Perception is your dragon to slay. I for one thought that Mariachis were semi drunk out of tune musicians who came up screaming at your table and you had to make them leave. Then I went to the Mariachi festival in Las Vegas with my Mexican in-laws (I bought the tickets as a surprise), in a word I was floored. These guys were AMAZING musicians they play the Spanish horn in such a beautiful way it would bring tears to a lumberjacks eyes. They were polished and fun and just amazing at their art. Then Mariachis Del Sol came out, and played "The Devil went down to Georgia", you know Charlie Daniels! I was again twisting around in my seat and saying wtf, and they played it because they were trying to break from tradition and have fun - and in their culture people frown on this greatly. I now would jump at the opportunity to see pro musicians play upbeat and fun music like that again.
