Decided to start keeping track for a little bit. 1 day in.

Yesterday: +1.9u | Total: 1.9u

Today: Santos and Malmo to win, Elfsborg to draw w/ BK Hacken (my 'fuck it, why not?' pick of the week).

Santos at home is a scary thought. They have the firepower, they have the occasion, they have home field advantage... Velez Sarsfield has a stingy defense, but Santos seems to thrive on huge games. And it doesn't get much bigger than knockout stages of a major tournament.

My highest-level home team is Division 4, so I feel you on the lack of owners. Best of luck to y'all, I'll be pulling for your team to make it.

Yeah, because of the international matches. I remembered that after I typed this, but I decided it didn't change my opinion of the game. Wondo scores through excellent service and positioning opposed to individual flash. He's a great finisher, but it's not as big of a loss as Donovan and Keane, because someone else may be able to fill that slot.

I will try my best. I will have to see how quickly I can get out of work and over there. Getting there for kickoff shouldn't be a problem, but I don't know how much faster I can get there.

Cosmos are a totally different club, that died a long, long time ago. Red Bulls were MetroStars before being bought by Red Bull.

Bucks have made a bit of a habit of this thing over the years. They even beat an MLS team once, and lost to another on penalty kicks. But that was a long time ago now, MLS quality is much higher now.

I know I've talked to you about MCS stuff before, and I'm not going to miss this game for the world. I may try to drop by and hang out with y'all.

I'm just trying to decide what tickets to buy before they all get sold out.

My soccer picks (That's the only sport I know well). I would advise no one to use these until I know I see if I'm any good at this stuff:

Boca Juniors +260 It's a Fluminense home game (scary, scary stadium to play in), but the Brazilian side will be suffering from a red card suspension from the last game. Argentinian Boca have beaten Fluminense the last 2 times they have met, and are first in the Argentinian league, mowing down most of their competitors. Boca is only up 1 goal in the tie, so they will not want to park the bus, and give Fluminense a chance to get back in it. Should be a tight game, and a really fun one to watch.

Red Bulls -150 RBNY has been on killer form of late, and Chivas have looked average at best.

Fire -110 Pretty simple, Fire at home. Dallas has looked stale lately.

Earthquakes +260 This one puzzles me. I wonder what I'm missing. Galaxy have been awful this season. They are the defending champs, but they are aging, and they've looked sluggish on the pitch. Their three older stars have shown nothing so far. Wondolowski is a buzz saw for San Jose right now, league leading scorer. He's not an individual scorer though, he thrives on San Jose's strong team play. I can't figure out how Galaxy are favored, besides they are famous. I think San Jose will just overpower them man-for-man at the Home Depot Center.

Eddy Bosnar who plays for South Korea's Suwon Bluewings kicks a goal off free-kick going 121.68km/h (75 mph) was faster than Ronaldo's freekick back in 2010 against Real Zaragoza which was only 105km/h. (65 mph). by Guard01in soccer

[–]RiseAM 28 points29 points ago

75mph isn't record breaking at all, is it? It's wicked for sure, and pretty damn rare, but I seem to recall numbers upwards of 100mph for some shots. Maybe not freekicks though. All the others I can think of involve a ball bouncing back to the player who hits it, which gives it the potential to be a faster shot.

This one comes to mind I can't even fathom what happens here, or how the net is still intact. Even in slow motion, it looks wicked fast. My rough calculations put it upwards of 110mph. Definitely one of my top three favorite goals of all time, such an electric moment.

so we will likely fold after this season

Say it ain't so Cap'n... Fuck that noise. Stars are one of the teams I had pegged as doing things the right way and making true progress for American soccer, even if they aren't at the MLS level. It would be a major blow to have them fold I think.

Well that's the thing, looking at it, I'm not sure it's possible to lose money on the site, because it doesn't look like it involves betting real money? They make it sound like they only deal in virtual money, and make their profit off ads, or am I just being naive?

Thanks for the link, I'm sure it will come in handy at some point.

Yellowcard’s Ryan Key Takes Some Time To Talk To MLS UK by ntolmanin MLS

Scariest moment of my life was getting lost in Jacksonville. We turned down some side street in a bad neighborhood at dusk, and it was completely surreal. Some rather shady-looking characters started walking towards our car at a stop sign, so we got the fuck out of there.

Keep in mind that I'm from Detroit, but I found Jacksonville absolutely terrifying. Probably because I had no ideas which places to avoid like I do at home. Plus I can't understand the urban dialects from the South, so I couldn't understand what people were saying. I can usually muddle out what a homeless person on a street corner is muttering about in Detroit, because I have enough exposure to that way of speaking. But I can't catch a single word in the same situation in Jacksonville or Atlanta, which is a little unnerving.

I'm wary about marches... remember the backlash against OWS in the not so distant past when things got out of control. It could do more to harm the movement than help it, if they aren't organized properly.

Here's a more accutrate demonstration

Left is pure yellow, then pure orange, unlabeled is the reddit envelope, then pure red.

As you can see, it is pretty clearly between orange and red, hence the term orangered is used on reddit. The actual correct term to use would be Red-Orange.

If you want to be even more accurate, the exact RGB hex values are (255, 87, 0) which make it slightly closer to pure orange than red. The exact halfway mark between pure orange and pure red is (255, 64, 0), with red being (255, 0, 0) and orange being (255, 128, 0).

Mailbag Questions for March to the Match: Week 12 by MLS_Analystin MLS

Such is the beauty of evolution. Mutations, or other disturbances in genes can create quite significant changes in a species.

Once upon a time, when a daddy Trumpet forced his will on a mother Recorder, a bastard child was born. Horribly misfigured, it could only emit "BBBBRRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz". It lacked its father's shine or curves, or its mother's holes. It was only a cheap piece of plastic with a mouthpiece and a flared end.

And so it was shunned, cast into the wilderness. But the one positive characteristic it had picked up from its perverse lineage was the ability to breed stupid fast. Soon it was too late. Vuvuzelas were everywhere, and they were multiplying like 5th-graders on 10 minute math quiz. They chose their moment carefully, waiting until the eyes of the world would be on Johannesburg. Then they struck.

The rest is history. The evil regime has begun.

I nominate the Vuvuzela.

Not because it plays the prettiest melodies or keeps the best rythym, though I'm sure there is some sick fuck out there who believes it does. No, I use a definition of 'great' that is more focused on absolute power. In that regard, the Vuvuleza is truly King. It is the only instrument that has the power to make 260 million souls yodel to the heavens to have their misery extinguished. All that pain and suffering, in the span of a mere 90 minutes.

Yes, the Vuvuzela is King, and Celine Dion shall be its queen. Together, they shall create a reign of terror and waste that is unparalleled in the history of everything, ever.
