What do restaurants regularly do that annoys you? by cosine5000in AskReddit

Force your whole party to arrive before they seat you, especially if you have a reservation. You've already held a table for that amount of people, why they have to all be there before I can sit down?

It was called Death Comes to Town and it was classic KITH. I expected it to be a half baked version but the Kids still have it. I watched Brain Candy a long time ago and I don't recall liking it that much. I'm going to have to watch it again and reevaluate.

Suggestions on keeper league choices. by thei0155in fantasyfootball

[–]achaholic 0 points1 point ago

You didn't list your positions that you start which would impact this a bit.

You are leaning toward dropping over half your budget on 5 players - the two most expensive of which are coming off of a major surgeries. If you must, pick either AP or Charles but not both. Too much risk to dump 35% of your salary cap into those two, especially when you have 2 other solid RBs you can keep for cheaper.

My suggestion is Eli for $6; Ray Rice for $54, Pettigrew and/or Hernandez for $2, Turner for $37. If you can't use two TEs, keep DeSean or one of the risky RBs.

Personal accountability and self sufficiency 101. Too many kids with parents doing and deciding everything for them. No one is gonna wipe your ass or feel sorry for your predicament in the real world.

The Nutella container pisses me off to no end. Reddit, what are some things that irk you when they really shouldn't? by Shakennapoleonin AskReddit

[–]achaholic 2 points3 points ago

I agree with you as well. In fact, I probably like football and hockey just as much as soccer or baseball. But it grinds my gears when people talk about soccer being so boring due to lack of scoring or baseball being impossible to watch because of the pace. We share the exact same sentiment in that, even if you may not enjoy watching the sport, it should not discount its entertainment value for others.

I teach elementary school. My husband told me I do "too much" for my kids. What are the things you remember from elementary school that your teachers did? by metubialmanin AskReddit

[–]achaholic 0 points1 point ago

Not saying this is the case but perhaps you should look as his comment from a different angle.

As the husband of a teacher who often "does too much for her kids", I would urge you to look at how this extra effort for the kids is affecting your relationship with him? Are you not spending as much time together because you are doing these extra things? I know I can sometimes feel neglected by my wife because she is so involved with her work. I want her to succeed and make a difference but her drive to be a good teacher sometimes puts her role as a wife on the back burner.

Same deal with soccer. Just because you don't understand or appreciate the strategy, skills or intricacies of a sport doesn't mean its boring. Some people appreciate all those small details and others prefer to see high scoring or violent contact.

I have yet to see a child without a helicopter parent around be abducted, molested or otherwise tragically hurt. In fact, they seem to enjoy themselves and learning to be independent...but protection from irrational fears of unlikely events is more important.

Kristen Wiig... if you look closely every character she pays on SNL is her making "funny" noises or faces. No actual comedic talent involved.

Policemen of reddit, what do you actually want to hear when you pull someone over for speeding? by indubitablystrangein AskReddit

[–]achaholic 3 points4 points ago

Slightly off topic but relevant.

Not sure if it was this advice or luck that has gotten me out of the last 4 times I've been pulled over. The caveat here is that I've pretty much had a clean driving record for while but these stops have all been throughout my driving career.

Here is what I do if I get pulled over:

  • Pull over promptly. Turn off the engine and radio (or at least turn it down so you can't hear it)
  • Immediately place your hands high and visible (don't put your hands up or you'll look guilty as sin). I usually have my right arm/hand on the top of the steering wheel and my left leaning up against or out the driver's window. This lets the cop know where your hands are and puts him more at ease about approaching the vehicle
  • When the officer approaches, every sentence should end with a sir or ma'am.
  • When they ask for license and registration, tell them where you are going to get it and move slowly. Example: Yes, sir. It's in the glove box. or Yes ma'am, I have it in my wallet in my back pocket of my jeans. Again, this makes them feel more at ease since they know what you are doing and your intentions.
  • Keep your overall demeanor calm and try to make the stop as easy as possible for them. As Cartman would say "Respect his/her authoratee".

Each time I did these things, I walked away with a warning. Actually one time, my friend and I were caravanning to the beach and we both got pulled over. He blew his top and got a $200 ticket and I did this and got a warning.

My thoughts are that cops have heard all the stupid excuses and have pulled over every asshole who thinks they don't deserve a ticket. It's refreshing to find someone that is respectful and actively makes their job easier and safer. So as long as you don't get an asshole cop or did something so offensive they can't forgive it, you'll probably make out better following this advice.

Last night I was reminded blatantly of why I prefer trees to drinking. by Possum_Pendulumin eldertrees

[–]achaholic 11 points12 points ago

Pounding cheap beer at a college party is equivalent of burning joint after joint of stems, seeds and shake.

Alcohol can be just as relaxing, thought provoking and fun as trees. In fact, one of the things I enjoy most is sitting and chatting with friends while enjoying a nice single malt scotch and cigar. I find that with most things in life, quality over quantity leads to better experience. That and knowing your limits. You are just as liable to have a bad time taking too many bong rips as pounding too many beers.

I have a feeling if you were drinking a decent craft beer, wine or spirit at your own pace you would have had a different outlook on the night.

Life lessons come in all different levels. Not arguing that this could be an expensive one, if OP's friend is actually paying for school. I would hope if he is he would be taking it more seriously than he is.

My point being is that if his friend doesn't care enough to help himself, why should OP? Obviously OP appreciates the gravity of the situation. His friend knows he's on probation, knows he needs to be on time for the exam to avoid flunking out but by OP's own admission, he is too "lazy" to do what it takes to ensure it. When it's gone this far, the only way his friend will appreciate it is by reaping some consequences of his actions, which OP is helping him skirt.

Now granted I was in middle school when the song came out, but I really thought that OPP was Other People's Property, which was the only non-innuendo-ed explanation they gave in the lyrics.

It wasn't until late in high school I learned the what the 2nd P stood for.
