Anyone ever hunt squirrels with archery tackle or a crossbow? by dhelmet69in Hunting

[–]cvlrymedic 0 points1 point ago

I frequently hunt squirrels with my bow. I have no idea what it would be like with a crossbow though. With my bow I use G5 small game points. I shot one squirrel with a field point through the lungs and stuck it to a tree, it seemed like it took forever to die and didn't seem very humane. Shot another one with a regular 3 blade broadhead and ruined a bunch of meat. That's why I use the small game points. I do use a compound bow not a longbow or recurve and I won't take a small game shot further than 30-35 yards.

I took a few bites out of a heart from a deer that I had killed just minutes prior with a bow.

HAHAH, thanks for the facebook link. It gave me a good laugh. That guy is obviously pretty tough. He says he was in Afghan in '09 with an SF group, funny thing, I work in the same building as the SF group with the biggest presence in Afghanistan in 2009. Wonder if they know this guy...

There is such a strong stigma associated with mental illness for those still wearing the uniform. I try and tell my guys all the time, there is nothing wrong with getting help. When you break your leg you go to the DR, you don't fix it yourself. Your brain is no different. Everyday I hear how much of a pussy someone is that has mental issues. I also hear "How could they have PTSD, they didn't see shit!" Hate to break it to you guys, doesn't matter where you went, what you saw, or what you did, anyone can get PTSD.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event that results in psychological trauma. This event may involve the threat of death to oneself or to someone else, or to one's own or someone else's physical, sexual, or psychological integrity, overwhelming the individual's ability to cope.

Doesn't matter how much you left the wire, how many missions you ran, just the fact that you were sent thousands of miles away from your friends and family to an unknown place and surrounded by people that wanted you dead is enough to fuck with your head enough that when you get back, you very well could suffer from PTSD.

People also need to realize that they will change after a deployment. You don't just go away for a length of time and come back like nothing happened. If someone that has known you for years tells you that you have changed and that you need help 9 times out of 10 they are right. I have been there myself, I was that guy, my wife said it. I called her a bitch, a liar, a cunt, a slut. I was heavy into alcohol. It took me barricading myself inside my home with a firearm to realize, holy fuck, she was right, I really do need help. I was that tough guy, I had been in multiple fire fights, I got blown up, I saw dead bodies, I saved lives. I was the ultimate bad ass, there was no way I could have PTSD. Boy was I wrong. I'm just glad that I was able to realize it before I seriously injured myself or someone else.

Go down to your local vet center, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, get on military one source you can chat online with a counselor. Please, what ever you do, no matter how bad it gets, don't ever take your own life. Suicide is a long term solution to a short term problem. There are people that care about you, people that love you. Hell, if you ever wore the uniform, I care about you. You are my brothers and sisters in arms you are like family to me and deep down I love each and every one of you like you are my own.

Anything still bug you now that you are out? by Office_Zombiein Military

[–]cvlrymedic 2 points3 points ago

Not quite what I said. I never said they shouldn't be corrected. When correcting someone though, especially in public, there is a right way and wrong way to do it. Jumping someones ass in public is not at all the right way and makes the military look even worse than the person with the fucked up uniform or fucked up action. The person making the correction can very easily pull someone off to the side and politely correct them. If in turn the person that is fucked up is a douche bag, feel free to jump their shit.

25+ year old/medic/army/e-4

told our cadre while in training he was the battalions head medic tasked with retraining all the other medics in the battalion.

19 year old/forward observer/army/e-2

mortar landed outside the impact zone and didn't detonate, he walked the 3ish km to where it landed, picked it up, and walked it back to the OP.

unknown age/mp/army/e-6

We had several local national casualties strapped to the hoods and backs of our vehicles, we were running lights and sirens on the FOB taking the emergency route to the CSH. We had alerted all the proper authorities of our arrival. All of a sudden we had an MP vehicle come behind us with lights and sirens and proceed to try and pull us over for speeding. We didn't slow down until we got to the CSH, upon arrival we dropped off the casualties, I briefed the doctors and did my little medic deal, and here comes the E6 demanding 'Where the fuck is the punk ass that authorized those speeds'. I happen to be one that saw him, I was covered in blood, death, and not in the mood for bullshit. I was just an e-4 at the time but I was determined to make this e-6 my bitch, his uniform was perfect, he had no idea what it was like outside the wire. I stand at parade rest as he delivers what he thinks is the best ass chewing of his life, he pulls out his little ticket book with a smug look on his face. Then I let him have it, I couldn't tell you what I said, but I can tell you I was so enraged with this fucks attitude that I didn't even raise my voice, I let him have it in that cool, calm, collected, serial killer type voice. By this point a large crowd started to gather. I hadn't noticed the crowd and what I really hadn't noticed was the 2 star general standing front row for the ass chewing I was throwing back at this e-6. The e-6 did notice the general though and started to smile, after I was done ranting and raving I noticed the general as well and realized how fucked I was. Little did I know the general heard everything starting with the original radio call explaining how I, the medic, was trying to treat 8 casualties and we were coming into the FOB lights and sirens, the general was also right behind the mp vehicle and followed us all the way to the CSH. The general stepped in, took control of the situation, sent my team on our way and told the e-6 to find his chain of command and meet him back in the generals office. A few weeks later we saw the e-6, as an e-3, checking ids at the gate.
