Just celebrated my quarter century birthday at one of my life long goals! Truly a breathtaking place! by IMAPass-a-fistin pics

Congrats! That's the one place I've always wanted to go. I'll make it before I'm 40.

I think meteors falling and hitting things would be awesome, but only if it were a slim chance like lightning. Maybe there's something special in the meteor crater and you need to go find it, like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or something.

[advice] Running minimalist C25K question about pain and stretching by TheFrinin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 0 points1 point ago

As someone who mows the yard barefoot, stepping in dog poop really isn't that big a deal. You swipe your foot across the grass and wipe it off. Just make sure you rinse your feet before you go in the house. I'm sure there are far worse things to step in.

[advice] Running minimalist C25K question about pain and stretching by TheFrinin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 1 point2 points ago

This. I can tell a difference in my foot strike if I run in VFFs for as little as 3 days without going barefoot. I have actually heel struck intentionally while wearing VFFs just to see if I could do it, and while it wasn't a comfortable stride for me, it was possible to do without heel pain.

As many lug nuts as I see in the gutter, I'm surprised that most cars still have the wheels on them.

I really wish the Seeyas fit my feet. I think I would have really liked them. This is a good example of "YMMV."

After today's run, even my blisters had blisters. by BeechesLoveLeavesin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 1 point2 points ago

I don't typically have a problem with blisters, at least not since my first few months going barefoot. The only time I've had to use tape was a marathon last month, and it was just to cover a blister on the side of my second toe. It was rubbing inside my VFFs because they were wet from the rain, so when I took them off I thought it might not be a bad idea to put a bit of tape, especially since my feet were wet. I stopped in at one of the medical tents and just used whatever tape they had, and it happened to be athletic tape.

I'm going to do a half this fall, and I'll probably do it barefoot, which means I should probably run barefoot for more than 50% of my training runs. The duct tape thing might come in handy when I run 2 days in a row. I appreciate your input. The cheapness of duct tape is definitely a factor, not to mention that I probably have 5 or 6 rolls scattered around my garage already.

I thank them during the race also.

Is duct tape better than athletic tape (besides being cheaper)?

Fast transition to VFFs/barefoot? by jarjardinksin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 0 points1 point ago

I transitioned with no problems at all. I grew up playing soccer, and those cleats are generally zero drop with little to no heal cushion, and I go barefoot most of the time when I'm not at work. I did C25k barefoot last year, actually finished 4 weeks early and kept going from there. I think I was running 10k about a month later.

I got some VFFs when I started running outside my neighborhood for my longer runs. Now I split it about 50/50 between barefoot and VFFs. The only difficulty I had was toughening up the soles of my feet. I never had that calf soreness that everyone talks about. I'm sure I could have run a marathon by the end of the year (I started running in April), but it wasn't a goal for me at the time.

Love them! But, oh do they stink! by iwfqgzin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 2 points3 points ago

I never had a problem the first few months, but everyone kept saying how stinky they get. Then I started marathon training and finally learned what everyone was talking about.

Actually the prices were rather low for custom jerseys. Cycling jerseys in general are pretty damn expensive, unless you get a generic blank one from a place like performancebike or REI .

National bike to work day by lskennedyin bicycling

[–]aaronbyard 0 points1 point ago

It's only a problem in the morning. I go to work at 6:30am so there's not really enough time/daylight to make it longer, but I'd do it if I had to. I do take the long way home around the lake most afternoons.

I salute you people. I'd do that if I could get away with it. I still do 98% of my commutes to work by bike, and rarely use my auto otherwise.

What's the best half-marathon training program? by JeffersonWasGingerin running

[–]aaronbyard 6 points7 points ago

I don't know what the "best" one is, but I know a lot of people that have had success with Hal Higdon's plans. There are others out there, but like I said, I don't know what the "best" one is. It all depends on your current level of fitness and what else you have going on in your life.

TIL: "Spokies" is launching a downtown OKC bike share program with solar powered kiosks by elquesograndein oklahoma

[–]aaronbyard 7 points8 points ago

I heard about this, but as someone who already bike commutes it means almost nothing to me. These things are probably the reason they worked on putting bike lanes and "sharrows" downtown where they weren't really needed, instead of putting in the bike paths they promised with one of the first 2 MAPS things. I don't remember specifically, but I know it was supposed to happen, but then the money wasn't there, according to my city councilman.

Sorry, I'm getting a little fired up. It's probably one of those things that was started with good intentions, but will fall just short of what they imagined. We're not a city that lives and works downtown. For me, and this might be a little selfish, but it makes more sense to put in a few paths or bike lanes so we can make it to downtown/bricktown safely by bike. Downtown itself is pretty easy to get around by bike because the speed limits are low and there's actually not all that much automobile traffic compared to other areas of the city.

Barefoot runners, how imperative is it to wash your feet right after running? by ceramicfiverin BarefootRunning

[–]aaronbyard 1 point2 points ago

I only wash my feet when I shower, which is not always right after a run. I might run in the morning, mow the yard barefoot, do whatever else I need to do, then shower right before bed. Though, after I mow the yard I rinse off with the hose to get a lot of the green off (and grass). I run on concrete and a bit of grass, and walk through a field and a park on my way to and from running. I've never had a problem that I'm aware of, and I'm sure I'd know by now.

There's a portal-able wall by that button to get the regular cube. It doesn't seem like that tractor beam is necessary. That's just from watching the video. I didn't play it. Still a pretty cool map.
