ELI5: Why did Zuckerberg go public with Facebook's stock and why are the shares tanking? by illymaysin explainlikeimfive

[–]Xombie818 133 points134 points ago

Seriously, no one is to blame except for the knuckleheads that bought the stock when they had no idea how to estimate its actual value. The company itself is laughing to the bank.

This girl's got some pretty amazing stuff on her channel, her covers of Mazzy Star and Radiohead's stuff are better than the originals, IMO

[ELI5] Why didn't Google just buy the shit out of Facebook at that IPO? by 1r0n1cin explainlikeimfive

[–]Xombie818 1 point2 points ago

When a company divides its ownership into small pieces and sells them to the public so that anyone has the opportunity to own a part of that company. Most large companies make shares available to who they'd like to sell or give them away to beforehand, but an IPO means that they've made it available to the general public.

Do we know what was supposed to happen in the scene Chevy refused to shoot? by czartimin community

[–]Xombie818 5 points6 points ago

The game was to show Chevy's virtual dad tossing a virtual ball to him, and Pierce pressing a button to toss it back. Pierce was going to hug Abed. It sure would have been better than the tag they ended up with.

Came here to talk about the music. The theme at the end with Theon absolutely nailed the scene for me, it perfectly captures the horror of the moment.

I think that comes through in the show. It's basically the devil on his shoulder that's pushing him to do terrible things so he can win the love and respect of his family. He didn't want to kill Rodrick, but he was pushed into it, and he seemed to have broken a part of himself after the fact. And he looked shocked when he saw what happened to the boys. I believe him when he told Luwin he wasn't going to have them killed, I think that was done behind his back.

That's a bit much. I don't think he sees her as much more than a very clever servant that he finds entertaining.

I always love a villainous character who you can understand well. She's not an asshole for the sake of being an asshole, she's just a person who'se been through a lot of dark, painful stuff and wants the best for her children, like all mothers do. She knows that if her son isn't king, that their whole family will probably be killed by whoever takes the throne.

Wow. This man is severely misused on the show. That was insanely awesome, but none of that energy comes through in the final product.
