I'm new to this subreddit, but is it kind of useless to have 70%+ of all content dailychronic articles? by SkrozSplitskiin Marijuana

[–]TheDailyChronic 3 points4 points ago

Articles on The Daily Chronic are contributed from many sources within the marijuana reform community, including organizations such as DCRnet, MPP, NORML, LEAP and others.

The Daily Chronic serves two purposes:

1. Educate and inform the cannabis community -- Our goal is to be the daily news source for the cannabis community, providing the latest in news and information to interested readers. We help grassroots reform organizations increase the spread of their news, reaching new readers they otherwise would not have. All content is syndicated with permission. This is no different from news agencies, such as The Associated Press, Reuters, and UPI, who have been syndicating articles from local newspapers to their national audience.

2. Increase revenue for grassroots reform organizations -- The organizations who contribute content to The Daily Chronic receive ad revenue generated when their articles are viewed on our website. In January, articles contributed by Stop the Drug War, for example, amounted to 20% of our monthly page views. In return, we will contribute 20% of our monthly advertising revenue to them.

Remember, these articles are syndicated with permission by the publishing organizations, who appreciate the additional readership -- and revenue -- they generate from The Daily Chronic.

Would any Ents like to contribute articles about growing to The Daily Chronic? by TheDailyChronicin microgrowery

When I referenced plagiarism, I thought it was because you were saying "Just find an article about tomatoes and substitute marijuana."

The percentage is equal to the percentage of page views received.

The same as anyone else: a percentage equal to the page views for articles I write.

For the record, we are not looking to increase traffic by adding grow articles. Our readers have been asking for articles on the topic.

We write about what we know: Politics, marijuana law reform, and activism. And we will continue to do so, and keep the cannabis community informed of current politics, marijuana reform efforts, activism movements.

And that is all we are asking from the growing community -- just putting it out there that we accept submissions if anyone wants to write about what they know, and help the cannabis community grow.

You can always designate yourself as recipient of your royalties, as well. We thought our payment structure was perfectly fair: A percentage of ad revenue equal to the percentage of page views your submissions receive.

And yes, there are advertisements on the website - that's where the ad revenue comes from.

And how much of that $450 is contributed to anti-prohibition efforts?

We're not the paper to contribute to if you want to get rich. Our advertising revenue helps to make a difference by supporting cannabis reform organizations nationwide.

Sharing knowledge with the kind community while helping to raise money for cannabis law reform? PRICELESS.

Just substitute tomatoes (or your choice of plant) for marijuana.

BTW, that's called plagiarism =)

Fifth paragraph down. Obviously your copy editors did not check that submission too well, considering I found it upon the first read thought

Yes, we all make mistakes sometimes. ;-)

One local tv station released the student's name and photograph. We elected to respect the child's privacy.

And yes, he was a minor at the time of the incident.

Meet Obama's Proposed 2013 Federal Drug Budget -- $26 Billion to Fight a Senseless "War On Drugs" by blaiz247in Marijuana

[–]TheDailyChronic 2 points3 points ago

Sad but true. Many lawmakers, including governors from RI and WA as well as 42 members of the Washington legislature have petitioned the federal government to reclassify marijuana to a Schedule II drug, but to no avail. If cannabis were to be reclassified, it would open up a world of possibilities, from legitimate medical research (not just the few federally funded studies) to doctors prescribing marijuana as medicine, to having cannabis stocked on pharmacy shelves around the country.

Sadly, the federal drug budget doesn't specifically allocate funding towards any drugs in particular, however the majority of federal drug spending is spent in the War on Marijuana. Marijuana is a Schedule I drug, making it a higher priority than Schedule II drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

Personally, I believe that the $26 billion would be better spent on drug treatment for people with problems with drug addiction, not on prosecution of non-violent drug offenders.

And don't forget, the most dangerous drugs in America are kept behind the pharmacy counter of your local CVS or Walgreens.

If mainstream media took the marijuana reform community seriously, we wouldn't need to exist at all. We hope to be the publication that is taken seriously, some day. We aim to bring the credibility and respectability of publications such as the New York Times to the cannabis community, much as how the Huffington Post and Alternet have become mainstays in alternative news.

That's what we thought! We have a pretty good team of copy editors here that check all submissions!

Rhode Island Voters Overwhelmingly Support Marijuana Reform -- 52% want Legalization, 65% want Decriminalization, 75% Happy with Medical Marijuana in RI by SativaGalorein Marijuana

[–]TheDailyChronic 2 points3 points ago

True, but 65% in favor of decriminalization is overwhelming support. Also, consider this: in 2008 Obama won the election with 53% of the popular vote, which was considered a "landslide" by mainstream media.

What "issues plaguing the nation" did he actually converse about? Dancing, late night snacks, and playing tennis?

The number one question THE NATION ASKED, repeatedly, did not get answered.
