You should definitely check out Aly B's Bakery (www.alybsbakery.com) on Southfield right by Youree. I've had a number of items from there and they've all been fantastic.

Sorry, nothing fancy like that - we got an EMC to replace these. The 2 SAN units are both made by Promise, a very popular manufacturer. One is a vTrak M210i (http://www.promise.com/support/download_file.aspx?rsn=149&m=205®ion=en-US), and the other is a VessRAID 1840i (http://www.promise.com/support/download_file.aspx?rsn=819&m=205®ion=en-US). The vTrak is EOL'd, but works perfectly. It's an 8-disk unit with dual GbE and would be perfect for low- to mid-demand applications (great for entry level virtualization!). The VessRAID is a much beefier unit, 12-disk, supports SATA traditional disks and SSDs, and SAS disks as well. Quad-port GbE, and an expansion port for additional disk enclosures if you need more. Both units have dual removable power supplies. The servers are rackable, and will come with the appropriate rack rails as well. They are HP DL360 G5 1U rackmount servers, and each of them has 2x quad core Xeon CPUs, 32GB DDR2 RAM installed, a quad-port gigabit NIC in addition to the integrated dual-port gigabit NIC, and dual power supplies. If you have any other questions or even want to see the hardware in person, let me know.

Fiber Optic coming for residential? by fllowersin shreveport
[–]fonsui 0 points1 point2 points 17 days ago
Possibly! I just called Comcast today like I do every month and the agent said that there is a 50/15 plan available for $116/mo! Needless to say, I signed up. I suppose I'll see if this is real once I get home from work today.

That's not entirely too far, I'll check them out. Thanks! Also, the place next to George's is not a place I've tried, but they're also close, so I might at some point.

Comcast (like all cable companies) uses fiber optic cable for it's infrastructure. Fiber goes to the local node (FTTN), and from there you get coax to the individual residence. If it is Comcast that is laying cable right now, it is for replacing the original copper infrastructure that Time Warner built when they built this market out, before Comcast bought the market from them. The goal of the upgrade is to enable the use of DOCSIS 3.0, which is the current revision of the cable modem spec and will enable transfer rates of 100mbits/sec and beyond (though I sincerely doubt that the initially available bandwidth plans will offer such speeds). The current infrastructure only supports DOCSIS 1.0, which is why the fastest we can get right now in Shreveport is 12mbits/sec. Over in Bossier, where Suddenlink has the cable franchise, DOCSIS 3.0 was implemented in early 2010, which is the reason why people there can get plans that offer 50mbits/sec. Comcast has already deployed DOCSIS 3.0 networks in many/most of it's markets; Shreveport just lags behind because of the cost of the project due to the size of the market combined with the age of the assets currently in place. The good news is that once DOCSIS 3.0-based plans are available, we should see much more bandwidth for much less money (per mbit/sec) than we currently pay.
If it turns out that it is AT&T laying the cable, then it is in fact likely that it is to support their U-Verse service, which is similar to cable in that it is also a fiber-to-the-node model, except that instead of coax from the node to the residence, it's ADSL from the node to the residence. In my long and unpleasant relationship with both AT&T and ADSL independently, neither has proven to be an enjoyable or even satisfactory experience. The rate plans for U-Verse are similar to that of traditional residential ADSL; not positioned very well at all to compete with new fiber-fueled cable networks and FTTH deployments such as Verizon FiOS.
As for Verizon FiOS, we will likely never see that service in this area, since Verizon has no franchise rights in the state of Louisiana for anything except wireless service - they even use AT&T for their wireless network's backhaul here.

He got out because the back yard gate was open, and we live in Highland, near St. Mark's. It was around 3pm yesterday (Saturday the 14th).
