The Virgin Father --- Trent Arsenault has never had sex, but he's the father of 15 children – and counting. He's a well-paid tech worker, uses diet and exercise to maximise his sperm count, and he gives away his semen for free. The FDA don't like it by DrRichardCraniumin news

I thought about that too, but I think it would be very easy for people to politicize that argument - "What do you mean I can't raise a child? My standard of living is just fine!"

I had to water down the argument to make it more legalese and try to prevent it from being an us-versus-them thing.

Totally agree about the healthcare access - I even said (see comment thread) that it's a prerequisite for such a policy.

The end goal really is to alleviate poverty and misery. If there are gentler ways to go about it, I'm all for it.

It failed in deeply misogynistic agrarian communities, where people rely on children for farm labor...

This tool is not right for every country. To implement such a policy I think the following are minimum requirements:

  • 50%+ secular, scientifically literate population - you will never have a rational social discourse as long as the majority believes there is a magical sky man that gives souls to fetuses...

  • Completely unrestricted access to contraceptives, abortions and gynecological care - for obvious reasons.

  • Reasonable levels of economic equality. If you make parenting standards too high, it will encourage people to go "off the grid" to have kids, which will make the problem even worse.

I'm more concerned about the recipients - "broke, desperate women" are not exactly premium parenting material.

Personally, I think sooner or later, civilized countries need to start issuing parenting licenses, something like "Every woman is entitled to one child, and your eligibility for more children is judged by how well you provide for the first child."

This may seem draconian, but I would argue as follows - since every child born with a country gains citizenship automatically, and that citizenship entitles the child to government/collective resources, it is in the collective's best interest not to stretch those resources too thin and to discourage crappy parenting.

Obviously, there are all kinds of situations where you might end up with a child unexpectedly, but what about the second? The third? The fourth? At some point, procreating becomes irrational and arguably malicious. This is what such licenses would aim to prevent, as opposed to some slippery slope to eugenics that everyone is afraid of.

They do happen in a physical reality. The internet has replaced the sales clerks, not the business owners nor the costumers.

Most of this censorship bullshit boils down to obsolete middlemen trying desperately to capture the benefits of internet efficiency for themselves, even though they did nothing to create it - and in fact have fought very hard against it.

On one hand, what the hell kind of work permits employees to give topless massages to each other? On the other hand, your gf works there...

So... You may have a very skewed perspective on relationships and chastity (leaning heavily on the conservative side), while your girlfriend may be more leaning heavily on the liberal and socially extroverted side

While neither you nor her are really at fault here, you should seriously consider the fact that the two of you may not be socially/sexually compatible. It's a personality mismatch.

I would emphasize that the quality of your character has not changed and that you are very much still a moral and responsible human being (possible more so) and that you certainly don't expect anyone to deconvert with you but you can point them in the right direction if they are curious.

It's people like these that highlight the inconvenient truth that Islam provides sanctuary for degenerate rapists and killers while offering no positive morality that cannot be learned in a secular context.

Good people are good regardless of how their parents label them, and clinging to traditional banners despite the horrible evils associated with them gives YOU a bad name.

Active Duty Cop: "The war on drugs is a war on people. I did not get in law enforcement to destroy a person’s future because that person had marijuana or a pill in their pocket. Why would you want to destroy that person’s future and cause them great harm because of that? It’s not worth it.”’ by GonzoVeritasin politics

[–]anarkyinducer 6 points7 points ago

Wrong.

It's the assholes who take significant bribes from DRUG DEALERS and the PRISON INDUSTRY to keep drugs illegal (and thus far more profitable) that are to blame, not only for ruining the lives of recreational users, but also wasting law enforcement resources, encouraging violent crime and denying addicts medical treatment.

Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice by scientologist2in psychology

[–]anarkyinducer 1 point2 points ago

I think "oversimplified" is a better word than "extreme". Psychologically this makes perfect sense - everyone gets anxious to a degree when facing cognitively demanding tasks; the difference is that more intelligent people will succeed more often at such tasks, thereby alleviating the anxiety and less intelligent people will fail more often, leading to greater anxiety.

Over time, intelligent people will associate problem solving and learning with reward and will pursue education and exploration, while unintelligent people will seek stability and simplicity and react with fear and anxiety to anything that falls outside their very narrow "comfort zone"

Ugh... This type of bullshit rhetoric (teach the controversy, multiculturalism, etc...) is just modern day ignorance enforcement. Since the printing press began inoculating people against hard line dogma, the new tactic is to teach people that no one is smart enough to tell reality from bullshit or pass judgement on anti-social behavior.

The result is generation after generation of people lacking confidence in their own thinking and unwilling or unable to express disapproval of antiquated dogma, quack medicine, bullshit economic policy or blatant sociopathy.

Can you give some basic examples of what you mean by wildly different properties? That would help make sense of it.

Right now, it sounds like spin is quantum magnetism, with the number indicating number of magnetic poles... Is this way off?

Sorry to deviate from this discussion, but I really have a hole in understanding of this...

What exactly is "spin" and what does half integer versus whole integer imply?
