You're right, it didn't seem like a rhetorical question, so I'll spot you some negligible weight. Without more, you're assuming an error hastily, as I see it to distinguish yourself as one who is more perceptive of errors than others. I think it's funny you believe I believe you think it's funny.

People avoid the Examiner not because it is prevalent but because it is handed out at the Metro entrances (which incidentally entails a quasi-homeless figure thrusting the paper in front of you as you enter the escalator) and because it is disreputable. You might infer the latter, for the logical sequence is completed by the inference that the paper is disreputable, which not coincidentally is how I answered the OP. Capiche? By analogy, if I were to say, "the dog is black," I might then simply say, "the dog is hard to see because it is standing in front of a blackboard." You're a little quick on the draw and end up forcing a square peg into a round hole. (BTW got any essays to help me unmix my metaphors?) It's okay though. It is amusing. Just a thought. Really. Firstly, it may indicate that redditors don't read it, which may have corollary significance to him. Basically, you want to showcase your intelligence but disguise it as jolly helpfulness. However, you are not self-aware to pull it off.

Today, The Examiner is handed out at the Metro in the morning and has a dedicated bin along with the others in the city. Consequently, people actively avoid it. To wit, some even have signs on their doors that read "PLEASE! NO EXAMINER!"

Unless you mean to belittle me by that essay suggestion, I think "your sentence was too long" would send the message, but that wouldn't showcase to "random people" the nub fodder you read.

No, I got that. You shouldn't call it random though, unless you're in a sorority house. When no one reading and commenting on a hot-button article posted to the News subsection of a popular news aggregation website heavily-trafficked by opinionated and outspoken people voices an opinion about an oft-linked-to website that is also a widely-circulated newspaper in the capital city of the United States of America, that silence can be meaningful and sufficient for a purpose.

Poop may start at ingestion, but it is a part of my body until I deposit it in a toilet, at which point it becomes my property. Just because it sits in a toilet independently does not make it any less a part of my body. I'm gay and I believe context should mean more than word choice if someone's using "gay" or "homosexual." Some people are prickly by nature, and some have specific, personal aversions. Those people, I wouldn't generalize from them, and it sounds like the offended people from your conversation were in this minority. Of course, some words are somewhat inherently offensive, such as "faggot" and so on, although faggot can be funny. Louis CK had a funny bit on the word faggot, and it rang true for me. Some people, gay or straight, fit some definition we all have of faggot that has nothing to do with sexuality. Bottom line, it's about more than words; some people love pity and giving people grief. Fuck those people.
