I'm considering a 1970-1980 Honda CB for my first bike. Is this a bad idea? Any insight is greatly appreciated. by guacamole23in motorcycles

Damn, you know your CB's! This is very helpful. Thank you.

Right on!

I've liked the older CB's for a long time not, so I'm thinking it'd be a bike that I'd plan on keeping for a duration.

I appreciate your experience, and the more I hear, the more I'm sold on the bike.

Thanks again!

Well, it sounds like I'm on the right track. The CB550 Four is in the lead at this point. I have no reason to need more power than that (younger me would slap older me if he heard me say that), and I'm sure the lower weight will be easier to tame as well.

Valve adjustments with the cover on is some kind of awesome, not that the valves will need adjusting often I'm assuming.

I've heard some people say that the low weight of the CB550 compared to the CB750 makes it less desirable for longer distance, but I'm thinking that won't be an issue. Let me know if you have an opinion on the matter.

Thanks for the advice!

The disc can squeak if there are oils/dirt on the braking surface. First, I'd clean the disc with rubbing alcohol, and if that doesn't fix it, I'd rough up the surface of the pads with high grit sand paper. Always be careful to not touch the disc when removing/installing the wheel. Hope this helps.

I guess I was just unaware that America had such a reputation.

I can't say I agree with that one. I have a hard time comparing the cheap lagers (Budweiser, Coors, Kokanee), but as far craft brewing goes, the US has it (over 1700 breweries). I believe that brewpubs are still illegal in some areas in Canada.

Do you guys make fun of the 19 and 20 year old Americans who come across the border to drink legally? I used to do that.

I'm pretty sure spraying somebody with pepper spray or people mace is illegal too when not in self defense. I don't think you're going to get in trouble for bear macing somebody who's trying to rape you.

I feel like I've done all that I can to help my pup through her fearful aggression. Do I need to put her down? I am at my wits end, please help. by guacamole23in Dogtraining

Well according to that article, I got a nervebag for a dog. She exhibits most of the signs, but pretty much only at home. When she's out and about shes happy, great off leash, nice to other dogs, and shows no aggression toward strangers walking by (she'll growl sometimes when they reach down to pet her on the street). Now, the question is how bad is she really, and how close to "normal" can she become.

Thank you for your response and care.

Thank you for your support and insight. One million sympathies to you friend, but as hard as it was, it sounds like you did everything in your power to help Meekrob. He was extremely lucky to have you, as most people wouldn't have put in the time and effort to make his life a good one.

Meekrob and Ellie sound quite similar, but after reading his full story I must say that I have gained some hope for Ellie.

Luckily, Ellie has only snapped without warning a few times, and not at all since I stopped crating her. She generally gives lots of warning. She is very rarely aggressive toward other dogs; she generally ignores them or plays with them (un-neutered males get her a little angry). Shes great with cats and small animals; in fact, she very gently wrestles with our cat every day. The only time she shows aggression is when she receives too much attention from people. Not only touch, but she gets nervous and sometimes growls when people call for her, looking her directly in the eye.

Once I have the money (unemployed), I am going to hire the most qualified behaviorist I can find to evaluate Ellie and hopefully this is something we can overcome. As you felt for Meekrob, I feel for Ellie. She's my best friend, and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do everything in my power to help her.

Thank you again for your words.

Personally, I really don't like that tattoo. I dislike it enough to comment on it in fact. But hey, what do I know? Im just the 23rd and final formula of the worlds tastiest dip/topping for tortilla chips and other delights.
