions go, biomedical will be the fourth revolution, followed by nanotechnology, followed by artificial intelligence. Maybe not exactly in that order, but at least the biomedical revolution will happen within our lifetime.

That number will get smaller and smaller as time goes by. The biomedical industry is set to start booming in the next 10-20 years.

If it's not whining, then what is it? Why can't you just downvote and move on? Are you implying that every single thing that is ever posted to Reddit should only be posted once and NEVER again? Reddit's community is constantly growing. I'm sorry that every single thing that's posted isn't catering directly to you.

And who in the HELL cares about karma? I don't give a fuck if OP is a "karmawhore" for reposting cool stuff. You, the person calling him out for being a karmawhore, are the one detracting from the quality of posts on Reddit, not him.

Whining about reposts from MONTHS ago means you care about the site? Are you a fucking lunatic? You're what's wrong with Reddit. I find it amazing that you got so heavily upvoted for this and then calling him out for being a "karmawhore".

Who the hell upvotes people like you? Seriously.

Edit: I guess the same people who downvote posts like this without commenting. Go figure.

Refer to this. I asked a similar question a few weeks ago.

An important thing to remember is that we don't have any clue as to how life might evolve in non-terrestrial environments. Life (and humankind) arose in a VERY specific way here on Earth, and it was mostly due to a mixture of pure chance and the snowball effect. If there is any intelligent life out there, there's no guarantee that it will be the same type of intelligence as humans, ants, dinosaurs, or protozoa. They could be something completely different, evolving and thriving in ways that we can't even comprehend.

With that in mind, I don't think there's any way to really make the kind of prediction you're asking for. If, by some miracle, there is a race of aliens out there similar to human beings, they would probably have the same type of society-wide speculation of extra-terrestrial life that we have. It would be a kind of mirror effect.

Now, with the circumstances you provided in mind, another answerer has answered it pretty well. Simply put, there is no way with modern technology that we can directly "view" an extrasolar planet. We would need planet-sized telescopes. Even the closest stars would require a telescope of that magnitude. Viewing a planet hundreds of thousands of lightyears away is practically inconceivable. Of course, this all might change due to some breakthrough in telescope technology, but we can't just make that assumption.
