Alabama Republicans Want To Allow Private Companies To Employ Prison Labor by idyllin politics

1) Incarcerate as many of us as possible. 2) Employ for virtually nothing. 3) Lay off the rest of us 4) Rinse and repeat.

How do conservatives reconcile the idea of personal liberty and small government with the idea of passing laws for "family values" (banning abortions/gay marriage)? by akaastin politics

[–]idyll 3 points4 points ago

I have asked this question of my 'libertarian' friends and relatives and my conclusion is that they are willing to take the social conservative bullet (they personally don't care at all about people's abortions or sex life) if other policies will favor the preservation their personal wealth.

"The Mormons are the Chosen People. And the time is now for a Mormon leader to usher in the second coming of Christ and install the political Kingdom of God in Washington, D.C.” Romney’s religion is not a sideline, but a crucial element in understanding the man, the mission and the candidacy. by unclefredin politics

[–]idyll 6 points7 points ago

In the 60's, Kennedy had to explain that he didn't owe allegiance to the Pope. Romney is not just a Mormon. He's a Mormon BISHOP. I think he needs to explain the same thing to the country. What allegiance does Romney owe to the old men in Salt Lake City?

Bill Would Require Independent Study of X-Ray Body Scanners by idyllin politics

[–]idyll[S] 0 points1 point ago

TSA has come up with studies in the past that say the machines are just hunky-dory. The key word here, one hopes, is independent.

Routine unnecessary exposure to radiation is NOT a good thing.

Yes, because these machines are about to 'metastasize' into our society at large. It's definitely unconstitutional, but meanwhile, any grounds they can use ..
