I have not... it was never something I really had any desire to do; I originally wanted to work in law-enforcement as a career (still do, although jobs are scarce), and realized a long time ago that weed could easily limit my job opportunities.

SO TRUE! Well-said. Thanks.

That was incredibly well-said. I feel exactly the same way, it's hard for me to support the idea of someone dulling their mind voluntarily and giving in to a substance. I feel that being sharp and aware are two very ideal qualities in this world and the SO and I just seem to have different priorities and ideas of what is important.

It sounds like you did the right thing in your situation! Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

My SO does have many great qualities, so I guess it's ultimately a matter of if the good outweigh the not-so-good. -- or the ones I don't agree with.

Thanks for the resources. I've done plenty of googling and research. Some of the aforementioned 'facts' about alcohol however are somewhat inconsistent; it's a bit of russian roulette -- the outcomes can be different for everyone. *The same thing could be said about weed.

Overall alcohol as a whole does seem to be more of a concern. However, for an immediate concern to me and those around me, I do not see it as much of one.

The compromise is me bending my personal preferences on weed to remain in the relationship. He has indicated that he is going to smoke, regardless of how I feel about it. * it's not exactly a compromise I guess, since he's playing no part in it.

you're absolutely right. I can't necessarily group him into that category without anything backing it up. I need to give it a chance. thanks for the insight.

however, if him smoking is ultimately a dealbreaker for me, I will not be "the one with the problem." -- i actually see that as sort of an oxymoron, since I'm currently trying to compromise and make things work.

Good point, but I don't think it's reasonable to compare the two -- if alcohol was the same as weed, then this whole post would be futile. I can drink in front of a cop (responsibly of course), but weed is pretty much not accepted at all (thus far). They don't drug test for alcohol when you're getting a job, right? I guess I see it as irresponsible (at this point) because I feel there are more negative outcomes attached to it.

It sounds a little crazy but the legality issue of it takes up quite a bit of my annoyance on the subject.
