Capitals fan here! Great series Bruins! by VTHomelessin BostonBruins

[–]SynysterSaint 0 points1 point ago

Rask is a capable goalkeeper who's underutilized by Julien. I don't think Thomas is going to be part of the team much longer (whether it's due to his age or his no-trade clause expiration doesn't matter), so Rask needs to be given more time in the goal to give Chara and Seidenberg (along with the rest of the defensive linemen) a chance to get comfortable together. It was a show of good faith that Julien didn't trade him earlier in the season when the rumors of Rask being moved off the Bruins were at their height. In Rask's defense, though, it wasn't always entirely his fault that his numbers were lower than expected because it always seemed, to me at least, that there was a disconnect between him and the defensive line. I could completely off on all of this, but I believe that the Bruins would have done better if they switched out Thomas for Rask after the third game.

That's great! You, sir, have just given me a new catchphrase.

Medical Marijuana Passed By Connecticut House Of Representatives! by ashwin526in politics

[–]SynysterSaint 8 points9 points ago

I only hope that medical marijuana will be available to people suffering from mental issues as well as physical issues, which the Courant write-up seems to say is not the case. Marijuana is the only thing I feel comfortable using to treat my insomnia and depression. While Connecticut is progressive, it's unfortunate that I smoke primarily for medicinal purposes yet I'm viewed as a criminal for doing so.

I hope all of the postgame interviews with Holtby unsettle Thomas. The man's goalkeeping is top-notch (even if he didn't play like it in this series), but he's constantly separating himself from the rest of the team and acting like a rebelious child--it's been this way since the White House incident. If he didn't have his signature goalkeeping style (or lackthereof, which makes him so much fun to watch), I'd be wishing for him to be traded. Holtby is exactly what I want, and expect, out of a professional goalkeeper. I expected more out of Thomas than the bitterness and unsportsmanlike discourse he showcased in this series.

Not too long ago I said Thomas was my favorite player. That's changed in just a few short games.

Why aren't Bruins fans making more out of Washington's GWG? Here's a breakdown of it, from my (Sens) perspective. by Mcgyvrin BostonBruins

[–]SynysterSaint 1 point2 points ago

They should have waved it off; I completely agree with that. However, I'm not going to put up a fuss that they didn't. The only two issues I have with the Bruins/Caps series were the refs and Ovechkin. Because let's face it: the Capitals are a great team, and most of the anger over the loss is about Ovechkin's bragging rights. Although, as with the theme of turning the lens on our team that I've been upholding, Marchand dove more than an Italian soccer player.

How do people feel about the GWG by the Caps being allowed? As a referee and someone who wanted the Caps to win, I feel it should have been waved off. by Mcgyvrin hockey

X-post my comment from r/BostonBruins.

The refs made terrible calls in favor of both the Bruins and the Capitals at various times throughout the series. I can count at least one game where the swing goal was scored by the Capitals after a bad call against the Bruins or an ignored call that should have been on the Capitals; the opposite is true, as well. As one of the comments in the r/hockey thread put it, looking back with all of the evidence you've shown it's obvious what happened, but at the time the goal looked legal to most of us (it certainly did to me). Yes, it makes me angry that the Capitals won on a shitty call, but it's not our place as Bruins fans to get vocally upset when it was just as likely the refs would have allowed us such a goal. For us to argue over one more goal would be unsportsmanlike at best and hypocritical at worst.

This series was an absolute joy to watch. All of my issues with Ovechkin aside, it was great to see a young player like Holtby come into his own and a genuinely good guy like Ward win the series at the end. It's a shame this wasn't the finals; I doubt any of the following match-ups will be as intense or as much of a struggle.

Meta. - Phoenix Down. I don't know where this dude came from, but the orchestration, melody, and progression is fucking impeccable. by Mindpha5erin dubstep

[–]SynysterSaint 0 points1 point ago

The only thing that struck me as interesting was the pizzicato in the beginning. Props to him for using an underutilized technique so well. When the bass comes in the melody just kind of stops, and we're left with an underwhelming, mid-range thing as opposed to a line of any sort. Dropping out the melody without bringing in something to compliment its absence is just shoddy writing at best.

Just before the Bruins game winning goal. You make the call. by TheGhostofAndyRoonyin hockey

[–]SynysterSaint 6 points7 points ago*

There were a lot of awful calls that game, and an equal amount of them benefited the Caps as they did the Bruins. For example: Chara gets two minutes for roughing which the Caps use to score a goal while Alzner doesn't so much as receive a warning for pulling the same stunt on Lucic. Bad calls happen and, sometimes worse, they get missed altogether. Get over it.

What do you all think about Tim Thomas? by VTHomelessin BostonBruins

[–]SynysterSaint 2 points3 points ago*

Thomas is the bear that the "Boston Bruins" name is referring to. The man is a fucking animal who's fun to watch in-game (who else will consistently roll on their back to make a save?). He's my favorite player, and I imagine he'll continue to be for years to come... so long as I ignore his political views.

Where do you live, r/BostonBruins? And how did you become a fan? by infosnaxin BostonBruins

[–]SynysterSaint 2 points3 points ago

I'm from Connecticut, and I grew up in a family that didn't care about sports in the slightest save tennis. In middle school some of my friends were huge Bruins fans, so I watched games and got into them. During high school I had a falling out with the sport. Then I started watching How I Met Your Mother and Robin reminded me of how much I missed it. I turned on the TV and watched a Bruins/Flyers game. It's been a few years, and I'm back down the rabbit hole.

Mass Effect 3 was falsely advertised according to Business Bureau by ultraplayerin Games

[–]SynysterSaint 2 points3 points ago

There's a difference between someone writing an OpEd about Mass Effect 3 on the BBB site and the BBB making a ruling on the matter. There's no reason to further sensationalize an issue that already has far too much publicity.

I might as well get in on this while the acceptance is going around: I'm not a fan of Portal. The portal gun is a brilliant tool for puzzle games, but the puzzles always end up with variations on the same solution--you need to make portals to help you "jump" levels, or you need to move a box from one area to another then make portals to help you "jump" levels. Each game is good for what it is, but they both feel like the foundations for bigger puzzle games than complete games.

My LoL Wallpaper(Compilation by me, Character Art by ganassa) by Sylvanazin leagueoflegends

The issue people are having is that she's included in a group of highly sexualized adult characters. The artist seemingly kept this in mind by giving her a much less revealing outfit and making her pose more innocent than suggestive. Even with those details, though, it's an uncomfortable image that would only stand to benefit from having Annie removed.

To them it might be the end of the world. But to the Tower Junkies, it's nothing more than another spoke on Ka's wheel. A wheel that runs you over at the end of the series.
