How feasible would it be to put a large, man-made object (such as a space station) into orbit around the sun? by soylentgringoin askscience

Doesn't velocity play a role in the distance as well?

Will a ball thrown against the rotation of the Earth travel farther? by Date_Knightin askscience

In the early days of rockets launched to space the rockets were launched with the earths rotation because it doesn't lose that velocity

I wish ATL would key in on that first pitch fastball. Fastball seems like the only pitch that was getting across for a strike.

Why can't we feel the movement of the earth ? by Stav3ng3rin askscience

Yeah. One effect you can see from rotation is the bulge around Earth's equator.

I always read AR as just an acronym of assault rifle, not necessarily referring to a particular kind.

Earth has a very low angular speed compared to a jet or something. Consider an aircraft that spins once per 24h, would you expect to notice any rotational effects?

I had one of those too. It would give me 45 secs of pre-loaded song in case it skipped. I remember barely opening the top and stopping it when I was little, it kept playing. Shit was magical.

Phil, I don't have a question but I just wanted to let you know how big of an impact your website had on me! I found badastronomy one day while I was googling for a list of movies to watch sometime around 2004 or 2005 around the age of 15. It brought me to your list of movie reviews and I read every one of them that night. Ever since then I have been a huge fan of physics and science in general. Thank you very much Mr. Plait!
