Agreed. His advice was essentially him expressing how he got over some mental crutch that he leaned on. One does not have to remove a drum from the kit to refrain from hitting it. Also, he's sloppy as hell, which is fine for hipster indie music or whatever, but it definitely contributes to his feeling that drumming is like a marathon or biking or whatever. The best drummers can play forever without getting tired. He's giving preference to showmanship over economy of motion. I can't get behind that.

It is a fallacy that some people are just "born with it." However, people learn different things at different speeds. Some are more adept learning drumming, for example. Nobody starts out good. Just about any instrument can be mastered through practice. You just gotta put in your 10,000 hours.

Never seen anything like that. Is it really just two drums on top of each other or do some drums come like that?

I like how they don't require drum hardware. They are free-standing rack/floor toms. I imagine it makes a bigger sound, too.
