HUSL: a human-friendly alternative to the HSL color space by boroninein programming
[–]duopixel 5 points6 points7 points 5 days ago
Find any color picker, say, this one:
http://www.eyecon.ro/colorpicker/
Move through the hue axis (the rainbow colored bar) and the color changes. If you observe carefully, it seems that some colors are brighter and some colors are darker. Since you are only adjusting hue, brightness is supposed to stay the same.
This happens because most color pickers paint a computational representation of color, not what the human eye actually perceives.
This is something designers do all the time by intuition, if you take a look at the NBC logo! you will notice that the colors are not just variations of H in HSL, they are carefully chosen keep perceptual uniformity (which HUSL attempts).

Don't mind the naysayers, this is really awesome work if you actually understand what it does.
I created http://color.method.ac, and I was trying to use LCH wheel instead of HSV, but I couldn't overcome the out-of-gamut problems. It looks like HUSL would've been exactly what I was looking for.
There's so many applications I can think about, I'll sure make extensive use of it!
Would you guys be interested in an AMA with Massimo Vignelli? by special2plumsfor1in Design
[–]duopixel 4 points5 points6 points 6 days ago
If I recall correctly NY Transit got in touch with Unimark (Vignelli's studio) for a unification of all the signage in the subway, but they couldn't afford a full consultation project, so Unimark just delivered signage examples and NY Transit's shop would produce and deliver them.
Vignelli's mocks had a line at the top to mark where the metal holding bar meets the signage, and the signage shop at NY Transit interpreted it as a graphical element. This picture makes it clear: http://watermarked.cutcaster.com/cutcaster-photo-100183695-NYC-Subway-Sign.jpg

About to graduate and looking for some guidance by heymanmanin web_design

If you want to pursue a web design career I'd recommend tackling a couple of personal web projects for the summer. Open up a blog and make a website about whatever passion you have. Right now your portfolio is very graphic design oriented and you want to add some web projects.
The "basics" of web design are often not enough, there is real depth into good front-end skills. Taking a look at your code it is obvious you used Dreamweaver and sliced images to achieve hover effects, which is not bad for a graphic design portfolio but for a web designer it's a bit of a faux pas.
A good idea would be to delve a bit more into front-end stuff (javascript, css and html) and forget about PHP for the time being. Good designers with front-end skills are in demand, nobody will expect you to know PHP though it does provide a nice bonus.
Anyone around for a meetup? Moving to Playa in 3 weeks by IrishWillyin playa

Sound like we were looking for the exact same thing! Good deals we found around the area:
At 10th Ave & 12th st there's two 2br apartments for $8,000 pesos per month. Not listed online, but this guy is sharing one of those apartments http://www.andale.mx/articulo/w8dm-rento-cuarto-excelente-cond-av-10-esq-cl-12-92544.html
There's also these apartments in a more quiet street for $8,500 http://www.andale.mx/articulo/w8dm-villa-violeta-8844.html?keywords=&_pagi_pg=43&
If you are willing to go further out from downtown (but still within a walking distance), we used to live at Duende del Mar, http://duendedelmar.com. Long term lease is around $7,500 1br and $8,500 2br. It is a very nice place and it includes cable and internet.
We also saw some nice apts in the $11,000 to $13,000 range between the 5th and 1st (one block from the beach).
saved my kids life? 4 out of 5 stars. by spinrsxin funny

Four star reviewer states that it was the best game he had played in his life. He also made it clear that the only reason he was giving it four stars was because the developers might get complacent and produce crappy stuff in the future, and he wanted to keep them motivated.

I was planning on shouting out to see if anyone was willing to meet up for Reddit's Global Meetup Day, so hell yeah! I'll put up the event on reddit gifts.
Best place to search for apartments in Playa is http://andale.mx. But A LOT of stuff is not listed anywhere, they just put up a sign that says "se renta" so it's better if you reserve a hostel for a week or so and just walk around calling numbers. Beware of real estate agents as they put up signs in all properties, even if they are not available, just to get ahold of you.
What kind of apartment are you looking for? My girlfriend and me just went through an extensive apartment search and I might be able to pinpoint specific apartments that might interest you.

If they are substractive colors they should mix as such, thus C ∩ M = blue, M ∩ Y = red, Y ∩ K = brown.

Comienzan las deportaciones de mexicanos desde Canadá by mhidein mexico
[–]duopixel 0 points1 point2 points 2 months ago

How to design for retina displays (points vs pixels) by Snookermanin web_design
[–]duopixel 5 points6 points7 points 2 months ago
I wouldn't recommend going retina-resolution for a website. The resolution has quadrupled but mobile bandwidth is still the same. While on mobile people want quick answers.
As spoonmonkey mentioned, it is a 960x720 screen that acts like a 480x 360 screen. You can serve high-res media specifically for the device through media queries.
Still there's one thing you can do: for vector like artwork you can use svg instead of bitmap. It will look very sharp on a retina display without having to change anything. But this won't work on older versions of android (sigh).
