Checked to see if this was some sort of awful new novelty account. It isn't.

as I grew up my nautically-inclined father used to tell me, "only assholes and admirals stand in the companionway, and I don't see your stripes."

I just heard Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt for the first time and my mind is blown. Reddit, what's the most powerfully emotional song you know? by Garbear115in AskReddit

Misere by the Cat Empire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hslxotaqxgw On of those songs that cannot be background music, where every lyric and note demands suffocating attention.

I kind of think you were an inconsiderate dick for whipping out your camera and snapping a pic of that poor woman's unfortunately undignified state.

TIL In 2003, Monsanto Sued a Milk Producer For Advertising Hormone-Free Milk by fugoein todayilearned

[–]jackwalsh90 8 points9 points ago

The problem is that artificial hormones aren't actually proven to be harmful, so milk companies are not allowed to say that their hormone-free milk is healthier.

When guys say "I don't like girls in makeup", they usually mean "I like girls in natural makeup". by TheKittenButcherin pics

I'm going to college in South Korea, and it's a bit of a darkly humorous game among the expat students to guess which of the gorgeous girls all around us have had plastic surgery. Half of them have, maybe. Some people claim they can tell but when asked for proof they just rattle off the obvious examples.

This is a cashew. It's a fruit and the nut grows on top of it. by libyaitaliain pics

[–]jackwalsh90 1 point2 points ago

and it's delicious. I tried to tell the people of the Peruvian Amazon that the bit that we ate was the bit they were tossing away, but they thought I was crazy. The fruit is too soft to ship and only grows in the jungle.

So yesterday as I was leaving school with my brother, I was hit by an Excursion van. My car was flipped over and the van ended up on top of us. My brother and I were fine since our seat belts kept us secured. Please, let this be a reminder to always wear your seat belt, no matter what. by BitterBillyin pics

[–]jackwalsh90 1 point2 points ago

I'm 19, just about done with being a real idiot teenager, and I am proud to say that my friends and I never questioned the wisdom of seat belts. On our way to toss some molotov cocktails down by the railroad tracks? No reason not to buckle up.

SOMEBODY FUND THIS by somuchoriginalin gaming

[–]jackwalsh90 0 points1 point ago

I think this idea is clever but probably would not appeal to much of a marketable crowd to justify so much effort. Or make it a mod? I don't know, I don't even play the game. I might be wrong, but it seems like just too much of a random risk.

UPDATE: Sean Hannity just hung up on me! But not before I asked him if he'd kill a 10 year old Hitler! WTF? by theshinepolicyin politics

[–]jackwalsh90 2 points3 points ago

You know, I detest Hannity but it sounds like he had a decent discussion with you and the dramatic hangup came at a reasonable point. You did a good job detailing your views within the restrictions allowed, and to his credit he dealt with you somewhat fairly.

If bionics were to become so advanced that human enhancing technology could be seamlessly integrated with our bodies, would you build a better you and start replacing your limbs and/or organs with machines? by 0x4A6F686Ein AskReddit

[–]jackwalsh90 1 point2 points ago

Relevant: http://www.npr.org/2011/06/13/137029208/heart-with-no-beat-offers-hope-of-new-lease-on-life

The human body uses a heart that beats rhythmically because there wasn't any way found to evolve a smoother pump system. Now that we are routinely replacing biologically hearts with artificial ones, we can implement continuously flowing systems. The artificial version improves on the natural.

Linguistics question: Why is one "in" a movie, and "on" a TV show. by slugboiin AskReddit

[–]jackwalsh90 0 points1 point ago

I would guess that the 'on' comes from the many TV shows that had studio audiences and a sort of stage.
