I guess the "War On Drugs" is getting a little more literal in AZ. [x-post from r/trees] by wellactuallyhmmin Libertarian

50 meter kill radius I believe, max effective range 30,000 meters. Maybe not the high explosive rounds, but illumination and especially white phosphorus rounds would be very useful against them weed smokers.

Is war never the solution? When is it OK to violate the sovereignty of another nation? by Occultistin EndlessWar

[–]digitalcaveman 1 point2 points ago

Diplomacy falls short way to often, it's easy to start a war when you are not the one fitting it. That pisses me off to no end, can't win an argument? Send a bunch of kids to kill and die.

Saddam didn't not have WMDs when we invaded, which was the reason for us going to war in the first place. We did supply him with weapons when he was fighting the Iran.

It is impossible to know what North Korea would be like if we had not gone to war on that peninsula. I'm not expert that's for sure, but I don't think a war made life any better for them.

Is Iraq a better place now, maybe, we did kill or displace 20% of the population, ask them how nice it is now. I don't think we were the good guys, killing kids with artillery is not something a good guy would do, my gun section killed more kids than enemy combatants. I couldn't help but think while I was there, that if someone invaded my country, I would be an insurgent planting road side bombs and killing as many invaders as I could.

War is a lot more complicated than rape in an alley, I'd have no problem killing a rapist in an alley, but going into a war that innocent people will be killed in really complicates things.

I would say if you ever get to the point of having to invade a country you have already screwed up. People say WWII was an ok thing, but if people would have done more to prevent WWI, WWII could have also been prevented.

Saddams Iraq could have been prevented if the US had not armed him with some nasty WMDs, North Korea might have been prevented if the US had not gone to war there. I don't know much about Kosovo, but I'm sure that could have been prevented too. There need to be a lot more done to prevent conflicts.

I don't think we should have invaded Iraq, I spent 2004 there with the army, I don't think we did a very good job. We killed so many innocent people, it's really hard to fight for something you are not in total agreement with, I felt like a lot of guys just wanted to get home and didn't give a shit about the mission, so it was easy to justify the elimination of all perceived threats, even if its a kid with a backpack. We became the oppressors, I wish we could have been the good guys, but we were not. I don't think we made the place any better, safer or free.

So to answer your question, Can wars that are not strictly in self-defense ever be justified? I don't know for sure, it's so damn complicated, but I don't think so. "There never was good war, or a bad peace"

[–]digitalcaveman 5 points6 points ago

They gave me a medical discharge option because of a shoulder issue, I took that, probably would have pursued conscientious objector status if I had to. Refusing to deploy or going AWOL are other options, but you can't really just quit.

I was in the army, deployed to Iraq, got out as soon as I could.

I quit my job after that because they contracted with United Dynamics, and other weapons makers. The same companies that manufactured the weapons we used on civilians in iraq.

I'm disabled, should I just quit my job? by ericlarsen2in Veterans

[–]digitalcaveman 2 points3 points ago*

This! Resubmit, they screwed me my first time through too, got a higher rating the second time. If you are having issues that keep you from working you need to be compensated. Make sure they know that your back pain is keeping you from working, or doing certain jobs, finding a job is hard enough without a disability. You can include a personal statement to the evaluation board if you feel they are not getting all the info they need.

Also, if the guy said you wouldn't be lifting and moving stuff all day, and you have to do that, then talk to him about that. He said you wouldn't be overusing your back, that would seem like an important precondition, if they lied about that, quit.

I road to alaska from minnesota 2 years ago, Jasper National Park was amazing. Also Liard hot springs is by far the best hot springs I have ever been too, great place to take a few rest days and soak in the springs. I picked up a copy of the milepost, milepost.com, lots of info for a Canadian Road trip.

In California Death Valley is fantastic, if you are into dual sporting at all Mojave national preserve has a ton of back country dirt roads.

I spent a little over $1500 on the '91 and put about $500 in parts into it. I don't think I should have payed as much as I did, I just really wanted that bike. If you have the patients there are some well priced ones out there, inspect it well, people do thrash those bikes.

I love my DR650s, rode my '91 to alaska from minnesota during the summer of 2010. Recently got an '06 also, now the '91 is a project/thrash bike. They are simple to work on (oil cooled single), light enough for the trails, hold a good speed on the interstate, relatively cheap, and you can abuse the hell out of them. I'd just recommend something newer than a '96, that is when they redesigned so most accessories will fit anything that year or after.

edit: I got a bigger sprocket for highway use, helps a lot.

Don't know why you are being down voted, I spend 2004 in Iraq. Diagnosed with PTSD and depression, given drugs, several anti-depressants. Stopped those, drank lots and smoked a lot of pot. The chemicals didn't help. Admitting what I/we did was wrong and trying to learning to live with it is the only thing that has helped me any.

War is my wedge issue. When we stop killing people all over the world for no good reason, we can worry about all those other things.

Maybe our murderous foreign policy should be the most important issue.

I am sorry for the role I played in Fallujah | As a US marine who lost close friends in the siege of Fallujah in Iraq seven years ago, I understand that we were the aggressors by Occidentalistin EndlessWar

[–]digitalcaveman 4 points5 points ago

The truth can be hard to face, knowing you willing participated in atrocities can make living with yourself quite difficult. The american propaganda machine doesn't help much either.

Just recently, after about 7 years, one of my fellow iraq vets is finally able to admit what we did was wrong. It's easier to live in denial, than live with regret.

You sounds like me during my first semester, I didn't find any friends anywhere. Then I just started trying random things around campus, didn't help much, but I did find a few. I ended up dropping out for a while, then found a different school and a different program where I felt a lot more comfortable. Got a degree and better grades than ever before in my life. I'm not telling you to drop out, but if it gets bad enough a move might not be a bad idea.

What is going on with me? by [deleted]in depression

I hope the blood test tells you something.

I usually get happiness out of exercising

I am the same way, often, I just fall out of it and it has negative affects on my mental health and I can feel depression returning. Which does not help my motivation to work out. I went for a lonely walk in the woods for the first time in a while, it took me a while it convince myself I should or even had the energy to do it, but I felt the best I have in a while. A walk helps me a lot, might be worth trying. Best of luck to you.

edit: I am far from a mental health expert, that's just what helps me
