Let me rephrase: How would you spend $200 on shoes? by notargiacomoin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Do you need something for winter? I mean, if you've already got brown boots, get some nice wool socks and you're set.

If I had all of those shoes, I'd probably get some mocs or loafers, but neither of those is really meant for cold weather.

Which watch for casual wear? by Chris952in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

I like this one a lot. Seiko's a pretty good brand. If you want sheer versatility, a watch with slip-thru lugs and a few NATO bands in different colors is probably your best bet. The Timex Weekender is the most oft-touted one on MFA. There are probably better options, but I don't know of any offhand.

LL Bean Canvas Hiking Shoe. Yay or nay? by dean939in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 9 points10 points ago

They're okay. I wouldn't wear them, but they're not like Skechers-bad or anything. If you like them, go for it.

edit: They look a lot better on the L.L.Bean website. I kinda like them actually.

Smart: the wine equivalent to beer/pop holders... by dragonworthyin pics

reddit's reaction to this comment is embarrassing. You provided a source, you should be at the top of the page. But because some idiots are butthurt about what you spent your money on, you're barely above 0.

I wonder what the reaction would be if someone said "$500 for a PS3? No thanks."

Need to wear Steel-Toes to work. Accompanying dress? by cjv89in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

I'd say chambray over OCBD, but the Chippewas and duck pants are good options.

Uniqlo Sees Room for Growth in the U.S. - NYTimes.com - planning to open 20-30 stores a year for the next 8 years! by madforpancakesin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

How's the fit on it? Fairly slim? Is it short at all?

I'm 6'3" so I'm concerned the sleeves might not be quite long enough on a medium, but a large might be too big in the body unless it's got a fairly slim cut.

Hello MFA! I found these Puma shoes that I had lost 2 years ago. Turns out they were in the attic, in a box. Are they any good? Which colours would go well with it? by PanicPronein malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

They're kinda ugly, but they're brown so they'll go with pretty much anything. Dark denim, chinos, etc. I don't think they'll clash with much.

I'll ask this here in the hopes that someone might see it rather than posting a new thread:

Does anyone have experience with their linen blazer?

I've got a wedding coming up in June that I want to look nice for, and I'm thinking about ordering it via suddenlee, but I don't wanna dive in head first.

Madras jacket y/n? by 401klaserin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

Fit is solid. It looks a bit odd in the side shot but I assume that's just the angle and the way you're standing. The jacket itself is pretty cool, but don't go crazy with it. It's definitely a "once in a while" piece.

Thought on these Puma's for casual wear by mentosfreshin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Moc toe + open lacing on sneakers is such an awkward, weird trend. I've been seeing it everywhere lately and it just doesn't look good. They're not terrible, but you can definitely do better.

Kinda like these shoes from penguin. Thoughts? by DickReckardin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

The shape is alright, but white wingtips really are tremendously unversatile. They're one of those pieces where, if you're unsure about it, you won't be able to pull it off. You have to know exactly how to wear them if you're going to wear them. If you have your heart set on white shoes, consider some white bucks or saddle shoes instead.

Penguin shoes are okay, but for the price you can find better quality elsewhere.

Is there such a thing as a good fake tan? by Make3in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

You could try a very mild bronzer, but truth-be-told I've never seen an artificial tan that looked legitimate, especially on someone with an otherwise light complexion. You can kind of just tell that they're not supposed to be tan. Like how a white person in black face never actually looks like a black person. The skin tone combined with the features and everything just doesn't look genuine.

Blazer fit check, please? by c0burnin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

The shoulders are too large and it flairs out oddly around your hips. Not a flattering cut and not a great fit.

First MFA post. Opinions on the length of these two shorts? by lifeincity17in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 2 points3 points ago

Not covering your knee, landing on your knee. Your knees should never be completely covered by shorts.

edit: They're also too baggy, regardless of the length. Hemming and slimming them is a fairly trivial endeavor, so it might be worthwhile if they're expensive shorts. Otherwise it's probably best to just return them.

I'm looking for a casual watch. Will the Weekender with a metal band do fine? by FreshIneptin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Yeah that's a nice-looking watch. Good deal at that price, too.

Looking for a pair of brown wingtips to wear casually, what does MFA think about these? by Clephtisin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 3 points4 points ago

These in burgundy are about ten times better and $15 cheaper. Bed Stu is shit quality and those wingtips are ugly as sin. They look like sneakers that tried to fuck a wingtip and had like a weird mixed-race baby.

How's this for both a casual or dress watch MFA? by engagekagein malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

It looks fine. But I don't think it's the ideal watch to wear as a dress watch.

Could you critique what I wore to my (relatively informal) prom? by mikybee93in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I'd say you should always wear one. Even if it's just a white cotton square fold, it's better to have something there than nothing. It breaks up the monotony of the front of the jacket a bit, and just overall makes you more interesting to look at. White cotton/linen will go with pretty much anything, so as long as you've got one of those, you can always default to it.

Skinny tie questions by scwubbybubblesin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Oh, yeah. As long as you have a jacket it'll be fine. A blazer is probably better than the peak lapeled one.

Skinny tie questions by scwubbybubblesin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Honestly I think your best bet is to wear the jacket, but wear a more normal knot. That one is better, but a windsor would be better still. A tie without a jacket will look worse than a jacket with a goofy knot, though. So wear the jacket, use whatever knot you want, but my recommendation is a standard windsor.

Is my hair going to affect the way my job interview goes? by andersonb47in malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Comb it to the side, bro, it'll be fine. I have a similar haircut and I just comb it to the side and it looks fine. I get complimented on it regularly. If you're real worried you could have an inch or so taken off and just kinda wear it however, but I honestly think just combing it down and to the side will be fine. Try it out and take a picture for feedback.

Skinny tie questions by scwubbybubblesin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 0 points1 point ago

Nah, I'd even advise you to use caution with narrow ties. I'm 6'3" ~210 and skinny ties are too small for me, so you should definitely avoid them.

If you want to go for a more casual, less-stuffy option than a big fat 3.5" silk tie, you could get a wool, cotton or linen tie. Or a silk knit, those are good too.

Skinny tie questions by scwubbybubblesin malefashionadvice

[–]definitelynotaspy 4 points5 points ago

The knot's a bad choice for that outfit. White shirt, dark grey suit with peak lapels = formal. Atlantic knot = informal, fancy, flashy, etc. It doesn't work in combination. Especially with such a dark tie. You did an okay job tying it, but it's just not suitable.

The tie's too narrow for the lapels as other people have said. Skinny ties are overdone and look bad on most dudes, anyway. Narrow ties are fine, but truly skinny ties (as this one looks to be) are hard. And they're also super trendy and contemporary and rarely appropriate with a suit.
