Alas, you have to do it in person. These shops don't seem to do an online business.

It took about 6 hours for them to make. I paid about $80 for both pairs.

Not really, but I wasn't expecting they would be. They're going to have to pretty much be conversation pieces, maybe Halloween costumes. Thank you.

My wife (username: frackyou) and I are in Hoi An, Vietnam as a part of our honeymoon, a place famous for clothing and shoemakers. They can copy anything, or at least try. We had an idea to to get Marty's 2015 sneakers made, two pairs, one for each of us, but were met with several telling us "Impossible." Then, with just one day left in town we met a woman who said her father could do it. And I think he did a pretty great job. We were very excited.

Do I need a Japanese encephalitis vaccine for Vietnam? Could I do without it? by peter176in travel

[–]kriegers 0 points1 point ago

I know, really expensive. I think they were telling me it would be between $450 and $600.

Do I need a Japanese encephalitis vaccine for Vietnam? Could I do without it? by peter176in travel

[–]kriegers 1 point2 points ago

How long are you going to be there? I'm going to Vietnam next month and just visited a travel medicine clinic. The doctor there told me I wasn't going to be in Vietnam long enough to necessitate the Japanese encephalitis vaccine (I'm going to be in Southeast Asia for about three weeks and I don't know what the time cutoff would be to require the vaccine.) I took her recommendation and didn't get it. Of course, we could both get Japanese encephalitis and it's incurable and potentially fatal, so, that sucks.

Europe/Asia/South America. Any advice on where to go for a beginner? by janisjoplinsjewelryin travel

Also, while I'm not sure where OP is flying from, in my experience, flights to Europe from the US can be found a bit cheaper than to Asia.

I just finished my album (EP) and a few of the songs are heavily influenced by my battle with Crohn's. Feel free to give it a listen guys. Hope you enjoy/relate to it. by misterquinin CrohnsDisease

[–]kriegers 2 points3 points ago

That was really nice. I don't think I clicked the link for Crohn's inspired music expecting very much. Maybe novelty songs about going to the bathroom. Fortunately that wasn't this. Good job, sir.

Hey Reddit I'm goin to Vegas! Any suggestions on where to go? by slapshotrw91in travel

[–]kriegers 0 points1 point ago

Go downtown (not the strip, Fremont Street). It's kind of disgusting like a lot of Vegas, but it feels more like the Vegas from old movies than most of Vegas you're going to see. Also, the table games are cheaper down there.

Food-wise, lots of good places if you win big at the tables and have a ton of money to spend (Joel Robuchon, José Andrés, Guy Savoy.) Buffets are also an iconic Vegas thing. Some are good. Some aren't. My favorite lately is the one at The Cosmopolitan, also a really nice place to stay.

Also, you can go places and shoot machine guns.

Good Brussel sprout recipe? Any reddit favorites out there? by TurkFebruaryin recipes

David Chang's Momofoku Brussels Sprouts recipe is absolutely fantastic, both this slightly elaborate brussels and fish sauce recipe from his cookbook and this simple recipe with Bacon and Sriracha.

If you've had a resection, how long did it take for your Crohn's to return? by pig_Lizardin CrohnsDisease

[–]kriegers 0 points1 point ago

I was diagnosed 19 years ago (man that makes me feel old) and had the surgery about 10 1/2 years ago. I still take Imuran and Asulfadine daily. I don't feel like the surgery was an immediate miracle cure, but I've steadily felt a little bit better every year. Before surgery I was being admitted to the hospital for various emergency stays about every other year and since the surgery, no hospital stays. This year, a decade after the surgery, with no real diet change other than being in my 30s now and not eating like a college student, I've been feeling very healthy. So no real advice but that it's a process. This body is a strange piece of equipment.

When my wife and I were dating, we were in a parking garage walking to our car and and this giant tricked out SUV speeds past us, nearly driving into both of us. It had these spinning rims, and tinted windows-- real douchey. A very expensive car. My wife has a very inflated sense of justice (and it's one of the things I love about her), particularly in driving situations. When we get to the booth to pay to leave, we find that we are right next to this SUV. She rolls down her window cheerfully and motions for the guy to roll down his window. We see a big 'roided out dude in a wife-beater T-shirt next to his girlfriend. He was a giant bully. Terrifying. Just oozing rage. He asked what she wants and, smiling, she says, "Oh nothing. I just wanted to see what the man with the world's smallest penis looks like. Pretty much how I thought you would look. Slow down in a parking lot, asshole." And then she took her time, paid and drove away.

It wasn't the single ballsiest thing I've ever seen, but it's tied with about 50 other similar things she's done.

*It wasn't the ballsiest thing I've ever done. I hid.

Short/small guy, really difficult to find casual shirts? by thebigbagtheoryin malefashionadvice

[–]kriegers 0 points1 point ago

I'm also short and thin. And yes, the shirt thing is a problem for guys like us. For me, my torso is shorter and legs are longer, so if I tuck any shirt in, my waist looks too high and I'm suddenly dressing like my grandfather. So I'm usually untucking unless I'm wearing a jacket or sweater. Apart from some decent fitting shirts at the places already mentioned, I like to go vintage. Men were smaller and thinner a generation or two ago and I have a lot of success fitting into shirts from the sixties (or seventies if they don't look too seventies.)

Every word to this commercial jingle just popped in my head. I imagine that when I first heard this song, my five year old mind began to understand the concept of "phoning it in." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC3AgzQk6yA
