Which death scene in any book, TV Show, and/or movie made you the saddest? by WonderAliceLandin AskReddit

[–]StochasticOoze 1 point2 points ago

Eli's death kind of pissed me off. Why? Well, think about it. The Administrator comes, and he picks up a lead pipe or something and starts beating at it.

Meanwhile, you're standing there completely unable to move due to the Admin's telekinesis.

So to recap: The sixty-something cripple manages to fight back against this creature, but you, a twenty or thirty-something guy in good shape in powered armor, can't do shit.

The only explanation I can imagine that makes any sense is that the Admin can only hold so many creatures at once, and it holds back you and Alyx instead of Eli because you two are more of a threat. I guess that would also explain why it didn't seem to be able to do much of anything to Dog.

Escape from Warsaw (also sometimes known as The Silver Sword) by Ian Serralier and Number the Stars by Lois Lowry are both good children's novels about the WWII era.

It could be that the space used to be occupied by a GameStop. I've seen other small businesses that, either due to frugality or an attempt to confuse people, barely changed the name from the original tenant. For instance, there used to be a donut shop in Mesa, AZ called Vinchell's.

A Engineer says that the U.S.S Enterprise is 20 years away from being a reality. If we start now and at a cost of 1 trillion dollars. by DjKaiserCharles444in startrek

in fairness, the original Enterprise didn't have replicators. So that's ONE impossible technology he's not claiming will exist in the next twenty years.

I heard McFadden left after Season 1 because Maurice Hurley was sexually harassing her.

I hated Pulaski, but I have to admit that even with her only having been around for one season, her character was probably better developed than Crusher. For some reason, the writers just didn't know what to do with Crusher.

Or Troi.

Or Yar.

...basically the writers weren't good at writing women, is what I'm saying.

[–]StochasticOoze 35 points36 points ago

I didn't see it, but I heard it:

I was working overnight security for a convention. I was walking the halls when I heard a loud bang, like a gunshot. I went looking around, found the other guard on my floor standing at a door in the rear hallway looking pretty shaken. The bottom of the door was blackened and part of the doorjamb had blown off.

Apparently, he had been chatting up a lady guard who worked for the hotel we were at, and had decided to see if this door (which had been left standing open) would still close with all the electrical cables running under it, including a huge one that was hooked up to a 460V power supply for some stage lighting or something. It was this cable which he breached while trying to force the door shut. There was still power running to the cable, and the electricity arced through the jamb and burned part of the door.

Luckily for this guy, most of the door was wood. If it had been metal, I would've most likely found a corpse.
