Microsoft, please support (at least a tiny bit of) C99 by VilleHopfieldin programming

The FTC settlement included a disclosure provision where Intel must:[24]: “ ...publish clearly that its compiler discriminates against non-Intel processors (such as AMD's designs), not fully utilizing their features and producing inferior code. ”

It's great that you think that it never happened but something that you think they've never down has caused them legal trouble.

What do I need to do to get into Cryptography, or is it even right for me? by MathQuestionsin math

[–]pragmatist 1 point2 points ago

I think the only reason to go to grad school directly after undergrad is if you intend on becoming a professor. If you want to go into industry eventually, go find the employ of a company that will bankroll your education.

Cryptography is a rich area. I really enjoyed dynamic systems/chaos type stuff in school. Here's a pretty cool cipher based on that area:

rfc4503.

You really could work with a bunch of cool ideas in the area, but you could also end up dealing with a lot of tedium. Good luck.

What would be a good double major with applied mathematics? by chopstickgalorein math

[–]pragmatist 1 point2 points ago

I was going to say this but just to emphasize:

Reading textbooks is of little worth after a certain level. Focus on math at first and then when you get an opportunity to do (hopefully undergrad) research you can look for something in the bio space.

Don't take even roots of negative numbers :)

It's more helpful if you post your equations or at least give a bit more detail.

It's not the default in openSUSE. Distros tend to offer people options (often hot-switchable from a gui as far as sound goes). Please don't act like every major distro is some sort of PulsePimp.

xkcd is surely correct that idioms and cliches go out of style (or come to mean something completely different). However, he neglects the finding that irregular verbs tend to become regular overtime. Qualitatively, it will be hard to see a shift in English over the next 400 years that has occurred over the previous 400.
