Terrible mistake...advice needed by kfrenzyin diabetes

[–]jovianmoon 1 point2 points ago

Can't we get her a PEN? I have been doing this a long time and know that I could easily float a single pen to someone without putting my own health in any danger. (Dosages vary so much, I always overestimate in case I lose my job or something happens to my insurance.)

So this is probably not the best attitude, but my philosophy is this.... I can't wait to use the best parking spots and skip all the lines at the amusement parks. I am not rushing things, but hey, the glass is half full!

Your right. I should have waited a day before sending the email. I am just angry.

I do know the context. It was a science teacher talking to her class about what people believe.

My issue isn't that she mentioned creationism, it is that she marginalized science as an extreme view.

I am very angry, but I am working to have a measured response. I think most of my problem lies in the fact I live in the south.

Heartbreak and High Blood Sugar by ItchykooJUin diabetes

[–]jovianmoon 1 point2 points ago

I have found it is very important to find a way to relieve stress. But sometimes, you just have to work through it.

For me, I like to lose my self in some game. (Bioshock, WoW, or something similar....) Coming to terms with your mortality can have a surprising affect on your stress. Realizing what is important and what is not so important.

Heartbreak is a tough one, I would just have to work through it. WoW and Bioshock could never solve that kind of problem. (In fact, it would probably cause it....)

I have a bit of hair and I shave. Not with a razed just the trimmers. Makes the hair short enough not to be pulled, but long enough not to get itchy.

I have heard all the argument for using a pump (even advocated for its use myself), how about going from a pump to shots? by jovianmoonin diabetes

I don't have enough self discipline to write everything down. I could lie and say "Sure, I can do that!" but I haven't in 18 years... I don't think I would start now. But I would like to think that I would.

I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis... welcome to the club... But I think you might be right... after 8 years on the pump, I think I may have made a mistake.

This is how I hope it would go if I switch. It would force me to pay more attention to what I am eating and when. I couldn't imagine taking as many shots as times that I bolus in a day.

I agree, it has never been in the way for "activities" with the wife. Just use the quick release and with the ones I use, put on the blank and it's good to go.

To me, you're probably dealing with your mortality. Realizing that sitting in an office like a slave is a waste of time. You just went through a life changing experience that you can never take back or change. Do what you need to do to be happy.

Has anyone ever though of euthanasia if you were to become to ill due to diabetes. by cyrilioin diabetes

[–]jovianmoon 1 point2 points ago

I think you are spot on. The problem isn't usually the patients but the family making the decision to have "one more month" and end up keeping tortured and angry and sad people alive. Death is dignified and inevitable. No reason to hang around in pain. (and I am even an atheist, so nothing waiting for me on the other side.)

[–]jovianmoon 4 points5 points ago*

I have come to terms with my mortality and I have talked to my family about this. I don't want them to keep me around for the sake of breathing. I don't want to be a burden. I don't want to be remembered as the sick dad. I don't want to be resented for requiring full time care. I want them to let me die, and be remembered as a loving father and husband with an unfortunate disease.

Edit: So yes, I have thought about it.

Diabetic Retinopathy by barringtonlevyin diabetes

[–]jovianmoon 1 point2 points ago

I have also had retinopathy treatment. It wasn't painful for me. My eyesight was sensitive for a day or so, but I had both eyes done over 4 treatments. I have been diabetic since I was 16. I am 35 now and had the treatment about 3 years ago. Just keep getting checked, when they catch it early, it's no big deal.

I did go through what you are going through. At first I kinda freaked out and went through some depression. It's hard. It's probably the first major thing that happened to you that is directly related to diabetes. (Besides all the shots/insulin/low/high blood sugar stuff)

I have a pump and it's great for flexibility, but won't help your control. I would reccomend it if you can get most of it covered by insurance. You can always go back to shots if it isn't working out.

Worst you've ever hurt yourself while trying to take care of yourself? by sofsofin diabetes

It was my wedding anniversary and we got a hotel in downtown Salt Lake and left the kids for a night. At this point, the kids were young and we were still "newly weds" (It was or 4th year and we already had two kids.)

So we turn of the lights and I take out my set from my stomach, I didn't want to have to worry about it and would hook back up after we were finished. About 5 min into out activities, I feel something wet. I turn on the light and there is blood all over. My set had hit a vessel or something and was bleeding very badly after I took it out. It looked like someone had died on the bed. So we wrap up the sheets, threw them in the corner, stoped the bleeding and move to the other bed.

I always wondered what the hotel staff thought the next day after we left.

The mere fact that you show remorse should be enough. Use the experience to help yourself grow as a person, that's all anyone can really do.

They don't want you to die... If you die, they don't make any money. They want you to buy the stuff that costs them the least but can charge you the most for. (You have to watch those profit margins.)

Also, No one really wants to invest in curing.... Diabetics are good business. You will pay whatever they want... you don't have a choice! (Insert maniacal laughter here)

My favorites are Johnston and Murphy boots. Very comfortable and protect feet very will. Also fashionable and easy to break in. I buy a pair about once every 18 months. That doesn't sound like long lasting, but I wear them almost every day. Then I rotate that pair to weekend wear, then the weekend pair to yard work.... Its a nice rotation.

But I do understand, once you find something that works well, when its gone, its very hard to find a replacement.
