Vegetarian, not vegan, but I don't think I've ever seen such a misleading ad campaign before by retrofirein vegan

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

Aren't most of these just vitamins to make it fortified? That's like picking on multivitamins for having too many ingredients. Lame argument.

Huge/healthy salads at lunch are leaving me with headaches 2 hours later. by plasticslugin nutrition

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

Why do you think it's the salads? Are you sure there's nothing else these headaches could be attributed to (sleep changes, hormones, etc)?

Water Kefir? by biclynnin raw

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

I make water kefir regularly, and while I wouldn't really say that it's been miraculous for my health, I do think it helps my digestion when I drink it.

Riddle me this /r/vegan, why are so many vegan recipes concerned with meat substitutes? by bobaconstrictorin vegan

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

It becomes kind of a cultural thing if you've been raised with it for a long time. You want the food you're used to, without the animal suffering. It's not good to overdo soy and gluten, but an occasional soy chicken cutlet won't kill you. Besides, have you tasted soyrizo? Delicious.

Is it possible to use beach sand as a soil amendment? by pumpkinbutterin gardening

[–]pumpkinbutter[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the advice! I'd imagine there are some salt-tolerant plants native to this area, it's something to look into.

Is it possible to use beach sand as a soil amendment? by pumpkinbutterin gardening

[–]pumpkinbutter[S] 0 points1 point ago

Hmmm, I'm not sure how coarse I should look for though...I'd guess that most of what's on the beaches here is fine sand, but I'm not really sure what the ideal texture would be. As for taking too much, I just wanted a few cups worth to experiment with a small batch.

I don't know if there's anything like that around here, I was thinking a big beach would be better anyways, because I think a little sand would be missed less from the huge beaches by my house.

Vegan cutting boards by Mizarsexin vegan

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

I got my wooden cutting board for around $1 at a yard sale, and I like it. Try to wash it decently often though, and if I can't do that, I at least try to keep it completely dry.

home test: Hey ants! which do you like better? Margarine or butter? by paulwheatonin food2

[–]pumpkinbutter 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't praise butter...it's less processed than margarine, but dairy has its own set of health problems that shouldn't be ignored.

A winter indoors has been rather rough on this aloe. Is it too late? by TyIzaeLin gardening

[–]pumpkinbutter 2 points3 points ago

It looks like the only surviving part of the plant is the big leaves, which are barely hanging on...if you can't get it to produce new leaves, it's a goner :( has it been overwatered? Aloe likes to be very dry in the winter...

Fascinating...is it really that efficient though? Seems labor intensive.

3.5 years sans meat and lately I've been thinking of jumping ship. Advise me. by Xannonin Vegetarianism

[–]pumpkinbutter 2 points3 points ago

One thing that you might want to look at is whether or not you're getting all the nutrients you need. I sometimes have cravings when my body is low in something it needs, and maybe that's contributing to yours. Maybe you've already checked on this, but if not, you might want to take a look at this page with some basic info on vegetarian nutrition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian_nutrition
