TIL: Senator Rand Paul is fighting to keep 2C-x psychedelics from becoming Schedule 1. by HakXin Drugs

[–]pahncrd 0 points1 point ago

Prohibition is a civil war that is used as justification to oppress all of the right (wrong) people. People that use psychedelics are likely to be open-minded and therefore probably progressive.

The second part is just my opinion, but the first part is pretty obvious.

Everyone is raging about the parking

I think you might be skewing slightly hyperbolic on that claim. I'm certainly not raging at the parking. Maybe a little about the yelling, but this is pretty low on my current list of rage-ables, even if completely unjustified.

In any case, here is a cute little fancy rat. <:3 - )~~~

EDIT: Look downvoters, there might be some worked up people near the bottom, but people are pretty calm up here. <:3 - )~~~

Yes, it must be the great and powerful hivemind that came and downvoted you a handful of times.

That said, you received no downvotes from me. Though I do think censoring timid sexuality and allowing extreme violence is abhorrent and is a symptom of a larger problem within our culture in the USA.

Maybe people should be slightly more skeptical before assuming the existence of the paranormal.

The very first thing I would have done (after freaking the fuck out at the possibility) would be to have my image verified independently before making any personal claims about it. Seriously, if I am going to hit the talk shows about my image, I am damned well going to be sure about it.

I subscribe to this subreddit because I find the paranormal fascinating, and I hope to find some compelling stories, pictures and experiences.

If it is a part of verifiable reality it is normal science and not paranormal.

If something paranormal is observed and verified, it becomes science.

Yes everything is always 100% Obama's fault since he can override everyone else immediately, whether in government or the private sector, at will and without crippling reprisal, and then do exactly what you want, but he simply chooses not to in order to be a dick.

I can't wait for the GOP to get in there and make things better.

Indeed, if those conditions could be guaranteed, I would be on board, as an alternative to prison.

Our authorities have a very poor track record of self-limitation, and our congress has a poor track record of legislating mandatory sanity along with authoritarian policies.

In America, we're so good at producing food that it's so plentiful that it's killing us via obesity.

It's not so much the amount of food, but rather the type of food as well. They eat almost as many calories per day as we do in Belgium (and other countries) and yet our obesity rate is three times what theirs is. If it was a simple question of putting down the fork, we wouldn't be so close in caloric intake with other countries that have obesity rates that are much much lower.

You have a valid point, and to be honest, you are absolutely correct.

There is something about it that feels different and I can't quite put my finger on it. There is something about authoritarian correction of sexual deviance through mandatory hormone therapy that makes me nervous.

Hmm, I empathize with your sentiment, but I wonder if authoritarians can really be trusted with power to directly alter peoples' body chemistry at will.

No authoritarian power (that I can think of) that we have ever granted our society has stayed strictly applied with the original intent alone. Look at DUI checkpoints as a quick and simple example. We granted them because drunk driving is so dangerous, but in the end, they are poor at catching drunk drivers, but great at catching prohibition and bureaucratic offenders. Is that what we agreed to?

I just think it is something that is worth putting a lot of thought into before making any decisions. Is it okay to change the body chemistry of a citizen in order to make/help them fit in with society? That's the question we are really asking.

Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack (teenager's mother finds him locked inside the nurse's office, unconscious on the floor.) by Sugar_Skullin politics

Agreed, as a medical professional it's her responsibility to act in her patient's best interest, not her employer's. If she can't do that, she shouldn't be a nurse.

Actually, it isn't too bad. Colorado has a very strong libertarian (I'm progressive and not libertarian) presence and usually comes down on the side of freedom.

Yeah, VD is something that can be avoided too, and yet we have a shot for it and that's okay.

You may argue that diet and exercise won't work for everyone precisely because of this compliance-with-treatment problem.

Right, as a treatment it is a statistical failure. Some people are skinny no matter what they do, and it would be wonderful if it could be that way for everyone. Perhaps certain people would lose their ability to act and feel superior, but I am sure they can find something else.
