Did you post those Valve pics to r/pics or /gaming not too long ago? I swear they look super-familiar (and not in the "because they're pictures of Valve" way). Anyways, keep up the good work!

Bill Murray hosts a tour of the set of Moonrise Kingdom - filmed here in Newport by platziein Newport

I love when they surprise him by taking away his empty glass and handing him a new one.

If only I was able to get down to El Perro Salado last summer when he was there a few nights. Drinking with Bill Murray must be a downright delight.

I'm incredibly embarrassed to say that when I read the headline I first thought "Wow, they held a meeting only for players that performing well? That's odd."

Don't worry, I'll show myself out.

If anyone wasn't aware yet - the new Wes Anderson movie coming out soon, "Moonrise Kingdom", was partially filmed in Newport last summer.

This video is of Bill Murray talking about it on set, being awesome, and giving a Newport shout-out at the end.

Drive is on Netflix by Wraith12in netflix

[–]platzie 8 points9 points ago

Don't go into watching Drive thinking that it will be like Fast and the Furious - you'll be disappointed and hate it. I went in not knowing what it was about and found it to be one of the best movies I'd seen in years.

The pacing isn't fast and there are stretches where there isn't much talking - to me that's what made the movie work but for other people they didn't like it.

So...give it a shot, you have nothing to lose since it's on streaming.

Sir, I am still at this wedding and downright shitfaced so I will answer to the best of my fine motor skills:

  • The bride used to be my roommate (1 out of 4 roommates)

  • She knows our love of the "video games"

  • The delightful Asian lady and are I are a couple and she's a delight!

...and Asian.

  • We didn't expect this card. It was a nice treat.

  • Penis.

When did you start surfing? by dumbassthenesin surfing

[–]platzie 1 point2 points ago

Last year - 30 y/o.

A couple years ago I moved to Newport, RI which has a few different breaks but never considered surfing until I went to Hawaii a year ago. I thought why not try it when I get back home as RI is one of the few places in southern New England where you can surf. My buddy gave me his old 6'5" board and I went out almost every single day last summer. It was frustrating to say the least trying to learn on that board - but by the Fall I was getting the hang of it. By Winter I felt comfortable. And now I feel good (comparatively - for someone who's only been surfing for a year).

The DeLorean of game developers? In Rhode Island? 38 Studios "Might Cost Taxpayers $112 Million" by puck2in RhodeIsland

[–]platzie 1 point2 points ago

Agreed that the origin of this issue is with RI giving him money to move here - that was a ridiculous and not well thought out move.

Although Shilling shouldn't be faulted for wanting to increase his personal wealth, it doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite for taking taxpayer-backed money from the government to run his company while he strongly and publicly backs a political ideology that calls for less government spending and reduced burden on taxpayers.

If RI offered him tax credits for moving his company here and he raised the money himself from the private sector I would be ok with it and it would be right in line with what he preaches. What he did though was hypocritical and discredits him in my eyes. True the fault still lies with the RI politicians for agreeing to this shit deal ... but from here on out whenever Shilling goes on one of his rants about government waste and tax burdens he should drink a large frothy cup of shut the fuck up.

The DeLorean of game developers? In Rhode Island? 38 Studios "Might Cost Taxpayers $112 Million" by puck2in RhodeIsland

[–]platzie 3 points4 points ago

Shilling's hypocrisy is ridiculous. He very vocally paints himself as a conservative then leaves MA when they (wisely) don't give him taxpayer money for his company, then when he can't pay back RI he (yesterday) asked the state to give him more money.

I read that he's been saying he personally invested $30m in the company but it was found that he actually invested about $2m and he paid himself back already with the money from the state.

I hate that I both want this company to succeed (for the taxpayers) and fail (for Schilling).

Why are grocery stores not overrun with pests? by minikitesin answers

My first job while in high school was working in the produce section of a supermarket and once while putting out bananas I found a HUGE but thankfully dead spider in one of the boxes.

I vaguely remember that a co-worker might have found one that was alive.

New OT student here, with a question... by zysecuhin OccupationalTherapy

[–]platzie 4 points5 points ago

I agree with OccTher and will add the following (keep in mind that every program is different so really it's best to find out from other OT students or professors at your school):

  • If you take a core A&P class (ie: A&P with other health science majors, not OT specific) it's essentially going to be a much more in-depth Biology class. OccuTher is spot on that any A&P book will give you a good head start for the lecture component.

  • If it has a lab component you will need to identify bones and muscles (you will need to know this anyways for your OT anatomy). I recommend starting to memorize the bones now as well as the features of them. This means not just knowing what a humerus looks like, but also being able to identify the different features of the humerus like the greater tubercle, lesser tubercle, trochlea, etc. These are areas where the bones articulate with each other or where muscles originate/insert and you may be tested on those.

  • Start memorizing muscles as well. You probably don't need to go too far in-depth with memorizing them (ie: all the individual hand muscles), just the major ones.

This should be enough to get you through your prerequisite AP classes. Once you get into OT classes and take gross anatomy you'll need to know the muscles more in-depth. Your OT-specific A&P classes may also have you memorize the muscle origin, insertions, and what nerve innervates them.

If you have a smartphone I highly recommend using a flashcard app. I personally use Study Blue (http://www.studyblue.com) - it's free and you can create/review cards either on your phone or on your computer. You can also add pictures to the flashcards so it's great for learning the bones. Also, you can search/use other people's cards - I would bet that someone already has cards made for bones/muscles.

It may seem like a lot but remember that this is stuff that you'll learn over weeks/months/years. So while I do think it's a great idea to start learning your bones/muscles early, don't go mad trying to memorize them all right away :)

Just took my last final exam of my life. What beer would you drink to celebrate this occasion? by d_pugin beer

[–]platzie 3 points4 points ago

I came in here to make some comment about how you never know if it'll be your -last- final as I thought the same thing 10 years ago when getting my undergrad and now I'm back in school.

...then you listed your major. Congratulations on taking your last final!

And my 2 cents: get a bottle of Old Stock Cellar Reserve. Drink it at room temp. Drink it slow. Feel like a baller.

True that it doesn't seem to be a consequence of "surfing too much" but this guy was in the Army so I would say he was probably getting a good amount of physical activity. Seems like a fluke case, interesting though.
