Yeah. It's, um, a little late for that, we just read it.

Father of a 5yo son here.

  • You remember how much more fun things were when you were a kid? How some crappy plastic toy could capture your attention for hours, and be mindblowingly awesome? Well, turns out that fun is infectious. It's like watching a kitten pouncing on things, only a whole lot more interesting. (and occasionally annoying as fuck, but then kittens are too from time to time)

  • On a similar note, there's a lot less grey in children's emotions. When the world is not shit, it's amazing - not all jaded and meh as life tends to be as an adult.

  • You get a legitimate excuse to watch a shitload of cartoons. And they are SO much better than they were when I was a kid.

  • Teaching them stuff, and watching concepts grow in their head before your eyes - holy crap, that's awesome.

  • Deranged laughter at the silliest things, and more wacky wtf absurdity than an entire year of nicktoons. Does your heart good, I tell you.

  • Being able to care for someone who genuinely needs you, being their rock.

  • Having someone to love on a deeply primal level, and having it returned with absolutely no 'its complicated'

  • An endless succession of annoyances and frustrations that are AMAZING VICTORIES when overcome. When was the last time your heart nearly stopped with excitement at seeing someone eat peas?

  • Absolutely no tact or social filters, so they say exactly what they mean.

  • Cheeky as fuck. There is no limit to their trolling for lulz, whatsoever.

  • Seeing all the opportunities and potential ahead of them. Damn.

Men of Reddit, what is one thing that you think every woman should know? by youdirtfarmerin AskMen

Pretty much.

Well, unless they're particularly annoying/mean to cats/stupid/smelly, etc - but I'm assuming that's a given.

A lot of guys are taught to feel ashamed of having sexual desire, that it makes them creepy, or perverted or barbaric or sexist. They're taught that sex is an imposition and chore for women, and a reward/payment for good behaviour.

A lot of them are also taught that their body ranges from undesirable to repulsive; that even if women like sex, it's despite the body of their partner. Point out a naked man somewhere, and the general reaction, male or female, will be "Ew, gross!". Point out a naked woman, and while the reaction might be disapproving, it won't be disgusted either.

As a result, an awful lot of guys have self-esteem issues that make your cosmetics-marketing woes pale into insignificance - that they're then not allowed to express without shaming themselves.

What a lot of these guys primarily want (but probably wouldn't let themselves believe) is to feel proactively desired and desirable, like they're made out of expensive molten chocolate. What they want is to be leapt on... not as you being nice, but out of entirely selfish gimme, because dammit you want some of that. They want to be looked at the way they look at you: hungrily, and wondering if you can sneak a taste when nobody's looking.

Yeah, there's a lot of social (and perhaps biological) pressure for them to instigate, pursue, seduce and dominate... but that can really reinforce the sense of being fundamentally undesirable, always having to convince others into coming out to play, instead of vice-versa.

I have three siblings, all very close to each other in age - but I'm about five years younger than them. Nobody ever actually wanted to play with me, it was more like babysitting duty that they drew lots for. Feels bad, man.

And as I grew into adulthood, the deal with sex, dating and relationships felt depressingly familiar.

So if a person denies consent to sex, their spouse must honor their wishes, is that what you're saying?

Almost as though they had some kind of authority over their own body?

That didn't answer my question.

I'm glad you uphold bodily autonomy - a disturbingly rare thing to see these days. However, I do need to take up a few of those points with you.

a) Trauma for infants is not limited to conscious memory of the event - studies have shown life long decreased pain thresholds and increased reliance on external coping aids.

b) A bit of a red herring, as routine FGM was practiced in sterile hospital conditions in the west right up until the 60s, I believe - but that made it no less abhorrent. Also while we're at it, how about the boys dying from herpes after a mitzvah b'peh from an infected mohel?

c) Removal of the clitoral hood - type 1a - is precisely equivalent. So, uh, yes we can talk about comparable procedures.

d) I certainly do object to people tattooing children, and I'm not happy about piercing them, either. At least piercings don't remove tissue and nerve endings or destroy functional structures. Foot binding definitely is mutilation - it's just a more specific term. As for social conditioning - there's people "socially conditioned" to cover up for paedophile priests, too, and to hell with them all.

There are many who say even if sex is only 1/3 or 1/2 as good for circumcised men as intact men, it's still great and I love being Jewish and wouldn't change it.

I don't doubt that you do, but it's not really the point here, is it?

Further, I dare say people equally declare sacrificing women's sexual pleasure to be 'worth it' for the sake of cultural identity, but you'd gently suggest they go fuck themselves, no?

Look, this is my point: women's bodily autonomy is considered inviolable; men's is considered expendable. That's not even slightly OK.

You're an intactivist, I see. We're probably not going to discuss this rationally and you'll call my distinctions above false and purposely obtuse and I'll think you're misguided at best and delusional at worse and we'll continue to debate in the social sphere and not convince each other to change our minds.

Please don't poison the well. (fuck, that's got an unfortunate name :D)

I am an intactivist - but how does that make me incapable of rational discussion, exactly?

All that waiting gets you is cranky.

There's more to reproductive rights than abortion - it's the right to choose when and if to get pregnant in the first place. Or, for that matter, when and if to have sex.

Should people have the right to choose these things for themselves?

I'm a doing a masters in comp sci, and I am utterly incompetent at high-school algebra.

Higher-level stuff, I can do fine - I'm getting by nicely in this degree. But the actual mechanical, string-manipulation, move-x-to-the-LHS stuff... makes my brain implode. And no amount of practice or mentoring seems to help - intense studying lets me acquire just enough skill to get through an exam or such - and two days later it's all gone again, and I need to re-learn it almost from scratch next time.

I do not know why this is.

My foreskin doesn't roll back. How can i fix it? by Sparticin sex

[–]TheBananaKing 1 point2 points ago

Stretching. Spend at least 5 minutes a day pulling it back - not quite to the point of pain, but more than is comfortable.

If you don't make progress after a few months, go see your doctor and get some steroid cream, which should help the stretching process greatly.

Remember, there are people out there with lip plugs the size of an ashtray. Tissue will stretch with perseverance and patience.

If you're just not getting results fast enough even with the steroid cream, there are plenty of options short of circumcision. Remember, you don't want to lose any tissue if you can at all help it, or as little as humanly possible if there's no other option.

Surgical interventions include a dorsal slit - a simple cut down the foreskin, like a split skirt, to let the seams out a little. Or a partial circumcision, which only removes a small amount of skin from the very tip.

Whatever happens, don't let a doctor hustle you into getting a full circumcision without exhausting all the options. A lot of doctors simply have no clue, and recommend amputating the entire foreskin out of sheer ignorance and laziness. If your doctor isn't as invested in saving your foreskin as he would be in saving your finger, go to someone else.
