no. While this distinction can be important to make in the case of literature, film, and other forms of art (though there are many who argue convincingly that the moral content of an artist must figure into one's evaluation of the art) I hardly think you can be a "fan" of someone who is so morally corrupt. especially in the context of sports, being someone's fan, and the hero worship that goes along with that, should not be compatible with the object of that worship having reprehensible character

Interesting answer, and while I disagree with bits of it I think you for taking the time to write it out. I have a question that's really more about curiosity than anything else. What is the place for children that happen out of wedlock in the mormon religion? It seems unsupportable that god would condemn a child because its biological parents weren't married, yet I can't see such a child fitting into a divine family unit. And given the number of gay couples that adopt (or would love to were they not unable) what distinguishes the love present in these family units less worthy than one started biologically?

I didn't mean to imply that the OP himself was in any way bigoted, and if you read my question, I don't. OP has stated a few times in his responses that he's pretty liberal and not born into the church, so I don't think referring to the LDS Church (which, to be sure, shares the company of several other religious sects) as bigoted necessarily predicates that description of him.

That being said, anyone who's had to console a mormon friend about to be sent to a correctional facility or because their own parents view them with disgust (as I have) might have a hard time referring to the Mormon church in more flowery language
